Victorian Era German Solingen Made Hunting Dagger Spanish Export ‘El Correo Calidad Superior’ With Ebony & Polished Horn Hilt Inlaid With Antique Ivory Studs, Blade Period Inscribed To ‘S. Lawton’, German Silver Mounts & Leather Scabbard. Sn 14623 - 14623 This is an attractive hunting dagger made in the late Victorian era with German made blade, exported for sale by a Spanish retailer. The Bowie has an ebony handle with raised edges inlaid with antique ivory studs. The hilt also has a polished horn ferrule and pommel. The cross guard with additional ferrule are German Silver. It has a sharp, 9 ¼” long single edged blade with fullers. The blade is clean and marked on one side ‘Solingen’ (Germany) above ‘El Correo Calidad Superior’ (translates to: The Superior Quality Mail). The reverse is period inscribed ‘S.Lawton’ most likely the name of the Victorian English Gentleman who owned this piece. The dagger measures 14” overall length. Its original brown leather open top scabbard has a stitched seam, German silver throat mount and German silver chape with ball end. All leather & stitching of the sheath are intact. WW2 Field Conversion U.S Marine Corps USMC KA-BAR Fighting Knife & Leather Scabbard With Integral Belt Loop. (Sn 14588:2 Daggers & Swords) - 14588:2 This is an original WW2 USMC Ka-bar Fighting Knife & Leather Scabbard (see pages 90 & 91 of Cole’s book U.S. Military Knives Book 3). This example has been contemporarily field converted. The conversion has shortened the original handle with compressed leather washers to 4 washers instead of 5 and the original steel pommel replaced by a brass pommel. The converted fighting knife fits the hand well. It’s 7” steel drop point blade has staining and stable areas of pitting consistent with age and service use. The blade has markings ‘KA-BAR’ on one side & ‘USMC’ on the reverse. It measures 11 ¼” overall length. The knife is complete with its original leather scabbard with integral belt loop & single retaining strap and press stud fastener. VERY RARE, WW2 U.S. Military ‘Western Cutlery Co Combat Knife (Fore Runner Of The Famous Ka-Bar USMC Fighting Knife) & Scabbard (Sn 14588:1 Daggers & Swords) - 14588:1 This is an original, very rare, WW2 era Western Cutlery Co USA combat knife (see page 60 Fig No.1 of US Military Knives Book III By Cole). These fighting knives were the fore runner to the famous USMC Ka-Bar fighting knife. It measures 13” in length overall length with correct, steel framed, compressed leather washer hilt, oval steel cross guard and 8” drop point blued blade. The blade is stamped by the manufacturer ‘Western Boulder Colo Pat’d ’. It is in its original correct brown leather scabbard with belt loop and retaining strap with press stud fastener. Early 20th Century, Simbra Industries Argentina Gaucho Cowboy’s Dagger & Alpaca Argentina Scabbard. (Sn 14446 Daggers & Swords) - 14446 Stunning antique facon gaucho knife, small measures collectible piece. Alpacca handle and seath with chiselled with gold filled flowers and small leaves. Seath sealed/markings: ALPACA ARGENTINA. Carbon steel blade with markings/sealed: SIMBRA INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA. Knife. These hunting daggers were used by Argentinian ‘gaucho’ cattle herders / cowboys. The 6 ½” single edged blade has staining consistent with age and it measures 11 ¼” overall length. The back edge of the blade has scalloped decoration. One side of the blade is crisply marked with the manufacturer’s name ‘Simbra’(Simbra Industria Argentina). The plated white metal handle has intricate writhen decoration and a void shield to one side. The dagger is complete with its original plated white metal scabbard with ornate belt bar. The scabbard has foliate, writhen decoration and ornate chape . The mouth of the scabbard is crisply marked ‘Industria Alpaca Argentina’. MASSIVE, English Victorian Coachman's W&S Butcher Sheffield Multi Bladed Folding Knife With Coach Key & Stag Antler Scales . (ED 2211 Daggers & Swords) - ED 2211 The Butcher Brothers William & Samuel were one of the most enterprising of partnerships in Sheffield during the early 19th Century. Primarily tool makers they gained a very high reputation for making quality knives. In 1819 they are recorded as having premises at Eyre Lane, Sheffield. Between 1830 and 1850 the business expanded to Furnival street and into a large tenement type factory known as the ‘Butcher’s Wheel’ (see page 167 of The Sheffield Knife Book by Tweedale). This is a massive Victorian era Coachman’s Multi Bladed Clasp Knife by Butcher Sheffield. The knife has 9 fold out tools and blades including the Hackney Cab Coach door key ( illustrated). The saw blade with screwdriver tip is marked with partially visible manufacturer’s name ‘Butcher Sheffield’. The knife has undamaged Stag antler scales. The frame of the knife has an integral screwdriver tip and slotted into the scales are their original accessories which consist of a steel spike and tweezers. The blades & accessories have staining to be expected with age. With large 4 ½” blade unfolded the knife measures 10” overall length. All blades and tools fold neatly into its steel frame. WW1 1918, U.S. Army Model 1917 Machine Gunner’s Bolo Fighting Knife By A.C. Co Chicago & Scabbard. Sn 14557 - 14557 The model 1917 U.S. Machine Gunner’s bolo knife originated from the form of the Springfield 1903 pattern bolo bayonet, identical to the bayonet but without bayonet fittings (see page 66 plates 316 & 317 of Fighting Knives by Fred Stephens). The hilt is steel with contoured wood grips secured by 2 bolts. It has a contoured flat steel cross guard and heavy 10 ¼” bolo shaped blade ideal for cutting dense foliage and digging machine gun emplacements. The blade has staining consistent with age. The ricasso is stamped on one side ‘AC Co Chicago’ and dated ‘1918’. The reverse has model detail ‘Mod 1917’ and ‘U.S’ (U.S. Army) together with ‘CT’. Its original scabbard is canvas covered wood with reinforced leather chape and brass throat mount. The rear of the scabbard has a brass wire hanging bar. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian Era English Thomas Turner & Co Sheffield ‘Encore’ Bowie Knife With Stag Horn Scales & Leather Sheath. Sn 14445 - 14445 At the end of the 19th century, Thomas Turner was one of the most important cutlery firms in Sheffield. The company was founded in 1802. By 1822, it was listed in a Sheffield directory in Norfolk Street. The company mixed steel and tool manufacture with cutlery, and also operated as a merchant. The owner was Thomas Turner, living at East Bank. After he died on 5 March 1845, aged 61, the business passed to his eldest son, also named Thomas. The latter had been born on 10 January 1829. His brothers, Benjamin Thorne and William Thorne Turner, also became partners. By the 1850s, the company's reputation was secure. In 1851, it won a Prize Medal at the Great Exhibition. Sometimes Turner stamped several slogans on each knife. Aside from the slogans, Turner's used the trade mark "Encore"(granted in 1805). This is a very good Victorian era English ‘Encore’ Bowie by Thos (Thomas) Turner & Co. It has undamaged stag horn scales & German Silver cross guard. It has a 6” single edged, deep swept Bowie blade, marked by the manufacturer ‘Thos Turner & Co Sheffield’ and with ‘Encore’ trademark. It measures 10” overall length. MINT, Hand Made Winchester Skinning Knife With German Solingen Stainless Steel Blade, Stag Horn Handle & Sheath. Sn 14487 - 14487 This is a near mint skinner hand made in Germany for the American arms company Winchester. It has a Stag Horn handle with German silver pommel cap and ribbed ferrule. It has a clean 4" single edged blade with small integral finger guard and measures 8 ¾” overall length. One side of the blade is etched ‘Winchester’ within blued banner above ‘The Original’ and ‘Handmade Stainless Solingen’. Victorian English George Butler & Co Trinity Works Sheffield Bowie Knife With Stag Horn Scales & Leather Sheath. Sn 14444 - 14444 A very good Victorian era English Bowie & Scabbard. It has undamaged stag horn scales & German Silver cross guard. The scales and tang are holed for wrist cord. It has a 4 ¾” single edged, deep swept, Bowie blade, marked by the manufacturer ‘George Butler & Co Trinity Works Sheffield England’ with ‘key’ trademark (George Butler & Co Sheffield C1810-1952, see pages 169-170 of the Sheffield knife Book by Tweedale). Vietnam Period WW2 U.S. Navy MK 2 Fighting Knife By Camillus and Leather Scabbard. ED 2208 - ED 2208 This is an original Vietnam period MK 2 WW2 U.S. Navy Fighting Knife made by Camillus in its scabbard. The grip is constructed of the correct compressed laminated leather washers (see pages 73 to 84 of of ‘US Military Knives by Cole’). It has a steel cross guard and a 7" parkerised bowie blade. The blade is marked "U.S. CAMILLUS" (Camillus Cutlery new York). The pommel is secured by pin.
