British WW2 1945 Dated, 1942 Pattern Commando and SBS Bergin. Sn - 19599:3
This is a British WW2, 1945 dated Commando Bergin. The design of the Bergin was adopted by a pattern made by the Bergin Company in Norway prior to WW2. The bergin was adopted by various nations during the war and this is the British pattern 42. This bergin consists of a black painted steel frame that carries the bergin high on the back with a large capacity khaki rubberised canvas rucksack. The bergin is complete with all of its original straps and the tie cord to the neck. There are no cuts to the canvas of the rucksack. This bergin carries a large white leather makers label ?&A.H. 1945 (1945 date) with a crowfoot over 88 sewn into to the inside. The bergin has a large pocket with 2 canvas buckles at the front and 2 smaller side pockets, one to each side both with one canvas buckles. The top of the bag has eyelets \which hold the khaki fastening cord with a waterproof flap to cover the cord. This flap is closed off by another large flap with an interior zipped pocket with two long webbing straps fastening to the front of the rucksack. This bergin also has an extra webbing tie under the eyelets to secure the lower half of the bergin closed whilst above this and under the top cord fastening can be used to carry items separately and ready to use. The base of the rucksack where it contacts the lower back has a piece of white leather sewn on for comfort and wear. The bergin has a large pocket with 2 canvas buckles at the front and 2 smaller side pockets, one to each side both with one canvas buckles. The top of the bag has eyelets for a fastening cord with a waterproof flap to cover the cord. This flap is closed off by another large flap with an interior zipped pocket with two long webbing straps fastening to the front of the rucksack. **Very Scarce** Original British 1933 & 1940 Dated Service Case for the .303 Enfield Rifle Ball Rounds. 19113. - 19113
The .303 British Service cartridges, commonly known as the .303 or .303 British was adopted by Britain in 1889. This round, as originally adopted, consisted of a 215 grain, round nosed, cupro nickel jacketed bullet in front of 71.5 grains of RFG2 Black powder. This powder charge being pressed into a pellet with both ends slightly rounded and pierced with a flash hole through the centre. This original case is dated ‘9.3.33’ to the side RL (Royal Labs) (9th March 1933) which is the construction date. The box is also dated ‘6.40’ to the top, (June 1940) which is when it was examined and issued. The box has its original stickers ‘MK VII’ which would hold 300 cartridges.303 British Enfield stripper clips are 5 round clips and a mix of blued and parkerised. The box has its original brass split pin and clasp. The box still retains its wire rope handle with leather carrying hoop. To find one of these boxes in such good condition is very rare indeed, as once the boxes were emptied in action they were burned, dumped or destroyed. This is an excellent piece for the collector. WW1 Era British WD Officer’s Gas Mask With Canvas Satchel By Waring & Gillow With Original Record Of Issue Card. Sn 18125:13 - 18125:13
Waring and Gillow Ltd, Lancaster’s famous furniture business of Gillows and Co dated back to the early 18th century. By the early years of the 20th century it had merged with the Liverpool based company of Waring. They produced a wide range of items for the WW1 war effort using the full range of skills found across each department. This ranged from standard joinery for packing crates, fine woodworking for aeroplane wings, upholstery for tents, haversacks and even uniform tunics. This is an original WW1 era British Officer’s gas mask with WD Satchel by Waring & Gillow . The Gas mask has its original rubber backed cloth covered face mask with hose and filtration canister. The material is fragile. It has shrunk and the perished in areas to be expected with age and service use and is unwearable. The mask has its original eye lenses. The hose is intact and the filtration canister has no dents but does have light surface rust. The mask has ink inspection marks (illustrated) The head straps are present but have become detached on one side of the mask. The canvas satchel has a flap cover with press studs and adjustable shoulder strap. The inside of the top flap is WD marked and is ink stamped by the manufacturer ‘Waring & Gillow’. The outside of the flap is numbered ‘2’ and has other small handwritten numbers (illustrated). The satchel has internal pockets to hold the mask and canister. Attached to the inside of the satchel by its original cord is the mask’s record of issue card. The record has no entries (illustrated). The satchel has storage staining and some holes consistent with age and service use. It is rare to find these gas masks from the Great War. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 18125:13

WW2 Era 1935 Dated M1934 Alpine / Mountain Troops German Heer (Army) Tornister Pony Hide & Olive Canvas Back Pack By G.J Ensink & Co Ohrdruf. Sn 18125:6 - 18125:6
This is an original 1938 dated German Heer Tornister (Back Pack). These packs were used by Apline / Mountain troops during WW2. The pack has leather shoulder straps with sprung alloy clips which have inspection marks. The pack has leather reinforced edges. The rear top edging is dated ‘1935’ together with manufacturer detail ‘G.J Ensink & Co Ohrdruf’. The pack is made of drab olive canvas & folds open with compartments secured by studs and leather straps with buckles. The pack’s flap has the correct brown pony hide covering. Internally the pack has an indistinct rectangular ink stamp, crisp ‘E37’ ink stamp and clen cloth label ‘G.Sch’ (period German quality assurance label). The pack measures 16” height and is 14” wide closed. The Haversack has additional leather tabs for additional strap / equipment carry attachments. The material is clean with no mothing.
