INERT DEACTIVATED. WW2, 1944 Dated, Mills No 36M MK1, Hand Grenade. - O 2107 INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an excellent, WW2, 1944 dated Mills No.36M MK 1, hand grenade. The 36M refers to the pattern of Grenade 36 M originally 'Mesopotania' and the fact they were waterproofed. The cast iron body retains some of its original brown varnished finish with traces of the red (high explosive) and green (amatol) filling marks. The grenade has the makers marks 14 REL (Revo Electric Company, Birmingham) cast into the front. The cast iron base plug is marked NP (National Pump Engineering Works) MK 1 44 (1944 date) The base plug is screwed for a rifle grenade base plate. The grenade is fitted with an alloy filling plug.
