RARE, WW1 Era German Army Model 1915 Feldfernsprecher Field / Trench Telephone With Original Wood Case & Crank Handle. Sn 15703:58 - 15703:58 The Model 1915 Feldfernsprecher (Field Telephone) is an early telephone used by the Imperial German army during WW1. The phone connects with wires. The user would turn a crank, the field telephone of your counterpart rings and you can talk to them. The telephones could connect troops at the front line to an outpost with the platoon/ company HQ thus avoid using wireless (if you had any). This is a rare to find example. It is complete with its original nickel plated brass handset wired with communication cord, Bakelite ear piece & mouth piece. The fitted case has the correct terminals for attaching communication wires. A terminal block is marked ‘W Ausg’. It also has its original steel crank handle which slots into a winding hole on the side of the case. The hole has a sliding steel cover. The wooden case is well made with its original hinges and steel button catch. The corners of the case have reinforced steel plates. The inside of the lid has remnants of its original instruction label adhered to it. The case measures It measures 8” x 9” x 3 ½”. The case has service wear to be expected and old stable worm holes. Large, Royal Doulton England Winston Churchill Toby Jug. Sn 15547 - 15547 This Toby jug is in the colourful form of Winston Churchill dressed in his iconic attire, smoking his signature cigar stub. The jug has no damage, cracks or chips and retains its vivid colour. The jug stands 9” tall and is 4 ½” base diameter at its widest. The base is stamped by the manufacturer Royal Doulton Made In England together with trademark, title ‘Winston Churchill’ and number 80 which is either an issue number or 1980 date (Winston Churchill themed Toby Jugs were produced by Royal Doulton from C1941 through to the early 1990’s). C1964 – 1994 Collection of 3 Admiral Nelson Royal Doulton & Tony Wood Staffordshire Porcelain Figures / Jugs. Sn 15548 - 15548 A collection of 3 pieces commemorating Admiral Nelson. From left to right in the images is a Royal Doulton pot featuring the bust of Nelson. The base has the title 'Nelson', Royal Doulton International Collector’s club mark and 1994 Doulton copyright together with other numbers. The next is a figure of Nelson in Uniform standing at a map table. The base is named ‘The Captain’ and has Doulton 1964 copyright information. The 3rd piece is a small jug in the form of a bust of Nelson. The base of this piece is marked ‘Tony Wood Staffordshire England’ and titled ‘Lord Admiral Nelson’. All markings are illustrated. 1971 To 1974 British Halcyon Skies London Cargo Ship’s Brass Bell With Iron Striker. MISC 890 - MISC 890 The Halcyon Skies was a 27502 Ton Cargo ship laid down in 1971 for Court Lines London. In 1974 the ship was sold to Open Seas Cia Nav, Liberia and re-named Patianna. In 1980 it was sold to Manunited Cia Nav Greece and re-named Anna Xyla. In 1981 it was destroyed by fire at Jebel Dhanna and hulked, then scrapped in 1985. This is the Halcyon Skies London brass ship’s bell used on the ship between 1971 and 1974 before being sold on to the Liberian Company. The bell is 12" tall and the mouth 11” diameter from rim edge to rim edge. It is complete with iron striker fitted with plaited white rope cord. The bell sounds perfectly with a loud deep resonance. The top of the bell is crowned with a thick cast, holed hanging block. The front of the bell is deeply cut with large lettering ‘Halcyon Skies’ highlighted in black paint and the rear ‘London’ highlighted in red paint. MASSIVE, WW2 Era Japanese Silk 'Yosegaki Hinomaru' House Banner To Wish Good Luck To Soldiers Departing For War. Sn 15390:10 - 15390:10 This is an excellent original Japanese 'yosegaki hinomaru' or good luck banner. Flag. The massive banner is 4.267 metres overall length and 68.5 cm width. These banners were made by family members and friends of Japanese Soldiers going to war and contained personalized messages and / or signatures. The banners would be hung outside family homes of Soldiers departing for war in the hope that the messages would bring them good fortune. This banner is made of white silk and on one side has a hand painted colourful panel at the top featuring the Imperial Chrysanthemum ‘Mon’ badge and crossed flags, one depicting the ‘rising sun’ sunburst battle flag, the other depicting the Japanese National ‘red sun’ flag. Below the panel there are large Japanese script characters for the full length of the banner (the characters bottom to top are illustrated left to right in image 3). The banner has stitched edges and the bottom edge has original small tassels. The material has no mothing or other holes and just areas of light staining consistent with age. Original Large Framed, American WW2 1940-1944 Colour Lithograph ‘Belgium Fights On’ Propaganda / Recruitment Poster By The Belgian Artist R. Sturbelle Published By The Belgian Information Center New York USA. Sn 15182 - 15182 After the German occupation of Belgium in May 1940, a Belgian Government in Exile was set up in London, while in 1942 the Belgian League was established to organise resistance to the Germans. The purpose of this poster was to encourage support within America for the Belgian resistance cause. In the diagonal sweep of the composition, the image of the bound prisoners facing the German firing squad is counteracted by the avenging Belgian soldier and the thrust of the fighter aircraft. The artwork was by R. Sturbelle, whose name suggests he was himself Belgian and the posters were published between 1940 & 1944 by the American Belgian Information Center, New York. The Colour lithograph paper poster retains all of its original vivid colour and has no staining or damage. The composition comprises a cluster of four bound prisoners in the upper left corner before a firing squad of helmeted soldiers who stand on the diagonal at the right. The central image shows three war planes flying in formation. In the lower centre, printed in full colour, is a charging soldier thrusting his bayonet, seen from above. Large red type is printed across three lines: "Belgium Fights On". The signature of the artist “R. Sturbelle” is printed in grey in upper right corner. “Published by the Belgian Information Center 630 Fifth Street New York City” is printed in black across the lower margin of the poster together with a small printed Union Registration mark. The poster is mounted in a later dark wood frame with clear laminate plastic window. The poster in its frame measures 32” x 26” x ½” and the rear is mounted with cord for wall hanging. NB. Complete and Original WW1 'Der Weltkrieg' (World War) 1914-1918 German Commemorative Cigarette Card Album By Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Dresden. Sn 14401:2 - 14401:2 Original and complete cigarette card collector's book titled Der Weltkrieg (The World War) compiled in Germany in 1937 as a commemoration of World War I. This scrapbook for cigarette cards from the 1930s provides an invaluable pictorial record of World War I. It captures the German perspective of the War in picture and writing and functions as a reference book for multiple generations. It features 270 full-colour cigarette cards, all are present and securely fixed, illustrating significant German battles and events. The scrapbook was issued by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Dresden. This scrapbook captures the German perspective of World War I in pictures and writing. Themes such as nationalism, armed forces, everyday life during the war and stereotypical images of the enemy forces are referenced by the visual iconography. Through the chapters the progression of the war is illustrated. The individual sections are organised around each year of the war, 1914-18. The introduction to each chapter lists the different theatres and progression of the war. This summary is followed by sections, which under individual headings like 'Reason and Start of War', display cigarette cards and a short description of the image on that card. The first chapter also features a map of Belgium, France, Germany and parts of Switzerland in 1914 with the German armies and their campaigns. The appendix features cards depicting life behind the front line, the war in the colonies, and Germany's enemies. While the cigarette cards are in colour, the chapters are predominantly printed in sepia. WW2 Period Aluminium Wash Bowl And Leather Bound Carrier Top With Labels To Major F.C. Green, 'M.C.' of the Royal Tank Regiment. Sn 14334 - 14334 This is a WW2 period aluminium wash bowl and leather bound top which belonged to Major F. C. Green M.C. of the Royal Tank Regiment. The Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) is the oldest tank unit in the world, being formed by the British Army in 1916 during the Great War. Today, it is the armoured regiment of the British Army's 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade. Formerly known as the Tank Corps and the Royal Tank Corps, it is part of the Royal Armoured Corps. Major Green was in the 4th Royal Tank Regiment. The 4th and the 7th had been destroyed fighting side by side in Tobruk but the Army Board took the decision that neither would be lost in the Order of Battle. It was a singular recognition of what they had together achieved during their remarkable history. This washbowl and top is complete with labels, one brown label attached by string showing it was owned by "Major F. C. Green MC Royal Tank Regt. Empire Ke. - Port Said" and on the reverse "Via Liverpool St and Waterloo To Southampton Central". The top is 16" across with a leather rolled stitched edge. One label says "Cabin". The washbowl top is in excellent condition. It has four leather tongues through which a thin leather strap is threaded and secured with a steel buckle. Early 20th Century British AM ‘Air Ministry’ Marked Brass Bulkhead Clock With 60 Seconds Time Keeping Feature & Original Key. Sn 14293 - 14293 An original British form brass bulkhead clock. This example has a 5” diameter white enamel face which is clean with brass metal hour and minute hands together with an inner 1 ¼” diameter 60 second timer roundel with black metal second hand indicator. The clock case is brass and comes with its key. The face also has an adjustable slow-fast slider in a slot for fine tuning the time keeping. There is also a hole for key winding. There are no manufacturer marks on the exterior of this piece. The face is covered by a hinged glazed brass rimmed cover. The inside of the cover’s rim is marked ‘AM’ most likely ‘Air Ministry’ (illustrated). The rim has a small brass post to assist opening. The clock case measures 6” in diameter and is 3” deep with face cover closed. The rim of the case has 3 drilled holes for wall mounting. This clock has recently been cleaned and serviced. RARE, Victorian Or Earlier Medieval / Italian Renaissance Form Battle Shield With Ornate Decoration. Sn 13597 - 13597 The Victorian era saw a revival of interest of objects from the renaissance and ancient medieval cultures that influenced architecture, decoration, furnishings and art. This renewed awareness led to an intense affinity of arms and armour from those periods of history and production of quality authentic reproduction arms and armour. This is a fine medieval / renaissance form battle shield. Its excellent quality and form indicates that it is either a Victorian reproduction or possibly a much earlier piece. The iron shield is 23” diameter with a rope effect and riveted rim. The surface of the shield is elegantly convex and has a pyramid form 3” spike in its centre mounted on a stylised rose form boss, which in its original form would allow the carrier to strike opponent’s, allowing the shield to be used for both defence and attack. This form also provides strength to the structure and would assist deflection of striking weapons. The whole surface of the shield has beautifully etched panels in the Italian Renaissance style featuring religious, hunting, and battle iconography. The shield retains its original shape and original 4 carry strap lugs. The rear of the shield has its original leather riveted padding and a later steel wire carry handle or wall hanger cord secured to 2 of the lugs. The shield has even patina and no damage.
