Throughout the 1970’s and 1990’s the famous Sheffield cutlers J.E. Middleton & his sons Ron & Roy specialised in producing quality classic English & American design Bowies at their Rockingham Street, Sheffield premises. This is a near mint, scarce pattern Middleton knife. It has a pristine 7” polished steel spear point dagger blade with medial ridge. The knife measures 11 ½” overall length. The blade is stamped ‘J.E Middleton & Sons Rockingham Street Sheffield’. It has a brass coloured finger guard. The brass coloured hilt has an ornate feather designed pommel. It is complete with its brown leather open top scabbard with brass riveted belt loop. Post WWII Private Purchase U.S. Military Fighting Knife & Sheath. 8424:35. - 8424:35
An American Post WW2 private purchase Military Fighting Knife. (see page 120 item 609 of Fighting Knives By Stephens). This knife by an unknown manufacturerer has black synthetic grips secured to the tang by 3 rivets. The ferrule and cross guard are made of brass. This rugged knife has a 6" Bowie type blade which is clean and 11 ½ “wide. It measures 12" overall and is complete with a later proffesionally made scabbard made of thick black leather. A Victorian cutlery handled, spear pointed Bowie knife "Battle Axe" trade marked and complete with original brown leather scabbard. The knife has a typical victorian era polished steel cutlery handle decorated with ornate scrolls. It has a thin steel, oval shaped crossguard. The blade is polished steel with a single edge and 'spear pointed'. The blade measures 6 ½ " and the knife measures 11 ½ " overall. The blade is 1 ¼ " wide. The blade has the trade mark "Battle Axe" stamped into one side of the blade as can be seen in one of the photographs. The knife is in excellent condition. *Rare* Italian Fighting Knife ‘Assaltatori' Assault Troops (FAT 58). ED 2668. - ED 2668
This is a rare and interesting Italian fighting knife better known as pugnale da assaltatori 58 San Marco, alluding to a famous elite unit that used it. .This is the model 1958 knife for assault troops. It bears much resemblance with both the Italian WWII fighting knives and Mannlicher-Carcano bayonets. The blade was made in 1958 in the army factory in Torino. The blade and wooden grips are in very good condition. The grips are held with two screw bolts and have the number ‘20’ painted to one side. The pommel has ‘15810’ crisply imprinted to it. This WWII wooden gripped combat knife was made by ‘Whittingslowe’ (William Whittingslowe arrived in Australia in about 1912. After working in various states he settled in South Australia and in the 1920's set up his own business, Whittingslowe Engineering specialises in ironworking and knife manufacturing. His firm produced a large amount of blade ware during World War 2. He also designed and built manufacturing equipment for General Motors Holden). The company trademark is on the ricasso. The blade length is: 15cm (28cm overall) and appears to have been re sharpened. The wooden grips are held with three pins and are in relatively good condition, only showing minor signs of wear. The thick dark brown leather sheath has a good aged patina; all of the stitching is intact. There is an integral belt loop with a press studded holder *showing signs of age related wear. A development of the WW2 FS knife was the Applegate Fairburn fighting knife, designed by Col. Rex Applegate (United States OSS) and Capt. W.E Fairbairn (British Royal Marines). These knives were initially made by the USA firm Yancey Estes Park Colorado and a few years later by AL MAR Japan and Boker Germany. This is an early production Yancey Applegate FS combat knife. It has the correct black Lexan plastic handle, oval in section and grooved for grip. The handle is holed for wrist cord. The brass guard is angled away from the handle and stamped number ‘26’ also indicating early production. It has a clean 6 ¼” steel blade with a makers mark on one side ‘Yancey Estes Park Colo’ & has the etched facsimile signatures of both Applegate and Fairbairn on it. The other side is etched ‘AF’ (Applegate Fairbairn). The knife is razor sharp & has its original black leather scabbard with Velcro fastening retaining strap and belt loop. The rear has a steel belt or boot clip. The rear of the belt loop is impressed with USA Texas star within the star is ‘Tex Shoemaker & Sons’. The scabbard has brass ringed holes for lanyard cords. WW2 Australian Wood Gripped Fighting Knife By East Bros. Sydney. Sn 11617. - 11617
A WW2 Australian wood gripped fighting knife by East Brothers, Sydney which are one of 4 known makers of these knives. This version of the Australian fighting knife was used by the Australians and also made under contact for the US Forces based in Australia during WW2. The knife has contemporary personalised dark wood grips secured with three steel rivets. The slab gips have a hand carved initial on one side "H W" and also the official Australian inspection mark of ‘EW’. It has a thin steel straight cross guard *slight movement*. The blade is a single edged spear-point blade which is in good condition. The ricasso is stamped on one side with "East Bros. Sydney". The blade measures 6" long, 11 ¼ " overall. This is a top quality bowie knife by the premier Sheffield knife maker William Rodgers. It is clearly marked on one side of the blade with "William Rodgers Sheffield, England". The grips are black ebony, chequered and held in place by one pin. The polished blade measures 4 ¾ " long. The scabbard is top quality black leather with a belt loop riveted to the back. These knives were often carried by officers in WW1. (See 'The Sheffield Knife Book' by Geoffrey Tweedale page 257-265 and Ron Flooks ' British & Commonwealth Military Knives' pages 23, plate 29 for a WW1 knife of a similar style with a knuckleduster). An 'Unknown Origin' (Possibly Italian) heavy fighting knife in a later scabbard. The Fighting knife has a one piece light wood smooth grip, the blade is secured with two bolts. It has a straight guard and polished steel double edged blade. The blade measures 7 ¼ " long and 1" wide at its widest point. This is a heavy duty fighting knife. The scabbard is later, and made of tan leather, it fits the knife perfectly and has a securing loop fastened with a brass press stud. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 8424:49.
