**MINT**WW2 Era Original ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association) Woman’s Cap With Original Enamelled Brass ENSA Cap Badge As Worn By Vera Lynn Of ‘We’ll Meet Again’ Fame. Sn 22441:6 - 22441:6
The Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) was an organisation established in 1939 by Basil Dean and Leslie Henson to provide entertainment for British armed forces personnel during World War II. ENSA operated as part of the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes. In 1946 it was re-named to Combined Services Entertainment (CSE) operating under the Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC), until 2 March 2020, when the SSVC re-branded to the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), with the CSE likewise re-branding as BFBS Live Events. The first big wartime variety concert organised by ENSA was broadcast by the BBC to the Empire and local networks from RAF Hendon in north London on 17 October 1939. Despite many extremely talented entertainers working for ENSA, the organisation was necessarily spread thin over the vast area it had to cover. Thus many entertainments were substandard, and the popular translation of the acronym ENSA was "Every Night Something Awful". ENSA talent toured with shows across all theatres of war to maintain / raise morale amongst personal of all arms of the British & Allied Military. Many members of ENSA later had careers in the entertainment industry after the war, including actors Terry-Thomas, Peter Sellers and Kenneth Connor. The iconic singer & songwriter Vera Lynn famous for her renditions of the War Time song ‘We’ll Meet Again’ was a member of ENSA and tored war zones with the organisation. In the illustrated period image she can be seen wearing her ENSA uniform cap with ENSA cap badge similar to ours. The cap is in near mint condition. Our original Female ENSA Uniform cap has a clean soft khaki body soft peak, stitched skull band with bow which is mounted with brass and enamel ENSA cap badge. The inside of the cap has its original clean cotton lining. The cap is small size approx. UK 6. There are no maker or date marks on the cap. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 22441:6

*Original* Pre- Nazi German Hamburg City Police Shako N 409. - N 409
After the First World War, riots and civil disorder caused the reinforcement of the police with soldiers and militia. After the period of the German Revolution of 1918–1919 the Hamburg Police had a Sicherheitspolizei (protection or security police) and an Ordnungspolizei (order police). The Order Police were stationed in barracks. In 1920, during the Kapp Putsch the police, especially the leading officers, showed itself as unreliable. After several administrative changes the Sicherheitspolizei was dissolved and replaced by the Order Police. As of 1932 the police consisted of 21 units, with 2,100 men. In 1933, there were 5,500 men, including the criminal investigation units and the administration. An excellent example of a pre–Nazi German Police Shako (A shako is a tall, cylindrical military cap, usually with a visor, and sometimes tapered at the top. It is usually adorned with an ornamental plate or badge on the front, metallic or otherwise; and often has a feather, hackle, or pompom attached at the top) with black municipal leather fittings. Black leather body with state cockade and thick alloy, Hamburg City Police helmet plate with rear screw fittings. Complete with leather chinstrap and original brown leather liner. The helmet is made by Hans Romer of Neu-Ulm (Donau). Size 6 & 7/8". In very nice condition. Price includes UK delivery. N 409.

*Original* WWI German M1916 Camouflaged Helmet with Liner. 22344. - 22344
The Stahlhelm (German for "steel helmet") is a term used to refer to a series of German steel combat helmet designs intended to protect the wearer from common battlefield hazards such as shrapnel. Before the Great War, most types of military headdress were not designed for protection. Most militaries had adopted either a cap or helmet, usually made of fabric or leather. Only some types of cavalry retained a metal helmet, albeit these were designed to protect against sabre blows rather than the causes of injury that would become prevalent in the war. After lengthy development work, which included testing a selection of German and Allied headgear, the first stahlhelm were tested in November 1915 at the Kummersdorf Proving Ground and then field-tested by the 1st Assault Battalion. Thirty thousand examples were ordered, but it was not approved for general issue until New Year of 1916, hence it is most usually referred to as the "Model 1916". In February 1916 it was distributed to troops at Verdun, following which the incidence of serious head injuries fell dramatically. The first German troops to use this helmet were the stormtroopers of the Sturm-Bataillon Nr. 5 (Rohr), commanded by Captain Willy Rohr. This excellent ‘hand painted’ camouflaged example is in very good order, with chin strap and later added liner. See page 50-51 of History of the German steel helmet 1916-1945 by Ludwig Baer for similar. Marked on the side ET66 (Eisenhuttenwerke Tahle, size 66). A very nice distinctive piece. The price includes UK delivery. 22344.
