Imperial German 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer’s Sword By Gebr Weyersberg Solingen With Etched & Blued Blade & Scabbard Both With Matching German Regiment Marks ‘119.R.5.2’(Infantry Regiment Nr 119 Battalion Nr 5 Weapon Number 2). Sn 21045 - 21045 This is an Imperial German version of the British 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword with folding clamshell guard (see page 160 of World Swords by Withers where a British variant is illustrated). Our example has the later pattern 1796 brass shell guard, one side which folds . It has the correct knuckle bow and ornate urn shaped pommel. The solid polished bone grip is excellent. The hilt has a brass bar guard and quillon finial. The folding guard is stamped with Imperial German form Regiment marks ‘119.R.5.2’(Infantry Regiment Nr 119 Battalion Nr 5 Weapon Number 2), see page 29 of German Small Arms Markings by Gotz & Bryans where similar Regiment marks are illustrated). It has a 32” long fullered blade (39” overall). The blade has traces of original gilt, etching and blueing. One side of the blade is signed by the German maker ‘Gebr Weyersberg Solingen’. The reverse has an Imperial inspection mark. Its leather scabbard has brass throat mount with frog bar and brass chape. The throat mount has matching Regiment marks. The price includes UK delivery. Imperial German 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer’s Sword By E&H Neuhaus Solingen With Scabbard Both With Matching German Regiment Marks ‘122.R.R.1’(Rekrutendepot /Recruiting Depot Regiment Nr 122 Weapon Number 1). Sn 21044 - 21044 This is an Imperial German version of the British 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword with clamshell guard (see page 160 of World Swords by Withers where a British variant is illustrated). Early 19th Century French Forestry Deer / Boar Hunting Sidearm with Ornate Carved Bone Stylised Eagle’s Head Hilt & Scabbard. Sn 18115:6 - 18115:6 This is an original French form Forestry Hunting Dagger / Sidearm. These substantial weapons were carried when hunting large game such as Deer or Boar for self-defence and to deliver the 'death blow' to the hunted prey. This example has an ornately carved bone stylised Eagle’s head form hilt. The bone has a repair to the handle performed at some point in its life. The repair is stable and secure. It has an ornate re-curving brass cross guard with Eagle’s head finials. Its 22” heavy single edged blade with fullers has staining and areas of old stable areas of pitting consistent with age. It measures 28” overall. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks. The weapon is complete with its brown leather scabbard with rear seam, brass throat mount with tear drop locket and long chape with ball end . British WD 1893 Dated 1856 Pattern Mole & Sons Birmingham Pioneer’s Sawback Short Sword Sidearm With Brass Hilt Regiment Marked ‘M/6 MAN1’ To The 6th Manchester Militia Weapon Number 1 & Scabbard. Sn 17683 - 17683 This is an excellent 1856 Pattern British Pioneers Sawback Short Sword Sidearm. (see page 173 of Robson's Swords of the British Army). It has a broad 22 ½” blade with deeply cut sawback (27 ½” overall). The blade has just light staining consistent with age. One side of the blade has a crisp etched panel of the manufacturer Rob(ert) Mole & Sons Birmingham. The reverse has crisp British WD ordnance inspection marks and faint ‘Mole Birm’ mark. It has a heavy ribbed Brass handle with full knuckle bow, slotted for lanyard. The back of the rolled cross guard is crisply Regiment marked ‘M/6 MAN1’ To The 6th Manchester Militia Weapon Number 1 & dated ’3 (March)1893’ . The sidearm is complete with original leather scabbard with brass mounts. The leather of the scabbard is clean and intact. Model 1860 Imperial Prussian Infantry Brass Handled Short Sword Sidearm & Scabbard Both With Regiment Marks. ED 2164. - ED 2164 This is an excellent, original, Model 1860 Imperial Prussian Infantry short sword side arm (see page 196 of World Swords by Withers). It has a heavy 17 ¼” curved single edged steel blade and measures 22 ¾” overall. There are no visible manufacturer marks on the blade but the back of the blade has a small indistinct inspection mark (illustrated). It has a rugged brass handle with correct grooved panel on one side to assist grip. The hilt incorporates a cast birds head pommel and returning curve cross guard with rounded ends. The cross guard is Regiment marked ‘7.R.H.65’. The Sword is complete with correct, original leather scabbard with brass throat mount which has a fixed frog bar and brass chape with ball end *stitching loose at the rear/movement of brasswork*. The throat mount is Regiment marked ‘2.R.A.5.27’. Both the throat mount and chape have small Imperial inspection marks. All leather & stitching of the scabbard are intact. **LARGE**ORNATELY DECORATED**Victorian Era North West Frontier Afghan/ Pashtun Tribe Sword Size Khyber Knife. Sn 21040 - 21040 The Pashtun tribes living around the Khyber Pass traditionally use this type of Khyber knife. The Khyber Pass is the most important mountain pass in the Hindu Kush. Because it has played a strategic role in military and trade for over 2,000 years, the Khyber knife is found throughout Afghanistan, Pakistan and Northern India. The knives come in a range of different sizes, blade lengths of over 20" are not unusual. This is an excellent original example made in the Victorian Era (see page 354 of A Glossary Of The Construction Decoration & Use Of Arms & Armour by Stone where similar Khyber knives to ours but not as ornately decorated are illustrated). It has a heavy 21" single edged T section blade (25” overall). The 2” wide blade narrows to a pin sharp point. The blade has just light staining consistent with age but no rust. Both sides of the blade and the spine have deep cut hand tooled decoration. The blade is razor sharp. It has a brass grip with 2 section tropical hardwood and polished horn grooved scales secured by brass pins with round heads. The scales are undamaged & secured. **Pre War Civilian Blade Mounted For WW2** Japanese Officer's Type 98 Shin Gunto Sword Shop Factory Katana Sword With Rare Edo Period Iron Tsuba, Leather Field Service Combat Wrapped Scabbard & Expert Assessment. Sn 20904 - 20904 An original Japanese Officer's Sword. The sword has been assessed by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg. A copy of his hand written notes and illustrations accompany the sword. In extracts from his notes he states “A Type 98 pattern shin gunto army officer’s sword with unsigned medium quality Sowa to blade made in a sword shop factory. Looks oil tempered at lower heat producing slightly fuzzy temperline hamon with nioi crystal edge. A wide blade with quite crude tang possibly pre war (no arsenal marks). Possibly stored in shira saya resting mounts (2 holes) before mounting for war. Quality silver foil habaki. Saya wood covered with leather field service wrap (needs small repair to tear at top). Tsuka is plain brass, han dachi mounts not gunto pattern with civilian menuki, wrapped in brown military ito, good condition. Never had a locking catch. Has a brass sarute loop (wartime add on). Tsuba is antique Namban (foreign style) cast iron chiselled, polished on one side, traces of gold highlights. (Bowl shaped tsuba probably made in the Chinese enclave at Nagasaki in Japan. Design of sacred fungus & foliage with raised Chinese style seppa dai. Edo Period 17th / 18th century. Quite a rare tsuba. A pre war civilian sword mounted later for war service in good carried & used condition. An interesting addition to a collection”. In his illustrations Bill describes the cutting edge as 64 cm and total length 81.5 cm. He also describes and illustrates other blade measurements and characteristics (illustrated in image 2). WW2 1943 Japanese Officer's Type 98 Shin Gunto Arsenal Katana Sword With Dated & Smith Signed Tang ‘Bishu (province) Ju (living in) Masa Hide (art name) Saku (made this)’, Scabbard & Expert Assessment. Sn 20902 - 20902 An original WW2 dated Japanese Officer's Sword with signed tang. The sword has been assessed by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg. A copy of his hand written notes and illustrations accompany the sword. In extracts from his notes he states “A Type 98 shin gunto army officer’s sword dated 1943, with no arsenal stamps. Looks like an oil tempered showa to which has undergone the Yaki Ire process producing a nioi edge to hamon after heating and quenching in oil. Looks medium quality. It is signed by its maker ‘Bishu (province) Ju (living in) Masa Hide (art name) Saku (made this)’. There are 3 men working in the war time period 1939-45 using this name but none with Bishu place of residence. Needs more research to identify which man. Bright condition showing through surface scratches & staining. Needs a polish. Saya scabbard is expensive for its time, aluminium (light weight but reacts with paint finish & throws it off over time. Paint patchy in places). Tsuba gunto pattern with mosy of gilt gone marked with unknown inspector’s mark (illustrated in image 2). Tsuka good gunto pattern all complete with working safety catch & cord for sarute loop. Brown ito wrap dirty. Bronze finish still on metal fittings, some gilt left on menuki. Worthy of restoration and research. Nice example of its type”. In his illustrations Bill translates the tang signature and 1943 date. He describes the cutting edge as 64.5 cm and total length 86 cm.
