**RARE**WW2 Australian WD & USAF Air Crew Jungle Survival Machete/ Fighting Knife With Alloy Handle & Steel Blade By East Brothers Sydney Australia & Correct Original WD 1944 Leather Scabbard By Goldseal Sydney With Straps For Leg & Belt Carry. Sn 20591 - 20591
Australia produced many Military Knives and Machetes during WW2. These examples were issued to Australian and U.S. Air Force Aircrew for use as Jungle Survival Machete/ Fighting Knives ( see pages 163 to 164 and illustrated plates 384 & 385 of British & Commonwealth Military Knives By Flook). This is an excellent original example. It measures 13” overall with an 8 ¼” single edged, heavy steel machete blade which is 1 ½” wide. One side of the blade is crisply stamped ‘East Bros Sydney’. Its alloy handle scales are secured by brass rivets. One scale is stamped ‘HN’ below WD arrow. It is complete with correct original leather scabbard with integral belt loop & straps with buckle configured for leg carry (the top strap buckle and part of the leather strap is absent). The scabbard has a single retaining strap with single brass stud fastener. The belt loop is impressed by the manufacturer 'Goldseal Sydney’ & dated '1944'. WW2 1945 British Gurkha India Government ‘IC’ Marked Kukri & Scabbard With Frog. ED 2312 - ED 2312
This is an original British India Arsenal made Gurkha Military Kukri. It has a 12 ¼” inch single edged fullered Kukri blade & measures 16 ¾” overall. The wood handle with raised central band has a steel pommel plate. The blade has the correct notch near to the hilt. The blade is stamped '45' (1945 date with double struck number 4) and ‘IC’ (India Government mark). There are also other indistinct inspection marks including number ‘7’ on the spine. It comes with its original leather covered wood scabbard. The scabbard is fitted with original laced frog which has 2 belt loops. some small areas of leather of the scabbard are absent near to the throat. This is an original Inter World War German Hunter’s Skinning Knife & Scabbard. The knife has a solid bone hilt with ribbed German silver pommel cap with flat top and ribbed ferrule. It has a clean 3 ½” single edged blade (7 ¾” overall). The blade is etched 'Rostfrei' (an early form of stain resistant / stainless steel). **RARE**WW2 Era MK 1 British Army In India /Chindit Paratroopers Fighting Knife & Scabbard With Period Leather Frog. Sn 20576 - 20576
These wood gripped combat knives have over the years gained the designation of paratrooper knives but it is not known if they were specifically made for issue to such troops. Several variations are known, all of which have double edged blades with central fuller, square shank ricasso, oval cross guard and wood grips cut with 3 grooves and secured by 2 steel rivets (see page 203 and plates 490 & 491 of Ron Flook’s book British & Commonwealth Military Knives where knives similar to ours with scabbards similar to ours are illustrated, also the front cover of his book where a similar knife to ours is illustrated (images from the author’s book are reproduced in our images). This is an original WW2 British Army In India / Chindit Paratroopers fighting knife. The knife has the correct double edged blade (6 ½” length, 10 ½” overall) with central fuller, square shank ricasso, oval brass cross guard and wood grips cut with 3 grooves and secured by 2 steel rivets. The blade is fitted with original leather hilt washer. Ron Flook describes these knives as being made by various companies including ‘MIL- Metal Industries Ltd & ATD- Army Traders Dhuran’ (see page 204 of his book). The blade has staining & patina consistent with age and service use and there are no visible date or maker marks. This example is complete with its original leather scabbard with steel throat mount which has a frog locket and external steel chape. The leather has a stitched rear seam. The scabbard is fitted with an original period leather frog which has a single belt loop. The rear of the belt loop has a period field repair which can be seen in the images. David North of Killamarsh Sheffield is a manufacturer of quality knives. This impressive, large, hand tooled Bowie was made by David North. The polished steel, Spear Point Bowie blade is 8 ¼” long and 1 ¼” broad. The knife measures a massive 13” overall length. The ricasso is crisply stamped 'David North Sheffield England'. The knife has a brass finger guard with scalloped edge, brass grip frame with curved pommel. It has polished Buffalo horn scales which have no chips or cracks. WWII Nepalese Gurkhas ‘Kukri’ with Leather frog, Sheath & Skinner. ED 2432. - ED 2432
The Kukri, traditional weapon of the Gurkhas of Nepal, who served the British Empire faithfully during both world wars, and continue to show their loyalties to this day. During the wars machine manufactured examples were produced to equip the volunteers from Nepal who flocked to the colours. This example has a blade length of 34 cm – 45 cm overall. The blade has no markings and showing signs of service wear *see images*. The hardwood handle is top and tailed with brass coloured metal. The leather scabbard has a brass coloured chape, leather frog and is accompanied by one of its original skinners. See page 73 item No 359 of Fighting Knives by Frederick J. Stephens for similar. Inter World War German Trench Dagger/Knife By Eickhorn, Solingen & Scabbard With Integral Frog/ Belt Loop. Sn 11046 - 11046
This is a German trench dagger/fighting knife. These daggers were made during the Inter War years by Eickhorn Solingen in the form of WW1 Imperial German Trench Daggers which were modelled on period German Army dress bayonets. (see page 37 Item 151 of Fred Stephens book Fighting Knives). This example is 10 ¼” overall with a 5 ¼”steel blade. It has an Eagle's head pommel (WW1 versions had functioning false bayonet button which forms the Eagles eye. Inter War versions as with this example have plain pommels without button). The grips are chequered hard rubber secured with two rivets. It has a short up-swept quillon cross guard. The blade has no manufacturer marks but this dagger is typical of those made by Eickhorn. This is a very well made and substantial trench dagger. It comes with its original metal scabbard which retains most of its original black paint. **BURMA BRING BACK**WW2 British Soldier’s Kukri With 2 Skinners & Scabbard With Hand Tooled Decoration ‘Burma India Assam D. McKenzie Royal Engineers King George VI Regimental Badge’ . ED 2574. - ED 2574
This is an original WW2 British Royal Engineers Kukri brought home from Burma after WW2. The weapon is 15 ¾” overall length. The tropical hard wood handle has hand tooled foliate decoration in the midsection. The curved 12” blade has the distinctive Kukri ‘notch’. The blade is sharp & undamaged and has staining consistent with age. The blade has no maker or date marks. The scabbard made of wood is covered in leather. It has 2 slots for the skinners at the throat. The skinner’s blades are both 2 ¼” length and are typically curved. One of the blades is un-sharpened. Both skinners have polished horn handles. The scabbard has a single belt loop. The scabbard has profuse hand tooled decoration consisting of the words ‘Burma, India & Assam ( a state in north eastern India),together with the name ‘D. McKenzie’ below the Royal Engineers King George VI Regimental Badge and foliate decoration (There were several Royal Engineers with the name D. McKenzie who served in the Burma Theatre of war during WW2 :source Forces War Records). The leather has just surface wear to be expected with age and service use. **MINT****BRITISH WARTIME STOCK POST WAR 1950’s EXPORT TO USA FOR ISSUE TO AIRBORNE & RANGERS**WW2 Era British WD 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife Cross Guard Stamped ‘B2’ over ‘England’ & England Marked Scabbard. Sn 20444:12 - 20444:12
2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941 (see page 89-93 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This is an original, near mint, British made WW2 2nd pattern, FS dagger and scabbard in excellent condition. The hilt is blackened brass with knurled grip and a blued steel oval cross guard. The cross guard is faintly stamped ‘B2’ with crisp ‘WD arrow’ (a British FS designation) over ‘England’ indicating export to USA for Airborne & Ranger issue post WW2 in the 1950’s from wartime stock (see page 213 of Flook’s book where he describes an FS dagger with cross guard stamped ‘England’ as being a USA 1950’s export item from British war time stock). It has a 173 mm long double edged blued blade with medial ridge. The knife has its original scabbard with external blackened chape. The scabbard retains its original 4 sewn on leather tabs and as is common its elastic retaining strap is absent. The belt loop has ‘England’ double stamped. The price includes UK delivery. **UNUSUAL**Late Victorian Era ‘J. Sainsbury Ltd’ (London) Spear Point Bowie Knife With Quality Made Later Scabbard. ED 2214 - ED 2214
This late Victorian form Bowie has undamaged thick walnut scales secured by brass pins, the edge of one scale is scalloped for grip. It has a heavy brass finger guard sections and pommel cap sections secured by brass pins. The Bowie has a 7 ¾” long single edged spear point form blade. It measures 12 ½” overall length. The blade has some staining and has aged patina. Unusually one side of the blade is faintly marked ‘J. Sainsbury Ltd’. We cannot find any reference to a knife maker named Sainsbury but it may be that in the early days of Sainsbury’s the British Supermarket, the founder John Sainsbury may have retailed this type of knife (J. Sainsbury plc, trading as Sainsbury's, is the second largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1869 by John Sainsbury with a shop in Drury Lane, London, the company was the largest UK retailer of groceries for most of the 20th century). The later quality made open top scabbard is leather and has a single belt loop. All leather and stitching of the scabbard are clean and intact.
