Transit Cased, WW2 1944 Canadian Research Enterprises Ltd Contract Barr & Stroud Glasgow Scotland No 12 MK VI Rangefinder With Post WW2 1952 Gift Presentation Plate, WW2 1942 Dated Transit Case With Charles Franks Glasgow Suppliers Label. OPT 798 - OPT 798
This is an Infantry Rangefinder from WWII used by the infantry. Designed for P.I.L. (position in line) navigational and general purposes. This Rangefinder was made in Canada to support the British war effort. This rangefinder is contained in its original wooden transit chest. The range finder has manufacturer plate ‘Research Enterprises Ltd Canada By Arrangement With Barr & Stroud Glasgow Ltd Glasgow’ and identification plate ‘Rangefinder No.12 MK VI 1944’ together with serial number and 1931-35 patents (illustrated). There is also a later 1952 civilian Christmas gift presentation plate (illustrated). The instrument retains its original green paint finish, folding handles and lens covers with retaining straps. The optics function as they should. The wooden chest is in excellent condition with all straps and catches in good working order. Internally the case is fitted to hold the instrument securely. The case contains a tool / rod. The exterior of the chest has its original ‘Charles Franks Glasgow’ supplier’s label and original period Scottish postage stamps. **IMPRESSIVE**LARGE**WW1 Era British WD Brass & Leather Coastal Artillery Telescope By Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co Ltd London With Brass lens Cover Supplied By Charles Franks Glasgow & Matching Franks Glasgow WD Wood Tri-Pod With Spiked End Caps. - 14979/7865
In 1892 Alexander Thomas Clarkson went into partnership Robert Henry Broadhurst . They made quality optical instruments. In 1915 trading as 'Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co’ the business was listed at Farringdon Road London. During WW1 as part of the war effort, the company set up further telescope factories in Watford, and a lens-making facility in central London producing optical instruments for the British War Dept. This is an impressive WW1 era large British WD Brass & Leather Coastal Artillery Telescope by 'Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co Ltd London. The optics of the telescope are excellent and clear. It has a 3” diameter lens with its original protective brass cap. When mounted in its extended position it is 46” in length. The telescope is leather bound. The leather has a supplier’s label ‘Charles Franks Glasgow’ (illustrated in image 2). The brass draw of the scope is crisply marked by the manufacturer ‘'Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co Ltd 63 Farringdon Road London EC 3059 No.44” (illustrated in image 2). The telescope is mounted on its original heavy wood tripod with alloy and brass mounts. The legs have alloy spiked feet and one leg has its original leather strap with buckle for fastening the legs together during transit. The tripod holds the telescope by means of a brass bracket. The brass mount on the tripod has a ‘WD arrow’ and number ‘1643’ (illustrated in image 2). One leg of the tripod has a matching ‘Franks Glasgow’ retailer label (illustrated in image 2). The telescope rotates freely 360 degrees. The telescope including mount stands at 57" to the centre when in the open position. WW2 Era Canadian Royal Navy WD Pattern 373C ‘Officer Of The Watch’ Single Draw Brass Naval Telescope By CKC (Canadian Kodak Company)With Sliding Sun Shade & Intricate Rope Lashing. Sn 21067 - 21067
A World War II era Canadian WD marked single-draw nautical telescope. These telescopes were used by Ship’s 'Officer of the Watch'. Made from solid brass the barrel is wrapped in textured black leather and in the period it has had intricate rope cord lashing applied over the leather to assist grip. It has a sliding brass sun shade. The telescope has an adjusting ring numbered ‘0 + 5 - 5 – 0’. The draw is crisply marked with Canadian 'broad arrow' set inside of a 'C' ( this Canadian WD mark was discontinued circa 1949). It also has ‘Pattern 373C’ & ‘No. 3284’. 1906 Dated British WD Vickers Sons & Maxim Ltd Telescope Sighting No.4 (Mark 1) Brass 5.5 Magnification Sighting Scope For WW1 18 & 13 Pdr Field Artillery Guns. OPT 797 - OPT 797
The No.4 MK 1 was the standard sighting telescope used on the rocking bar sight on the standard 18 pdr field piece and possibly the 13 pdr. It has a 5.5 x magnification and a 5.5 degree field of view. The rocking bar gave it an independent line of sight from the barrel’s angle of elevation. Our example is in excellent condition. It has a post reticule. It is 17 ¼” overall length. The sight is clearly marked ‘Vickers Sons & Maxim Ltd 1906 No.571 Tel. Sighting No.4 (Mark 1)’ above WD arrow. The price includes UK delivery. WW2 Era Nazi German 7 X 50 Magnification Kriegsmarine Binoculars By Carl Zeiss, Jena With Neck Strap & Nazi Marked 1942 Dated Case. Sn 20823 - 20823
These are a very good, original cased pair of Nazi German, 7 X 50 Magnification, Kriegsmarine Binoculars. The Binoculars have a black textured finish, with adjustable eyepieces. The textured finish has areas of surface wear but the metal work is undamaged. The body of the binoculars have lanyard bars and are fitted with original leather neck strap. All optics are excellent and function as they should with just one small bloom to one lens which can be seen in image 2. The shoulders are crisply marked '7 x 50' (Magnification) together with serial number and bears the German manufacturer's name Carl Zeiss, Jena (all illustrated) together with Nazi ‘Eagle M’ Kriegsmarine mark. The Binoculars are contained in their fitted sturdy black leather case with hinged lid. The lid of the case has its original sprung fastener The body has its original single stud fastener. The case has hinged strap rings (shoulder strap absent) & the rear of the case has a large riveted and stitched belt loop. The body of the case body is date stamped ‘1942’ together with Nazi Waffenamt manufacturer code WaA14(illustrated, this code was assigned to various parts and components producers during wartime production). British WWI 1916 Dated Military Carl Zeiss, London Ltd. 6X Magnification Binoculars with Neck Strap and a Dated 1916 Leather Hard Case by A. Argastine & Co Ltd. OPT 796. - OPT 796
These are a cased pair of WWI, 1918 dated, British 6X magnification, military binoculars in their original leather case which is stamped by the manufacturer A. Argastine & Co Ltd’‘. The Binoculars are 3 ½ ” in length & have a black/brown leather textured finish, with adjustable eyepieces *Broad Arrows to both sides below the lens. The body of the binoculars have lanyard bars & are fitted with the correct leather neck strap. All optics are excellent and function as they should. One shoulder of the binoculars is marked BINOCULAR, PRISMATIC No3 (MARK II) MAGNIFICATION 6 No 1499. The other shoulder is marked GRATICULES ½ o and ½ o, 1 o and 1 ½ o high. There is also the monogram of CARL ZEISS (LONDON) LTD and the date 1916. The front of the prism blocks have double WD arrows engraved on to them. The brown leather fitted case has a carrying handle on the lid together with a buckle fastener to secure the case. The top of the case is stamped CASE No 3 PRISMATIC BINOCUSAR MARK II A. Argastine & Co Ltd 1916. Inscribed to the other side of the carrying handle is ‘A.J.H’ there is a Broad Arrow below the buckle. An excellent WW1 British Military telescope with 2 eye pieces and brown leather cases. This 3 draw MK IV telescope was made in 1917 by R & J Beck Ltd London. It also has its own separate brown leather case and straps for one of the eyepieces. The telescope is made of leather covered brass and is nicely stamped with the manufacturer's name, 1917 date, model detail and WD arrow (illustrated). The scope when open measures 31 ½”. It is complete with leather end caps and carry strap with adjustable buckles. All optics of the telescope and spare eyepiece are excellent and function as they should. The scope comes with an original WW1 period British WD Sniper Spotter’s Stand No 21 MK V Brass & Wood Tri-Pod. The wood legs have conical steel spiked feet. The brass clamp mount with wingnut has model and maker detail (illustrated in the images). The tripod is 15 ½” overall length. **RARE**Cased WW1 Era German Zielfernrohr ZF12 Optical Sight For The Maxim Gun By Emil Busch Rathenow, With 2 Spare Lenses. Sn 20627 - 20627
Every Maxim Gun was issued with a 2 ½ power optic sight known as the ZF12 (Zielfernrohr which translates to Scope). These sights were clamped onto sight base which was screwed to the left rear of the gun’s receiver (see pages 182 & 183 of ‘The Devil’s Paintbrush’ by Goldsmith and page 359 of the same book where a contemporary image is reproduced showing one of these sights mounted on a Maxim). This is an original rare Maxim gun ZF12 optical sight in its original fitted leather case. The original green painted brass sight with steel base has the correct graduated dial numbered 2634. The optics work perfectly and have the correct triangular reticule. It has a metal lens cover with leather retaining strap and one side of the sight has manufactuer detail ‘Emil Busch Rathenow’ model designation ‘ZF12’ and serial number ‘No 6274’. It is contained in its original fitted leather case with hinged lid and retaining straps with press stud fasteners. The rear of the case has 2 riveted belt loops. The inside of the lid has 2 flap pockets with press stud fasteners which hold 2 original spare lenses. One flap is numbered ‘6240’. The rear of the case has Busch matching manufacturer detail and ‘MG 3108. The left and right sides of the case have retaining straps with eyelets that fasten to studs on the lid of the case. WW2, Nazi German Kriegsmarine Armoured, U-Boat Turret, 'U-Bootglas' 7x 50 Binoculars By Carl Zeiss, Jena (blc). Sn 18685 - 18685
In early 1943 the Nazi German Command, introduced the 'U-Bootglas' 7x 50, Armoured, U-Boat Turret, Binoculars ( see pages 377/8 of Military Binoculars & Telescopes By Seeger). These Binoculars are an excellent original example. The Binocular's armoured body retains most of its original correct light green finish and has neck strap bars. The green finish has splashes of brown paint which may be from storage conditions or a contemporary attempt at camouflage. The lenses are protected by correct heavy duty rubber shrouds in excellent condition. The right shoulder under the rubber shroud is crisply stamped by the lens manufacturer’s Nazi German Wartime code 'blc' which is Carl Zeiss, Jena, together with 7x50 (magnification) & Number '56021'. These binoculars were originally issued without carry cases and in transportation crates of 10 for use by U-Boat crews. The optics of this instrument are perfect. WWI Trench Periscope No 25 (X6) and Case by R. & J.Beck Ltd. 19369. - 19369
Trench warfare is a type of land warfare using occupied fighting lines largely comprising military trenches, in which troops are well-protected from the enemy's small arms fire and are substantially sheltered from artillery. Periscopes were used to survey the surrounding area, although they were prone to being damaged by rifle fire. WWI Trench periscope with its original leather case. The handle periscope measures: (L 8cm x W 4cm; H 83cm - fully erected), with handle and leather case. The periscope bears the following incised markings: 'Periscope No 2 / R. & J. Beck Ltd / 1918 / No 4890 / (broad arrow). The periscope still retains the majority of its olive drab paint, and the handle is in remarkably good condition. The original thick leather case retains all but one of its tabs. The leather straps are working *one shortened. The leather has a lovely aged patina. An excellent piece of history for the collector.
