**MINT**Cased Limited Edition (No.673 of 2,500) Commemorative Fairbairn Sykes 2nd Pattern FS Fighting Knife 'The Invasion Of Italy' By Wilkinson Sword With Etched Blade From The WW2 Victory Collection By The American Historical Foundation. Sn 21380 - 21380 This superb 2nd pattern FS Commando dagger was issued by The American Historical Foundation to Commemorate the WW2 Invasion Of Italy. Only 2,500 daggers were produced for the Edition. The dagger is in pristine condition. It has a beautiful blued blade etched on one side with the Wilkinson Sword London name & crossed swords legend & decorative foliate panels and wording 'Strike Hard & Strike Home' together with the names of the war time American president ' Roosevelt' & British Prime Minister 'Churchill' (all illustrated). The ricasso is stamped with the weapons Edition number '673'.The reverse is etched 'In Honor Of The Invasion of Italy 14 May 1943, 2 May 1945' with battle honour roll within scrolling panels. The 2nd pattern knurled handle and plain cross guard retain all of their original finish. The dagger is contained in its original wooden case covered with red velour material. The case has a hinged lid and 2 brass clasp fasteners . The inside of the case is lined with red velour & white silk. It is contoured to snugly fit the dagger and the silk interior has the wording 'The World War II Victory Collection, The Invasion Of Italy Limited Edition Issued By The American Historical Foundation, Richmond Virginia' all in Gold. **MINT**24 CT GOLD PLATED HILT**Cased 1981 Limited Edition (No. 1000 of 1000) Commemorative 3rd Pattern FS Fighting Knife 'SAS 40th Anniversary’ By Crown Swords Blade Etched ‘22nd SAS Regiment’ Certificate,Info Leaflet Original 1981 Sales receipts. - 21398 This is a near mint limited edition 3rd pattern FS Commando dagger manufactured by Crown Swords Berkshire to the same exacting standards of specification and detail as FS knives used during WW2 with the addition of an etched blade. These knives were manufactured in a production run of only 1000 blades in 1981 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the Special Air Service in 1941. This particular cased knife was bought from Crown Swords in 1981 by a British Army Captain and it is accompanied by the original crown swords sales receipts, information documents and retail shipping packaging. The knife is in near mint condition. It has a beautiful blade etched on both sides. One side is etched with ‘Crown Swords’ manufacturer's name and legend together with para jump wings and imagery of troops parachuting from an aircraft. The reverse has scroll banners ‘22nd Special Air Service Regiment’ with SAS winged dagger ‘Who Dares Wins’ Regiment badge. The cross guard is stamped ‘SAS’ and with limited edition number ‘1000’ (of 1000). The 24ct gold plated 3rd pattern ribbed handle and cross guard retain all of their original finish. The dagger is contained in its original wooden case covered with black leatherette material. The case has a hinged lid the top of which has the SAS winged dagger badge. FS COMMANDO DAGGER CONNECTIONS Victorian Era Marshall Glasgow Scotland Bowie Knife With Stag Horn Scales & Original Leather Sheath. 14522 - 14522 A nice Victorian era Scottish Bowie & Scabbard. It has lovely stag horn scales secured by brass pins & German Silver cross guard. It has an 8” single edged, steel bowie blade, marked ‘Marshall Glasgow’ (most likely J&I Marshall, Glasgow, Scotland, a firm of Cutlers dating back to 1888 who went on to make FS commando fighting knives bearing their name during WW2. FS knives bearing Marshall’s name are extremely rare and sought after). The bowie measures 12 ¼” overall length. Its original brown leather sheath has an integral belt loop and stitched seam. WW2 British WD 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife & Scabbard. Sn 21339 - 21339 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941 (see page 89-93 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This is an original, WW2 2nd pattern, WD, FS dagger and scabbard. The hilt is brass with 2nd pattern knurled grip and a blued steel oval cross guard. The top of one side of the cross guard is stamped with War Dept arrow mark. It has a clean 171mm long double edged blade with medial ridge. Its original scabbard has an external brass chape & as is common its original 4 sewn on leather tabs have been cut back & its original elastic retaining strap is absent. **MINT**Cased, Limited Edition D.L.I. Blade 406 Of 500, WW2 Commemorative Wilkinson Sword Fairbairn Sykes 3rd Pattern FS Fighting Knife 'United We Conquer 1940-1945' With Etched Blade & Factory Commissioned Durham Light Infantry Regiment Badge. Sn 21321 - 21321 The British Commandos were formed in the early stages of the Second World War, in June 1940, following a request from the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, for a force that could carry out raids against German-occupied Europe. Initially drawn from within the British Army from soldiers who volunteered for the Special Service Brigade, the Commandos' ranks would eventually be filled by members of all branches of the United Kingdom's armed forces and a number of foreign volunteers from German-occupied countries. Reaching a war time strength of over 30 individual units and four assault brigades, the Commandos served in all theatres of war from the Arctic Circle to Europe and from the Mediterranean and Middle East Theatre to South-East Asia. Their operations ranged from small groups of men landing from the sea or by parachute to a brigade of assault troops spearheading the Allied invasions of Europe and Asia. All Commandos were issued with the iconic FS Fighting knife. This attractive full size (11 1/2" overall) 3rd pattern FS Commando dagger was produced post WW2 by Wilkinson Sword in a Limited Edition of 500 blades to Commemorate the British Commandos WW2 Service 1940-1945 (see page 97 items 482 & 483 of Fighting Knives by Stephens). The knife is in near mint condition. It has a 180mm long nickel plated blade etched on both sides in gilt, one side ‘1940-1945’ the reverse ‘United We Conquer’. The ricasso of one side is etched with the Wilkinson Sword manufacturer's panel & QEII Royal Appointment. The reverse has blade number ‘W (Wilkinson) 309 (blade number of 500)’ there is also a factory etched Regimental badge of the Durham Light Infantry gilt etched on the blade no doubt commissioned by the original owner at time of purchase from Wilkinson (the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) was an Infantry Regiment of the British Army from 1881 to 1968). The cross guard is nickel plated. The ribbed handle is brass with gilt finish. The dagger is contained in its original ‘Wilkinson Sword Fairbairn Sykes London’ marked quality leatherette wrapped wooden case. The case has a hinged lid and clasp fasteners. 1983 Gib Baxter Watercolour Painting Of Operation Colossus The 1st British Airborne Assault By X Troop 1941 To Destroy An Aqueduct Near Calitri Italy. Sn 20790 - 20790 Operation Colossus was the codename given to the first airborne operation undertaken by the British military, which occurred on 10 February 1941 during World War II. The first airborne unit to be formed was actually a re-trained Commando unit, No. 2 Commando, which was subsequently renamed as No. 11 Special Air Service Battalion and numbered approximately 350 officers and other ranks by September 1940. The battalion finished its training in December 1940 and in February 1941 thirty-eight members of the battalion, known as X Troop, were selected to conduct an airborne operation, which was intended to test the capability of the airborne troops and their equipment, as well as the ability of the Royal Air Force to accurately deliver them. The target chosen for the operation was a fresh-water aqueduct near Calitri in southern Italy, which supplied water to a large portion of the Italian population as well as several ports used by the Italian armed forces; it was also hoped that its destruction would hamper Italian military efforts in North Africa and Albania. The airborne troops were delivered by converted Armstrong Whitworth Whitley medium bombers to the target on 10 February but equipment failures and navigational errors meant that a significant portion of the troop's explosives and a team of Royal Engineer sappers, landed in the wrong area. Despite this setback the remaining members of the troop destroyed the aqueduct and withdrew from the area. All were captured by the Italian authorities within a short time; an Italian translator was tortured and executed and one paratrooper managed to escape but the rest remained as prisoners of war. This is an excellent original watercolour painting of members of X Troop parachuting from their Whitworth Whitley aircraft over harsh terrain at the start of their heroic mission to destroy the aqueduct. The painting is signed by the artist ‘Gib Baxter’ and dated ’83 (1983). The paintings colours are vivid. The painting in its glazed wood frame measures 15 ¼” x 19 ¼” x 1 ¼”. **ISSUED BUT UN-USED**WW2 British 3rd Pattern Commando Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With No.3 Mould Mark & Original Field Adapted Scabbard. ED 2177 - ED 2177 An excellent original WW2 3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. The 3rd pattern knife was introduced in 1942 (see Chapter 8 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This example has an undamaged ribbed alloy handle which retains some of its blackened finish and a clean 168mm steel blade with medial ridge. It has a number 3 mould mark on the ribbed 3rd pattern alloy handle. The blackened oval cross guard is steel. The dagger is complete with correct original leather scabbard in nice condition with external brass chape and belt loop. The scabbard retains its original 4 sewn on leather tabs and elastic retaining strap which as is common has perished in the middle. The rear of the scabbard has a period field adaption by the addition of a large leather belt loop being stitched to the back of the original belt loop for carry on a wide belt. **RARE**ORIGINAL 1st PATTERN HILT**STERILE**WW2, 2nd Pattern, Wilkinson British Officer's, Grey Or Matt Nickel Plated Hilt, Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife & Scabbard. Sn 20163 - 20163 2nd Pattern 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. This is a rare example of the WW2, 2nd Pattern, Officer's fighting knife with 1st Pattern coarsely knurled nickel plated brass hilt which has a grey or matt nickel finish and 2nd pattern oval steel cross guard (see page 93 of ‘the Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook where he describes & illustrates a 2nd pattern FS with 1st pattern hilt. He comments that knives with 1st pattern hilts but without Wilkinson logos has led many collectors to conclude that they are in fact a Wilkinson product). It has a clean 167mm double edged dagger blade with medial ridge. The knife has no maker, date or inspection marks. The dagger is complete with original scabbard with belt loop & brass chape. WW2 Era British 2nd Pattern Nickel Plated Officer’s 'Sterile' Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife & Scabbard. Sn 20444:17 - 20444:17 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. This is a very good condition WW2 Officer’s 2nd pattern, FS dagger and scabbard. Examples of Nickel plated FS daggers are illustrated in Chapter 7 of ‘The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives’ by Flook. The dagger has the correct nickel plated brass knurled handle & oval cross guard. The knife is ‘sterile’ with no manufacturer or Unit marks. The knife has a 177 mm long blade with medial ridge. The blade is clean. Its original scabbard has a nickel plated chape and integral belt loop. AS is common its original 4 sewn on leather tabs have been cut back in the period and its original elasticated retaining strap is absent.
