WW1 Era German Philipp Schmid Nurnberg Trench/Fighting Knife With Stag Antler Scales & Scabbard. Sn 21465 - 21465 This is an excellent original WW1 era German trench / fighting knife and leather scabbard. The knife has excellent undamaged solid Stag antler scales each secured by 3 steel pins (see page 38 item 162 of Stephen's book 'Fighting Knives' where a similar un-named variant made pre WW1 is illustrated). The dagger is full tang with integral small finger guard. The single edged steel blade is 5” length. The undamaged blade has some areas of light staining consistent with age. The blade is crisply marked on one side by the manufacturer or retailer ‘Philipp Schmid Nurnberg’. It is just under 10” overall length. French Model 1833 Naval Boarding Dirk / Fighting Knife With Naval Anchor & Other Inspection Marks, Triangular Section Blade & Scabbard. Sn 21464 - 21464 These dirks were carried by French Navy boarding parties when attacking enemy ships. They were normally carried as a back up to a cutlass, axe or pike. Many of these weapons found their way into the Union and Confederate Navies before the outbreak of the American Civil War. Our example of the M 1833 dirk is in excellent condition. It has the correct, clean, 6 ¾” triangular section blade. The blade has a small inspection mark (illustrated). Its wood handle has no damage and correct pommel nut with fixed lanyard ring. The brass finger guard has crisp Naval ‘anchor’ and other inspection marks (all illustrated). The dirk is contained in its triangular form steel scabbard with brass chape The throat of the scabbard has a leather tab with eyelet for belt or uniform attachment. The price includes UK delivery. British Wostenholm Sheffield IXL Custom Hand Made Hunting / Skinning Knife With Stag Horn Scales & Leather Scabbard. ED 2503. - ED 2503 Along with Joseph Rodgers, George Wostenholm is possibly the most famous name in Sheffield cutlery. Geo Wostenholm’s first knife making works were established in 1785. The Wostenholm business now forms part of the Egginton Group, Sheffield. This is an excellent Custom Hand Made Hunting / Skinning Knife by Wostenholm. It has Stag Horn scales with ornate tooled brass finger guard and pommel bolsters. One finger guard bolster is marked ‘Wostenholm IXL Sheffield England’, the other ‘Made In Sheffield’ both within foliate tooled decoration. It has a clean 4" single edged blade which is razor sharp and measures 8 ¼” overall length. The dagger is complete with original brown leather open top scabbard with rear belt loop. **NEW TO MARKET DIRECT FROM FAMILY OF WW2 PARA JOSEPH ELLIOT**WW2 British 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife & Scabbard With Provenance & Sepia Copies Of Original WW2 Photos Of The Soldier In Theatre. Sn 21429 - 21429 This is an original WW2 2nd Pattern FS fighting knife, new to the market, recently acquired direct from the family of WW2 veteran Joseph Elliot service number APV000200777 who served in 2 Para in the Italy & Greece theatres of war. Correspondence from Mr Elliot’s son, himself an ex 2 para member who served post war states “I have my father’s dagger which he used in WW2. He was in 2 Para under Johnny Frost mainly Scottish lads and I have tried my best to get his war records which unfortunately they wont release to me for some reason. I will be 80 when they release it. I am ex 2 Para myself ”. The correspondence also included 2 copies of period images of Mr Elliot while serving in Italy & Greece during WW2. One image a portrait believed taken in Greece 1944, the other a Platoon group photo titled ‘4th Battalion ‘C’ Coy 10 Platoon Italy 1943’. In the correspondence, regarding the images his son states that the portrait was taken in ‘Greece 1944’ & that Mr Elliot is seated ‘second row top, third in from left’ in the 1943 Italy image. Extracts from email correspondence and copies of the images from the family accompany the knife. This is an excellent WW2 WD 2nd pattern, ‘B2’ FS dagger to WW2 Para Joseph Elliot (B WD arrow marks are identified as a known WW2 stamp on 2nd pattern FS knives, see page 87 of ‘The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives’ by Flook. The dagger has the correct blackened brass knurled handle & oval blackened steel cross guard which is faintly stamped with partially visible ‘Broad Arrow B2’ marks. The knife has a 160 mm long steel blade with medial ridge. The blade has just light staining consistent with age. Its original period scabbard has a brass chape. It has an integral belt loop. WW2, U.S Cattaraugus 225Q ' Quartermasters' Fighting Utility Knife And Sheath. ED 886. - ED 886 During WW2 Quartermaster staff needed a heavy duty combat knife which was strong enough to open ammunition boxes and crates. The American Company Cattaraugus produced the 225Q (Q for Quartermaster), which because of their strength, soon found their way into regular service as a combat knife ( see page 67 Of U.S Military Knives By Cole & page 123 of US Military Knives Collectors Guide By Silvey & Boyd). This is a nice original example. It has a sturdy, broad single edged fullered 6 1/4" blade (10 ½” inches overall). The ricasso is crisply engraved with the 'Cattaraugus' signature legend and designation '225Q'. The blade has some areas of staining consistent with age. Its banded handle made from compressed leather washers is in good condition with just service wear to be expected. It has a steel finger guard and large oval steel pommel with flat chequered end. SOLD SOLD (28/10) WW2 British 3rd Pattern Commando Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With No.1 Mould Mark & Quality Period Custom Made Scabbard. ED 2656 - ED 2656 A very good original WW2 3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. The 3rd pattern knife was introduced in 1942 (see Chapter 8 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This example has an undamaged ribbed alloy handle which retains much of its blackened finish and a 163mm blued steel blade with medial ridge. The clean blade is sharp. It has a number 1 mould mark on the ribbed 3rd pattern alloy handle and has a blued steel cross guard. The dagger is complete with quality period custom made leather scabbard. The thick leather hide scabbard’s long belt loop has stitched on webbing reinforcement bands. Victorian Era Colquhoun & Cadman Sheffield ‘Go Ahead’ Trademark Bowie Knife With Stag Antler Scales & Original Leather Scabbard. Sn 21420 - 21420 Edward Dewing Colquhoun ( 1833-1907) & Edwin Cadman (1856-1937) were Sheffield cutlers based at the Douglas Works 113 Arundel Street making knives, joiner’s tools, razors and ice skates. The partnership created their ‘Go Ahead’ trademark which would be sold to Thomas Ellin & Co shortly before Colquhoun’s death in 1907(see page 161 of Tweedale’s Directory Of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers Expanded 2nd Edition). This is a nice original Victorian ‘Go Ahead’ trademark Bowie by Colquhoun & Cadman with original Scabbard. It has undamaged stag antler scales secured by steel pins. One scale is mounted with a void German silver bar and it has an oval German silver cross guard. It has a 7” single edged, steel bowie blade, signed by the makers ‘Colquhoun & Cadman Sheffield’ together with their ‘Go Ahead’ Trademark. The Bowie measures just under 11 ½” overall length. Its original open top brown leather scabbard has a single copper riveted belt loop to the rear and stitched seam to the front. Victorian Joseph Rodgers & Sons 6 Norfolk Street, Sheffield ‘Hunting Knife’ Folding Bowie With Polished Horn Scales, German Silver Fittings & Later Quality Bespoke Made Scabbard. Sn 21297 - 21297 Joseph Rodgers & Sons were first established as cutlers at ‘Holy Croft’ Sheffield C1724. By 1780 the firm was firmly established and well known for making quality knives. Having outgrown their Holy Croft premises moved to what was to become their worldwide famous address 6 Norfolk Street Sheffield. Originally making small edged weapons the Company moved into manufacture of large Bowies when American & British Empire markets expanded in the Victorian era (see pages 522-530 of Tweedale’s Directory Of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers Expanded 2nd Edition). This is an excellent Victorian era Bowie made at Rodgers & Sons 6 Norfolk Street premises. The 7” long, steel blade with medial ridge has polished horn scales secured by steel pins. It has German silver bolsters at the pommel and at the cross guard. The lower bolsters are ribbed and engraved ‘No6’ (Norfolk Street). It has a swivelling brass finger guard consisting of 2 plates secured to the blade shank by a single brass pin allowing movement of the cross guard as normally found on folding Bowies. The blade, on one side is marked crisply at the ricasso, 'No 6 Sheffield, Steel' and near to the spine ‘HUNTING KNIFE’. The reverse is stamped with Rodgers Maltese type cross trade marks. The blade has just light age related staining. The blade is released for closing by depression of a bar on the spine of the hilt. Open the knife is 12 ½” overall length, closed 8 ½”. Its later quality made brown leather scabbard has a full flap cover with eyelet that fastens to a brass lug on the front of the scabbard. To the rear it has a single riveted belt loop. **LARGE** Victorian / Edwardian American Wild West Era / African Export Piece S&J Kitchin Sheffield ‘Snake Brand’ Hunting Knife With Polished Horn Scales Inset With Brass Hunting Scenes & Later Bespoke Leather Scabbard. Sn 21296 - 21296 The "Snake Brand" trademark on cutlery was registered to Samuel Kitchin of Sheffield at least as early as the 1860's. The Kitchin family settled in Shefield around 1737 (see page 219 of the Sheffield Knife Book by Tweedale). The founder Samuel was regularly listed as a cutler in Sheffield directories. By 1868 he had been joined by John (possibly son) at the Soho works in Summerfield Street. In the early 20th century the Company exported knives to Wild West USA and Africa (marketing to African tribesmen). This is an excellent original large S&J Kitchin Sheffield ‘Snake Brand’ hunting knife no doubt an export piece for the American or African market. The full tang knife has a 14” long single edged steel blade which is 2” broad at its widest and it measures 19” overall length. The blade has just light staining consistent with age and no damage to the cutting edge. One side of the blade has Kitchin’s ‘Snake Brand’ trademark. The knife has polished horn scales, each inset with brass hunting scene figures depicting a Stag being chased by hunting dogs and mounted riders. The scales are secured by brass pins. The knife is contained in its later quality made bespoke open top leather scabbard. The leather has tooled decoration to the front and a single belt loop to the rear. WW2 Production Nazi German 1933 Pattern NSKK Dagger By RZM M7 / 33 (F W. Holler, Solingen), Motto Etched Blade & Scabbard With Belt Hanger. Sn 21419 - 21419 This is an original Wartime Nazi production 1933 pattern NSKK dagger and scabbard in excellent condition. The blade is crisply stamped with the wartime Nazi production code RZM M7 / 33 (F W. Holler, Solingen). Holler made approximately 1,000 early production daggers which are rated as rarity value 7 (10 being highest rarity value) in the book ‘The service daggers of the SA & The NSKK’ by Siegert. Holler continued to produce SA/ NSKK daggers after 1940 when only their RZM code is found on blades produced by the company. The lack of manufacturer’s own civilian trademark indicates that this is a Nazi wartime production dagger. The wood grip is original and undamaged. The Nazi German National Emblem and 'SA' roundel are perfectly fitted. It has a Nickel plated cross guard & pommel. The blade has the correct crisp "Alles Fur Deutschland" motto inscription. The dagger is complete with its original NSKK black anodised metal scabbard. The scabbard has a single hanging ring, nickel plated chape and throat mount. The ring is fitted with original leather tab belt hanger. It has its original nickel plated buckle & nickel plated sprung clip.
