DEACTIVATED INERT. Rare Boys .55 (14x99B) Mark 1 1939 Dated Inspection Anti-Tank Rifle Round. - O 1803
DEACTIVATED INERT. This round was developed by a Captain H C Boys, a designer at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield resulting in the .55 Boys anti-tank rifle being adopted in 1937. Although the round was adequate against light tanks in the early part of the war, the Boys was ineffective against heavier armour and was phased out in favour of the PIAT mid-war. The Boys anti-tank rifle was a bolt action rifle fed from a five-shot magazine, loaded by means of a 5 round stripper clip. The nickel plated brass cartridge cased round and is headstamped R crowfoot L 39 UI (Royal Laboratories, Dated 1939. Inspection round mark 1). The copper jacketed bullet is held by 3 stab crimps at the case mouth. The round has the correct blind primer pocket. DEACTIVATED INERT. WW2 British Unfired 15mm BESA (15x104) Mark 1 Armour Piercing Tank Machine Gun DRILL Round. - O 1801
DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a WW2 British unfired 15mm BESA machine gun drill round used in 15mm tank machine gun. The BESA round was approved for service in June 1940 and was fitted to the Light Tank Mk VIC and the Humber Armoured Car Marks I – III. The bullet is boat tailed with a gilding metal envelope with a lead/antimony tip filler and hard steel core. It has two narrow driving bands formed in the envelope. Bullet weight was 1160 grains and the propellant charge was 370 grains of nitro-cellulose powder. The gun was developed from the Czechoslovak ZB vz 60 air-cooled machine gun which was fed by 25-round belts. This drill round consists of a nickel plated brass cartridge case with three, quarter inch diameter holes drilled diagonally through the case signifying a drill round. The primer annulus also retains its red paint signifying a drill round. The round is headatamped K40 (Kynoch 1940) 15MM WZ (armour piercing with smokeless powder). The round has a crimped in copper jacketed bullet which has two driving bands, the top one which is visible at the case mouth. INERT DEACTIVATED. These are 3 unfired Oerlikon KDC (35x228) practice rounds in as found condition. The guns are currently in use as towed guns, self-propelled AA guns, mounted on armoured vehicles and personnel carriers, and are placed on naval vessels usually in a twin mount and often radar controlled. These practice rounds have green lacquered steel cases. The first is a British Marco made round headstamped BM (British Marco) 85 (1985 date) 195 (batch number). The second is headstamped 35x228 DM 1001 LOS EM -10-45-X. The third is headstamped BM (British Marco) 87 (1987 date) 103 (batch number). And is fitted with a dummy head. The other projectiles consist of a steel projectile with an iron driving band and an alloy plug representing the fuse. The blue projectile is stencilled in white round the circumference WS 210 26 2.76. All of three rounds are included in the sale. The condition is as found and as per the photographs. INERT DEACTIVATED. The first British drill round formally approved for the Browning M2 .50 calibre machine gun and was designated ‘Cartridge S.A. Drill .50 inch Browning Mark I’ in 1950. Previous to this, the drill rounds were of American manufacture. The cartridge case was a standard British made .50 Browning with a blind primer pocket. The brass cartridge case was either tinned or chromed overall and had no cap, anvil or fire holes. The case had three vertical flutes painted red, as was the cap chamber. The bullet had gilding metal envelopes and rested on a wood distance piece. The nickel plated brass cartridge cases are headstamped K62 .50 Mk1 and the three flutes in the side of the cartridge and primer pocket retain their original red painted finish signifying a drill round. The cartridges come in their original cardboard box with a card segmentor separating the cartridges inside. The box has a grey printed label on round it and has printed in black 10 .50 BROWNING S.A. DRILL Mk CARTRIDGES. Also there is Manufactured at the Kynoch Factories of Imperial Metal Industries (Kynoch) Limited Witton Birmingham England. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a clip of 5 Soviet 14.5mm (14.5 x 114) dummy rounds for the Protivotankovoe Ruzh’yo Simonova Obrazets1941 g (PTRS) anti-tank rifle use introduced in 1941. The gun was a gas operated semi-automatic weapon which was fed with a 5 round clip which was stacked in a double row en-bloc similar to the American M1 Garrand clip. At the time of its introduction into service, the gun had good armour penetration, 40mm at 100 yards which was good for penetrating the top armour of the early panzers form roof top levels. The nickel plated dummy rounds are made of brass cartridge cases with 2 cross drilled holes in the sides and a crimped in jacketed bullet. The rounds are headstamped 25 over 71and have a struck primer. The steel spring steel 5 round clip has various stamps to the bottom including 39 2 and other small stamps. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a rare 1940 dated WW2 German 20mm Flak 38 Nickel plated steel dummy round resembling the Armour Piercing round for the Soluthern 20mm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun. This gun was used singularly or in the Quad Vierling 38 mount as an anti-aircraft weapon. This drill nickel plated round is turned out of solid steel and is headstamped H40(1940 date) a monogram in a circle and a feint waffenampt. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a link of three Experimental British Radway Green made DUMMY 30mm Aden (30x86B) rounds. The German Mauser company was developing the Mk 213 aircraft revolving canon near the end of the WW2. The MK213 was developed was developed in 2 calibres, one in 30mm utilising the 30 x 85B cartridge in 20mm utilising the 20 x 135 cartridge case. After WW2, the gun was developed by the British calling it the ADEN (Armament Development, Enfield) cannon. Two rounds were developed in 20mm and 30mm. All the rounds had the same overall length. The 30mm rounds were developed with two case lengths, one with a 86mm belted case called the Low Velocity with was a shorter case and a bigger projectile. The other had a 110mm belted case and this was called the High Velocity round with a longer cartridge case and a shorter projectile which had a higher velocity. As a result of the trials, the longer cased high velocity round was adopted. This gun was fitted to various aircraft including the Hawker Hunter, English Electric Lightning and the Harrier. This is a link of three British ADEN LOW velocity drill rounds. The brass cartridge cases are headstamped in the belt.J.30MM. RG.52 (Radway Green manufactured in 1952) and DUMMY on the base. The rounds have drilled empty primer pockets. The rounds each have a pressed steel link, two are marked on the back M.K.1 D.S. The other link is stamped E T FRENCH MANCHESTER. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a British Hispano-Suiza (20x110) HS 404 copper and nickel plated steel base weighted dummy round. The British 20mm Hispano-Suiza (20x110) HS 404 aircraft cannon which first entered service in 1941. The gun was fitted to a variety of British aircraft including the Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Westland Whirlwind and Bristol Beaufighter and Hawker Typhoon as standard equipment or an upgrade of the Browning .303 machine gun. The round was later used in the De Havilland Vampire and Gloster Meteor fighter aircraft after Worls War 2. This is a copper bodied (anti-magnetic) dummy round with a steel base that has been nickel plated. The round is headstamped 20MM 50 (1950 date) JES. This is an early British, Boer War Era 37mm (37 x 94R) Pom Pom nose fused HE (High Explosive) Factory presentation round. the cartridge case is engraved on the side VICKERS MAXIM POM POM and has traces of silver plating at the bottom and on the base. The cartridge case has no headstamp and the primer has been struck. The round is fitted with a nose fuse high explosive projectile with two copper driving bands and a brass screw in nose fuse which are both unmarked. Vickers gave these presentations round out as part of their factory advertising and are seldom encountered. The projectile is held in the case by two rings of cannelures and consists of a steel projectile with an iron driving band and an alloy plug representing the fuse. The projectile retains some of its original black painted finish.
