INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an unfired high explosive round for the German 6 cm Schnelllade-Boots-Kanone L/21 in Landungslafette C/1900 which was a 6cm quick firing gun fitted to naval landing craft or used by landing parties in the German navy for close support artillery. When the gun was used as a landing gun, it was fitted onto a small wheeled carriage with a large shield with a limber attached to it for holding the ammunition. This unfired round has a steel projectile fitted with a steel and brass time and percussion fuse screwed into the nose graduated up to 42. The short brass cartridge case is headstamped PATRONEFABRIK KARLSRUHE 18, V111 1903 (August 1903 date) together with the Marine stamp at the top. The cartridge case if fitted with a brass C/12 primer. This gun was used by the Germans in their colonial empire including East Africa and on the WW1 battle front due to its light weight being easily transportable over soft ground. INERT DEACTIVATED. British Early WW1 4 Inch Light Trench Mortor ‘RML’ With No. 31 Fuse. O 1330 - O 1330
INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a scarce early WW1 British 4 inch light trench mortor originally developed during WW1 and entered service at the end of 1914. The mortor was fashioned from a 6 inch naval projectile, being lightened by boring the shell cavity out to lighten it. The mortor has a copper gas cheque on the bottom and three rectangular studs near the base of the projectile to engage in rifling of the mortor. A rifled muzzle loader (RML) is a type of large artillery piece invented in the mid-19th century. In contrast to smooth bore cannon which preceded it, the rifling of the gun barrel allowed much greater accuracy and penetration as the spin induced to the shell gave it directional stability. The mortor is complete with its rare alloy and brass number 31 Mk 1 nose fuse with an alloy hexagonal nose cap. The fuse was a modified British No 80 time and percussion fuse and the time element was altered at the lower settings by a small steel plate riveted on to the bottom time ring by three brass rivets. The fuse is stamped on its base’3/16’ (March 2016) V.S.M. (Vickers, Son and Maxim) The time ring is graduated from 0 to 22. The lacquered steel cartridge case is headstamped VI over 40 and 40 . The tungsten cored composite rigid projectile of the arrowhead type with a waisted belt around the centre of the projectile. DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a rare British WW2 (1945 dated) APDS/T (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot/Trace) round for the British 6pr 7cwt tank and the towed anti-tank guns. The anti-tank gun was first introduced on November 1941. Later the gun was fitted to the Churchill III & IV, Valentine IX, Crusader III tanks and the AEC armoured car Mk III. The APDS/T (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot/Trace) projectile, introduced into service in 1944 consists of a tungsten core sheathed in steel, fitted inside a light alloy sabot or sheath. Upon firing, the sabot is discarded and the reduced calibre projectile carries on to the target. This projectile carries most of its original paint and is stamped APDS 6PR 7CWT 1BT STC 3/45 (March 1945 date). The projectile is also stencilled in red round the circumference with the tracer symbol over KBY 4145 and19753 in red and 174 in white. The projectile has the following coloured rings at the tip white over red over blue over white. The cartridge case is headstamped a 6pr 7cwt I (Mark 1) 1942 RL (ROYAL LABORATORIES) LOT 4 C.F.. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a Japanese made 47mm, 1.85” Hotchkiss (47x131R) as used by the Japanese Navy in their 5cm Boat Gun. The brass cartridge case was made in Japan and has various Japanese markings on it. The pointed steel projectile has a standard Hotchkiss brass driving band design of the period and is threaded in the base for a base fuse. Later driving bands were narrower and were made of copper. DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a Russian unfired 1904 dated 37mm (37 x 94R) Pom Pom base fused HE (High Explosive) round. The gun was introduced as the QF 1 Pounder Maxim Pom Pom in the late 1880s by Maxim Gun Company, and used by many nations including the Russian navy. The brass cartridge cases have a copper percussion cap and are both dated 1904. The cartridges are headstamped with various Russian characters and 1904 straddling a naval anchor. The base fused steel projectile has a brass driving band and a brass centering band above it. The projectiles have Russian characters stamped round the bottom of the projectile. The projectile has a base fuse with Russian characters stamped round it. No licence is required to possess this round in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Rare WW1 French Navy Deck Charge, Ready to Use Copper Carrying Case. O 1605 - O 1605
This is a very rare WW1 French navy deck charge copper carrying case used to contain ready to use bagged charges kept next to the gun during the First World War. The case would hold cordite bagged charges which were very dangerous to store on deck, especially in action and were used to bring bagged charges from the magazine to the deck. This case is very heavy and consists of copper sides, top and base, riveted together with heavy rivets with a quick release round access hatch to the top with a turn lock handle on it. The handle has a brass pin attached by a chain to secure the handle when locked. The case was heavily soldered at all seams after it was riveted to make it water and spark proof. There are two swivelling brass carrying handles to the top of the case. The carrier measures 26 inches x 17 ½ inches x 14 inches. The French Adrian helmet on top of the cordite carrier is to give a feeling of size and is not included in the sale. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an Italian WW2 47mm armour piercing round for the 47/32 infantry/anti tank gun. The gun was introduced in 1935 and was the standard infantry/anti tank gun used by the Italians, especially in the Desert war in North Africa. This round has a steel cartridge case and is headstamped GR&C within a diamond, 2 over 94?, 47/32, a crown over 1cUT over 40 within an oval (1940 date). The armour piercing projectile has a narrow copper driving band and retains it original red painted nose and a yellow band underneath. The brass cartridge case is headstamped 37-85 9.17 (September 1917 date) 183 PDPs (Parc ‘dArtillery de Paris) flaming grenade inspection mark. The steel projectile has two copper driving bands and is fitted with a brass nose fuse. The projectile has 3 holes in the top near to the nose fuse to let the incendiary flames out. The brass nose fuse is stamped 428 as is the top of the projectile under the nose fuse. Although the projectile is unfired it has pitting to the steel body.
