**RARE**OFFICERS QUALITY**WW2 American United States Marine Corps Officer’s British WD 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With Nickel Plated Hilt, Privately Commissioned Etched Banner To ‘T.R. Evans USMC’ & Scabbard With 1944 Webbing Frog. - 21600 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. Examples with etched blades are illustrated in Chapter 7 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook. American & Canadian special forces soldiers & Officers bought FS fighting knives as private purchase weapons. Examples of named, etched blades are illustrated on pages 96 & 97 of Flook’s book. This British WD marked Officer’s example has a knurled nickel plated 2nd pattern hilt and blued oval cross guard stamped with British WD arrow over ’56 which is a known WD mark found on British WW2 FS knives. It has a clean, undamaged 166mm blade with medial ridge. One side of the blade has a crisp etched & blued scrolling banner with name & designation ‘T.R. Evans USMC’. The dagger is complete with original leather scabbard with blackened external brass chape and single belt loop. As is common its 4 sewn on leather tabs have been cut back in the period and its original elasticated retaining strap although present is perished in the centre. The scabbard has a period field adaptation of being fitted with a period webbing frog. The rear of the frog has some indistinct ink markings and clear 1944 date. **RARE STILETTO BLADE VARIANT**WW2 British 3rd Pattern Commando Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With No.1 Mould Mark & Scabbard. Sn 21608:11 - 21608:11 An excellent original WW2 3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife with rare to find stiletto form blade. The 3rd pattern knife was introduced in 1942 (see Chapter 8 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This example has an undamaged ribbed alloy handle which retains much of its blackened finish and a 171mm stiletto form steel blade with medial ridge (we do not often find FS knives with this correct rare form stiletto blade which is slimmer and longer than standard FS blades). The blade is sharp. It has a number 1 mould mark on the ribbed 3rd pattern alloy hilt. The dagger is complete with correct original leather scabbard in nice condition with external blackened brass chape and belt loop. Sn 21558 - 21558 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. Examples with etched blades are illustrated in Chapter 7 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook. WW2 Era British WD Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife Beaded & Ribbed (9 Rows Of Beads) & Scabbard. Sn 21599 - 21599 The Beaded & Ribbed variant of the Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting knife was available as a private purchase weapon but were also Military issue. Beaded & Ribbed versions have been found with 9,8,7 & 6 rows of beads (see page 127 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives by Ron Flook). This WW2 era WD marked Beaded and Ribbed Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife has a brass beaded and ribbed grip with 9 rows of beads. The cross guard is stamped with WD arrow indicating military issue. It has a 176mm long blade with medial ridge. The blackened blade has just light staining to be expected. It is complete with original scabbard with external brass chape. As is common, the scabbard’s 4 original sewn on leather tabs have been period cut back and its original elasticated retaining strap on the belt loop is absent. The price includes UK delivery. **RARE**Limited Edition One Of Only 400**Cased, WW2 Commemorative Wilkinson Sword Fairbairn Sykes 3rd Pattern FS Fighting Knife 'United We Conquer 1940-1945' With Etched Blade. Sn 21466 - 21466 The British Commandos were formed in the early stages of the Second World War, in June 1940, following a request from the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, for a force that could carry out raids against German-occupied Europe. Initially drawn from within the British Army from soldiers who volunteered for the Special Service Brigade, the Commandos' ranks would eventually be filled by members of all branches of the United Kingdom's armed forces and a number of foreign volunteers from German-occupied countries. Reaching a war time strength of over 30 individual units and four assault brigades, the Commandos served in all theatres of war from the Arctic Circle to Europe and from the Mediterranean and Middle East Theatre to South-East Asia. Their operations ranged from small groups of men landing from the sea or by parachute to a brigade of assault troops spearheading the Allied invasions of Europe and Asia. All Commandos were issued with the iconic FS Fighting knife. This attractive full size (11 ½” overall) 3rd pattern FS Commando dagger was produced post WW2 by Wilkinson Sword in a Limited Edition of 400 blades for the American market & 500 for the British & Canadian markets to Commemorate the British Commandos WW2 Service 1940-1945 (see page 97 items 482 & 483 of the book ‘Fighting Knives’ by Stephens). The knife is in excellent condition. It has a blued blade etched on both sides, one side ‘United We Conquer 1940-1945’. The reverse with panel of foliate decoration. The ricasso of one side is etched with the Wilkinson Sword manufacturer's panel & QEII Royal Appointment. The reverse has Wilkinson name & Royal appointment together with ‘US’ indicating this is one of the 400 blades made for the American market (there is no visible blade production number). The ribbed 3rd pattern handle and cross guard retain their original blue finish. The dagger is contained in its later quality made leatherette wrapped wooden case. The case has a hinged lid and clasp fasteners. The inside of the case is lined with green felt. It is contoured to snugly fit the dagger. **NEW TO MARKET DIRECT FROM FAMILY OF WW2 PARA JOSEPH ELLIOT**WW2 British 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife & Scabbard With Provenance & Sepia Copies Of Original WW2 Photos Of The Soldier In Theatre. Sn 21429 - 21429 This is an original WW2 2nd Pattern FS fighting knife, new to the market, recently acquired direct from the family of WW2 veteran Joseph Elliot service number APV000200777 who served in 2 Para in the Italy & Greece theatres of war. Correspondence from Mr Elliot’s son, himself an ex 2 para member who served post war states “I have my father’s dagger which he used in WW2. He was in 2 Para under Johnny Frost mainly Scottish lads and I have tried my best to get his war records which unfortunately they wont release to me for some reason. I will be 80 when they release it. I am ex 2 Para myself ”. The correspondence also included 2 copies of period images of Mr Elliot while serving in Italy & Greece during WW2. One image a portrait believed taken in Greece 1944, the other a Platoon group photo titled ‘4th Battalion ‘C’ Coy 10 Platoon Italy 1943’. In the correspondence, regarding the images his son states that the portrait was taken in ‘Greece 1944’ & that Mr Elliot is seated ‘second row top, third in from left’ in the 1943 Italy image. Extracts from email correspondence and copies of the images from the family accompany the knife. This is an excellent WW2 WD 2nd pattern, ‘B2’ FS dagger to WW2 Para Joseph Elliot (B WD arrow marks are identified as a known WW2 stamp on 2nd pattern FS knives, see page 87 of ‘The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives’ by Flook. The dagger has the correct blackened brass knurled handle & oval blackened steel cross guard which is faintly stamped with partially visible ‘Broad Arrow B2’ marks. The knife has a 160 mm long steel blade with medial ridge. The blade has just light staining consistent with age. Its original period scabbard has a brass chape. It has an integral belt loop.
