1952 – 1974 Liverpool Mounted Police Sergeants & Constables Spike Topped Dress Helmet With QE II Plate, Horse Hair Plume, Liner and Chin Strap As Issued To Mounted Officers Escorting Grand National Winners At Aintree Racecourse. Sn 17630 - 17630 The Liverpool Mounted Police were formed in 1886. The Liverpool Police Force was re-named Merseyside in 1974. Liverpool Mounted Police Section were responsible for providing Mounted Officer’s at prestigious events including the iconic annual Grand National Race at the Famous English Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool where every year Liverpool Mounted Police in full dress uniform escort the winning horse and jockey from the track to the Winner’s enclosure. This is an excellent, Pre 1974 Mounted Police Sergeants and Constable’s spike topped dress helmet. The blue cloth covering of the helmet is undamaged. It has chrome finish ornate metal cross piece, ornately decorated spine, headband spike with rose boss top and side rose bosses supporting a leather backed link chin chain. The front of the helmet bears the Queen Elizabeth II (post 1952) Liverpool Police helmet plate. The helmet has its original horse hair plume and leather lining which has some service wear.
