INERT. 100 Cartridge Box Of F. Joyce 20 Bore Centre Fire Primed Cartridge Cases (Contents 98). Sn 20781 - 20781 INERT. Frederick Joyce established a percussion cap factory in London in 1820. The factory was a success and a larger factory was built at Waltham Abbey, Essex in 1842. Around the 1860s, Joyce then started making breech loading cartridges. In 1908, the company was bought by Nobel Explosives Limited. In 1910, the factory and Joyce name were purchased by Eley. This is a 100 round cardboard box containing 98 centre fire, 20 bore, primed orange coloured cardboard cartridge cases with brass heads. The side of the cartridges have printed in black on them IMPROVED GAS-TIGHT CARTRIDGE CHARGED WITH EC (in a diamond) (EC = EC Powder Company) SPORTING POWDER). The cartridge cases are headstamped JOYCE. LONDON No 20 (20 bore). The cartridge cases are fitted with a 2 piece brass and copper primer assembly. The box measures 7 inches square and 2 5/8 inches in height. The box carries the F. Joyce & Co. Ld. trade label on the top and side which is in good condition.
