Sheffield Made ‘Spratts’ Advertising Pocket Knife. ED 2492 - ED 2492
This is a Sheffield made stag gripped curry comb knife made for Spratts dog foods. The knife was made circa 1918 and was used for dog grooming. Both blades are marked SPRATTS with one having ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ and the other ‘OIL THE JOINTS’. There are several versions made with various teeth types, (see The heritage of English Knives by David Hayden-Wright, page 56 for 2 similar knives). Boxed, C1960’s David Andersen Norway Peer Gynt Kniven Tollekniv Viking Knife With Curly Birch Handle & Open Top Leather Scabbard With Norwegian 925 Sterling Silver Mounts. Sn 17028 - 17028
This is an original, boxed Hunting / Fishing Viking knife made C1960’s by the Norwegian Cutler David Andersen with its original silver mounted scabbard. It is 8 ½” overall length with a sharp, 4” steel drop point blade. The blade is crisply marked by the manufacturer ‘David-Andersen Norway’. The knife has an undamaged solid curly birch wood handle. The hilt has a polished Norwegian silver ferrule. The knife comes with its original open top, black leather scabbard which has a Silver throat mount marked ‘D-A 925S Norway Sterling’ together with Norwegian scales hallmark (illustrated). The throat mount has an integral black leather belt loop. The scabbard has a stitched rear seam and Norwegian silver chape. All leather & stitching of the scabbard are intact. The knife has its original cardboard box, with care instructions and details of the Peer Gynt Kniven history of rural Tollekniv Norwegian knife making. It also describes all fittings of the knife hilt and scabbard as being Norwegian Silver. The felt lined box is contoured to fit the knife and the inside of the lid has gold lettering ‘Peer Gynt Kniven’. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 17028

C1920’s English George Butler & Co Sheffield ‘Key’ Trademark Shooter’s / Sportsman’s Multi Blade / Tool Folding Knife With Shotgun Cartridge Extractor Tool ‘16’ & ‘12’ Bores & German Silver Scales. Sn 16676 - 16676
The English cutlers George Butler & Co Sheffield are recorded C1810-1952. Located at their Trinity Works, the Company used a ‘key’ trademark (see pages 169-170 of the Sheffield knife Book by Tweedale). This is a nice original, British Sheffield made Shooter’s / Sportsman’s Folding Knife. It has a 2” single edged blade, a 3” single edged blade (both very sharp), claw blade, corkscrew, spike, button hook & gimlet. It also has a shotgun cartridge removal tool marked ‘16’ and ‘12’ (shotgun cartridge bores). Some of the blades are stamped by the Sheffield manufacturer 'Butler & Co' with 'key' trademark and ‘Sheffield Art England’. All have staining consistent with age but no damage. It has German Silver scales and lanyard shackle. When closed the knife measures 4 ¾” length (including shackle). The price includes UK delivery. Sn 16676

This is a 2 bladed folding knife by Taylor of Sheffield The main blade is marked REAL KNIFE and their trademark of an eye over WITNESS and both blades are stamped TAYLOR SHEFFIELD .This was one of the trading names of Needham, Veall and Tyzack Limited who operated from the Eye Witness Works, Milton Street, Sheffield. The grips are gouged bone held by 4 rivets. The knife measures 4 5/8” closed and 8 1/4” opened. The blades have just staining consistent with age. Each of the grips have one fine stress crack each due to age but are both secure. The price includes U.K. delivery. ED 2462

This is a good quality stag handled 5 Function Horsemans Knife by Harrison Bros& Howson of Sheffield of 45 Norfolk Street and carries the HARRISON BROS AND HOWSON monogram on one of the blades. The firm came into existence in1847 and thrived during the Victorian period but went into decline after WW1 and was sold to Viners in 1959. Harrisons were considered to be one of the top 6 Sheffield cutlery makers and in 1911 were employing around 600 workers. The knife carries a blank silver cartouche to one grip and has wear and tear commensurate with its age. Each of the grips have one fine stress crack each due to age but are both secure. This is a good quality stag handled 5 Function Horsemans Knife by William Whiteley Of Sheffield of 29 Rockingham Street and carries W. WHITELEY and his trademark of 332 on one of the blades. Whitleys was founded in 1760 and is still going strong as the last industrial scissor makers in the U.K. and the oldest scissor smiths in the western world. During the Victorian period, they also made pocket knives but only in small quantities making this a rare item. Victorian 5 Function Horsemans Knife by Lockwood Brothers Of Sheffield ED 2453 This is a good quality stag handled horsemans knife with 2 blades and 3 tools by Lockwood brothers of Sheffield. One blade caries the C+X over Lockwood Brothers of Sheffield trade mark and the other the same trade mark plus “REAL KNIFE” AND A RUNNING OSTRICH OVER PAMPA. THIS WAS AN INDICATION OF Lockwoods South American market. The firm could trace its roots back to 1767 but by 1933 it had disappeared from local directories. The knife measures 4 inches long with an opened length of 6 ¼ inches. One of the grips is chipped as shown in the images but is secure. This knife carries a blank silver shield to one grip and has wear and tear commensurate with its age. The price includes U.K. delivery. ED 2453

Victorian Era Galles Christiania, Finnish Form, Puukko Hunting / Fishing Knife With Scrimshaw Etched Polished Bone Hilt German Silver Mounts & Tooled Open Top Leather Scabbard With German Silver Mounts. Sn 15908:1 - 15908:1
A Puukko (Finnish pronunciation: [puH0;kH0;o]) is a small traditional Finnish general purpose belt knife ideal for hunting & fishing with a single curved cutting edge, solid hidden tang and, usually, a flat back. This Victorian era Puuko form knife and scabbard are in excellent condition. It is 7 ¾” overall with a sharp 3 ½” steel drop point blade. The blade has just light staining consistent with age. The top and bottom edges of the ricasso are notched. The knife has a solid barrel shaped polished bone handle with superb scrimshaw foliate etching all around. The hilt has a German silver ferrule & pommel cap with nut securing the full tang. The pommel cap has a period stylised engraved monogram which appears to be ‘H.F’ most likely the initials of the original owner of the knife. The knife comes with its original open top, brown leather scabbard which has German silver frame and single steel hanging ring. The ball end chape of the frame has engraved foliate decoration. The leather has tooled foliate panel decoration on the front aspect. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 15908:1
