Victorian Leeds Constabulary Police Mallaca Sword Stick With Sterling Silver Hall Marked Collar Presented By Officers Of The B Division To Newly Promoted Sgt John Frankham 24th April 1886 With Stag Antler Handle & Scabbard. Sn 12742 - 12742
This is an attractive Victorian presentation Sword Stick. The Curved stag antler handle has a large 1 ½” length silver hallmarked collar which is beautifully hand engraved ‘Leeds Constabulary presented by Officers of the ‘B’ Division To P.C. John Frankham as a token of esteem on being promoted to Sergeant 24th April 1886’. The silver hallmark is indistinct (all illustrated). It has a flat diamond shaped 26” blade and measures 32 ¾” overall length (35 ¼” in its scabbard). The blade has natural aged staining consistent with age. The blade tapers to a pin sharp point. Victorian Customs Officer's carried sword sticks not only for self defence against smugglers but also to rummage & test bales and other consignments for hidden contraband. This is a very good, original, Victorian era Customs Officer's sword stick. Made of briar, it is 36 ¾” overall in its scabbard. The heavy duty square blade is 29 ½” in length tapering to a sharp point. The blade is undamaged with just staining consistent with age and is stamped by the prestigious blade maker 'Mole, Birm' (Birmingham). The handle has a brass ferrule. A ‘Namban’ Style Iron Tsuba for a ‘Tanto’ (Dagger). ED 2699. - ED 2699
Namban means foreigner in Japanese. This Tsuba is made from very hard iron. These were made in various locations from the 16th & 17th Centuries. Nagasaki, Kyoto and Hizen. They were also made in trading enclaves off the coast of China in the 17th Century. This Tsuba looks to be late ‘Edo’ 1780 into the 19th Century. With ‘Tsukashi ‘piercings of dragons and ‘Tama’. A ‘Tanto Dagger’ Tsuba (A tsuba is a sword guard and part of a sword mounting. It is mounted between the sword's blade and grip to protect the user's hands) made from iron depicting a boatman and wild geese or ducks. It has a lovely wet look to the iron with good patination. A Katana Tsuba (A tsuba is a sword guard and part of a sword mounting. It is mounted between the sword's blade and grip to protect the user's hands) in iron with a lovely dark patina and colour with a slightly hammered and rounded rim. The tsuba depicts a bamboo grove in the rain with brass inlays. It has been mounted on a sword but is in excellent condition. **BLADE NUMBERED ON SIDE**WW2 Japanese NCO's Type 95 Katana By The Lijima Swords Factory With Kokura Arsenal Mark, Original Leather Cord With Barrel Knot And Scabbard With Part Of Its Original leather Field Combat Cover. Sn 20332 - 20332
This is an original WW2 Japanese NCO's Katana With cord, barrel knot and scabbard With partial field combat cover. The sword has the typical brown painted aluminium cast handle with lanyard ring and fully functioning scabbard retaining clip. The handle retains traces of its original colour. Its fullered, 27 ¼” blade is clean and has storage grease. The side of the blade is crisply stamped '17535' and with inspection mark. The hilt is stamped with Kokura (4 combined cannonballs) Arsenal mark and the Lijima Swords Factory roundel with crossed swords mark and inspection mark (see page 185 of Swords Of Imperial Japan by Dawson). The lanyard ring is fitted with original leather cord with barrel knot in good condition with all leather and stitching intact. It is complete with its original scabbard which has a single hanging ring. The throat of the scabbard is stamped with number ‘105902’. The scabbard has part of its original brown leather field combat cover. The cover’s lower lection is absent as its original cord which would lace the throat. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 20332
