**C1650-1700 ANCIENT BLADE**LARGE POWERFUL**Japanese Kanbun Shinto Wakizashi Single Handed Sword Smith Signed ‘HIZEN KUNI TADA YOSHI’ With Late Edo Period Iron Tsuba & Other Late WW2 Mounts, Scabbard & Expert Assessment. Sn 22340 - 22340 This is a Japanese Wakizashi with ancient blade. The sword has been examined by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg and a copy of his assessment notes accompany the sword. In extracts of his notes he states “A big powerful Wakizashi looks like kanbun Shinto blade circa 1650-1700 period. The blade has a deep curve, supurb grooves well cut, good balance and light in the hand. The stand out hamon is very complicated, large choji / gunome midare mix. The Ha-Buchi is nioi based with profuse nie crystals, hard to see because of the condition of the polish. Inscribed with a famous name in the sword world ‘Hizen Kuni Tada Yoshi’ a famous family making swords from 1595 through to 1868, 9 -10 generations. The only people to verify names are 2 organisations licenced by the Japanese Government NBTHK or NTHK. As found condition lots of scratches & stains. This sword blade has had a long journey. Originally a wakizashi in civilian mounts then in 1890’s mounted as a kyu-gunto with metal parade saya. Originally chrome painted black for Japanese / Russian war. Re-mounted for WW2 in odd mounts. Kyu gunto saya, showa gunto pattern hilt (tsuka) with late Edo iron tsuba signed but worn. Looks like a mid to late war put together because of sword shortages. This is in my opinion a good quality blade well worth restoration polish and shira saya resting mounts. It looks healthy & would look fabulous with a new polish”. In his illustrations of the blade he describes the cutting edge of blade as 53.5cms. Total length 69 cms. He also describes other blade characteristics and dimensions which can be seen in the images. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 22340
