WW2 Era Nazi German 7 X 50 Magnification Kriegsmarine Binoculars By Wetzlar With Later Neck Strap. Sn 15756 - 15756
These are a good, original pair of Nazi German, 7 X 50 Magnification, Kriegsmarine Binoculars. The Binoculars have a black textured finish, with adjustable eyepieces. The textured finish is absent on large areas of the binoculars but the metal work is undamaged. The body of the binoculars have lanyard bars fitted with a later black nylon neck strap. All optics function as they should. The shoulders are crisply marked '7 x 50' (Magnification) together with serial number and bears the German manufacturer's name ‘Wetzlar’, together with Nazi Kriegsmarine Eagle with swastika and ‘M’ mark all highlighted in white (all illustrated). These are a very good, original cased pair of Nazi German, 7 X 50 Magnification, Kriegsmarine Binoculars. The Binoculars have a black textured finish, with adjustable eyepieces. The textured finish has areas of surface wear but the metal work is undamaged. The body of the binoculars have lanyard bars and are fitted with original leather neck strap. All optics are excellent and function as they should. The shoulders are crisply marked '7 x 50' (Magnification) together with serial number and bears the German manufacturer's Nazi code blc which is Carl Zeiss, Jena (all illustrated). The Binoculars are contained in their fitted sturdy black leather case with hinged lid. The lid of the case has its original sprung fastener which is date stamped ‘43’ (1943) together with Nazi manufacturer code ‘frn’ which is Federn Metallwerkenfabrik Havel (illustrated). The body has its original single stud fastener. The case has hinged strap rings (shoulder strap absent) & the rear of the case has a large riveted and stitched belt loop. In 1892 Alexander Thomas Clarkson went into partnership Robert Henry Broadhurst . They made quality optical instruments. In 1915 trading as 'Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co’ the business was listed at Farringdon Road London. During WW1 as part of the war effort, the company set up further telescope factories in Watford, and a lens-making facility in central London producing optical instruments for the British War Dept. This is an excellent British WW1 Officer’s Private Purchase 3 Draw Telescope similar in construction to War Dept contract Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co telescopes of WW1 . It is made of leather covered brass. It measures 28” extended and 11” closed. One draw is signed ‘Reconditioned For John Barker & Co Ltd Kensington W8 By Broadhurst, Clarkson & Co’ (illustrated). The eye piece has a sliding shutter. The front section of the telescope has a sliding sun shade. It is complete with its original leather lens caps with shoulder strap and adjustment buckle. The shoulder strap is perished in places consistent with age and use. Attached to the shoulder strap is a leather cased additional brass eyepiece which also has a sliding protective shutter. This is a rare, original WW1 era German RÜDIGER HILDESHEIM Sniper Telescopic Sight for Mauser G98 rifles. The steel sight is undamaged with original black paint. The sight is fitted with sight mounts . The sight is marked by the manager RÜDIGER HILDESHEIM either side of the elevation adjustment knob base. The tube is signed by the retailer ‘W.Peting Berlin’ & what appears to be ‘Kgl Hofbuchsen Halker’. It is made brass & has a Rosewood barrel. All optics of the telescope are excellent and function as they should. The scope is 9 ¾” in length when closed and 30” extended. C1890- 1903 English Archer & Sons 73 Lord Street Liverpool 4 Draw Leather Bound Brass Telescope With Brass Lens Cap & Sliding Eye Piece Shutter. Sn 14985 - 14985
The firm of W. F. Archer was established in 1848. It is presumed that the initial business was focused on optical devices, as they were later identified in ads as manufacturing opticians. In the early 1880s, Archer & Sons became known for their high quality, oil and lime light, Optical Lanterns. They were acknowledged in the British Journal of photography in 1884 and 85 to be superior to all others. They received medals from the Liverpool International Exhibition in 1886 and Photographic Exhibition in 1888. In 1888 they were located at 43 Lord St. Liverpool, England. In the 1890s several ads appeared for cameras of their manufacture. The first being the Archer combined camera. The later ads indicate that they were located at 73 Lord St. Liverpool, England. The last reference found is a 1903 advertisement for the Automat folding hand camera. This is an excellent Archer & Sons 4 draw telescope made at their 73 Lord Street address C1890-1903. It is made brass & bound in brown leather. All optics of the telescope are excellent and function as they should. The scope is 7 ½” in length when closed and 23 ¾” extended. One draw is engraved with manufacturer detail ‘Archer & Sons 73 Lord Street Liverpool’ (illustrated In Image 2). The telescope has a removable brass lens protector cap and sliding eye piece shutter. This is an excellent British Victorian Telescope with sliding sun visor. It is made of leather covered black lacquered brass. The brass is inscribed ‘Arthur Cartwright 1873 ‘ & ‘G.G.P Heywood 1894’. A paper label acquired with this piece reads ‘Inscribed Arthur Cartwright 1873 & G. Heywood 1894. Heywood lived at Tickwool Hall Shropshire & Gave these items to Andrew Palmer in early 20th C (Heath Gardeners son)’. The label accompanies the instrument and is worthy of further research. The eye piece has a small brass, sliding aperture cover. Fully extended the telescope measures 31 ¼”. It is complete with its original leather carry case with shoulder strap and adjustment buckle.
