WW2 British 3rd Pattern Commando Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With No.4 Mould Mark & Scabbard. Sn 21572:4 - 21572:4
An excellent original WW2 3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. The 3rd pattern knife was introduced in 1942 (see Chapter 8 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). This example has an undamaged ribbed alloy handle which retains its original blackened finish and a 166mm blued steel blade with medial ridge. The blade is sharp. It has a number 4 mould mark on the ribbed 3rd pattern alloy hilt. The dagger is complete with correct original leather scabbard in nice condition with external blackened brass chape and belt loop. The scabbard retains its elastic retaining strap and as is common its original 4 sewn on leather tabs have been cut back in the period. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 21572:4

**RARE**WW2 American Or Canadian Soldier’s Private Purchase 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife By Wilkinson Sword With Double Etched Panels & Banner To ‘H.Tinfun 1942’ & Scabbard. Sn 21558 - 21558
2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. Examples with etched blades are illustrated in Chapter 7 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook. American & Canadian special forces soldiers & Officers bought FS fighting knives as private purchase weapons. Examples of named, etched blades are illustrated on pages 96 & 97 of Flook’s book. This example has a knurled 2nd pattern brass hilt and oval steel cross guard. It has an undamaged 163mm blade with medial ridge & etched panels. One side ‘Wilkinson Sword London’ with crossed swords legend. The reverse ‘The FS Fighting Knife’. One side of the blade has an etched & blued scrolling banner with name & date ‘H.Tinfun 1942’ no doubt the Soldier or Officer who commissioned this knife. The etchings have some areas of rubbing consistent with age. The dagger is complete with original leather scabbard with blackened external chape and single belt loop. It retains its 4 sewn on leather tabs and elasticated retaining strap. All leather & stitching are intact. WW2 Era British WD Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife Beaded & Ribbed (9 Rows Of Beads) & Scabbard. Sn 21599 - 21599
The Beaded & Ribbed variant of the Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting knife was available as a private purchase weapon but were also Military issue. Beaded & Ribbed versions have been found with 9,8,7 & 6 rows of beads (see page 127 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives by Ron Flook). This WW2 era WD marked Beaded and Ribbed Pattern Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife has a brass beaded and ribbed grip with 9 rows of beads. The cross guard is stamped with WD arrow indicating military issue. It has a 176mm long blade with medial ridge. The blackened blade has just light staining to be expected. It is complete with original scabbard with external brass chape. As is common, the scabbard’s 4 original sewn on leather tabs have been period cut back and its original elasticated retaining strap on the belt loop is absent. The price includes UK delivery. WW2 U.S.M.C. Collins & Co Legitimus No.18 V-44 Combat / Survival Bowie Knife With Polished Horn Scales & Scabbard. Sn 21080 - 21080
An original WW2 United States V-44 Legitimus Combat and Survival Bowie knife by Collins & Co (see page 67 of Stephen’s book ‘Fighting Knives ‘ and plate 322 which illustrates a Collins & Co Legitimus No.18 mark the same as our example). Officially a survival knife the U.S. Marine Corps used them as a fighting knife against the Japanese. It is a large knife measuring 14” overall length and with polished horn scales secured by 5 brass rivets. The top edge of one side of each scale have an old stable chip but are totally secure. It has a brass cross guard with rounded finials. The Bowie type blade is 9 ¼” length with drop point and twin fullers. The blade has light staining consistent with age & the cutting edge is sharp with a few small old nibbles. The blade is marked with manufacturer’s mark ‘Collins & Co, Crown & trademark, Legitimus Made In USA No.18’. It is accompanied by its open top brown leather scabbard with rear riveted belt loop. WWI German Trench Knife and Metal Scabbard by Manufacturer Clement & Jung. 8424:45. - 8424:45
An original WWI German Trench Knife and Metal Scabbard (A trench knife is a combat knife designed to kill or incapacitate an enemy at close quarters, such as in a trench or other confined area. It was developed as a close combat weapon for soldiers attacking enemy trenches during the First World War. An example of a World War I trench knife is the German Army's Nahkampfmesser (close combat knife). This is a smooth handle variant. The smooth wooden grips are secured with three rivets *service wear to the tip on both sides*. The single edged, polished steel blade measures 5 ½" and has a "Z" inside a crest indicating manufacture by Clement & Jung stamped on the ricasso on one side, and an inspection stamp to the other. The scabbard is steel and is missing its leather strap which was riveted to it and incorporated a belt loop. The price includes UK delivery. 8424:45.

A nice original WWI German trench/fighting knife and steel scabbard. The knife is a hunting style variant and features a carved wood simulated stag-horn hilt (see page 40, plate 177 of Steven's book 'Fighting Knives'). The dagger has a German silver pommel cap, ribbed ferrule and 'wave' cross guard. The hilt is one piece, carved wood to simulate stag-horn. The blade is 6" in length, double edged with a medial ridge. The blade has some areas of light staining consistent with age. It is 11" overall. This is a Coffin Handle American Frontier Era, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife most likely made in England by the Sheffield cutlery trade for export to the USA for the expanding American Frontier market. This type of flat profile knife were ideal for belt carry. Crude but practical it has a slim 8” long Bowie blade which is 4mm thick and 1” wide at its broadest. The knife is 13 ½” overall length. This example has all the patina age and construction of a Frontier Bowie made in the early to mid 1800’s. This Bowie has a polished horn coffin handle secured by steel pins and brass finger guard. The blade has light staining consistent with age and is sharp with no damage or nicks to the cutting edge. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks on the knife. These knives are often found without scabbards, unusually our Bowie has its original leather open top scabbard which has a brass throat mount. **BROAD & STURDY**Victorian C1840 English Sheffield Trade Coffin Handle American Frontiersman, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife. Sn 21526 - 21526
This is a Coffin Handle American Frontier Era, Expedition Fighting / Utility Knife most likely made in England by the Sheffield cutlery trade for export to the USA for the expanding American Frontier market. This type of knife were used by Pioneer Wagon Train Drivers & Riders and Hunters / Fighters in the wars against Native American Indians. Crude but large and practical it has a heavy 7 ¼” long single edged blade which is 5mm thick and 2 ½” wide at its broadest. The knife is 12 ¾” overall length. This example has all the patina age and construction of a Frontier Bowie made in the early to mid 1800’s. This substantial piece has an ebonised wood coffin handle secured around the edges by steel pins and heavy steel finger guard the underside of which has punch dot decoration. The blade has staining consistent with age and is sharp with no damage or nicks to the cutting edge. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks on the knife. The weight and size of this piece would have made it very useful for Frontiersmen as a fighting knife or hunting knife. As is typical of this type of knife it is without scabbard. This is a rare, original, Nazi era Diver's knife and scabbard as used by Kriegsmarine divers in excellent condition. Made by J.A. Henckels the famous Solingen cutler, the knife has a broad 7 ½” long single edged blade with drop point & measures 13 ½” overall. The clean blade has the German manufacturer’s trademark which belongs to J.A. Henckels. It has a heavy brass hilt ribbed for grip and integral threaded brass ferrule which securely screws into the throat of its scabbard. The knife is complete with original solid brass scabbard with integral cast belt bar. The tube shaped brass scabbard is undamaged with no dents. This is an excellent original Model 1880 Naval Officer’s Dirk / Marine Ponjaard & Scabbard. It has a 9 ½” dagger blade with medial ridge and measures 13 ¾” overall. The blade is undamaged and has just light staining to be expected with age. Both sides of the blade have lightly etched decoration with marine fouled anchor device & the makers names ‘W. Vervloet S.Gravenhage’ within a foliate panel. It has a brass cross guard with finials and cast anchor decoration on one side. The cross guard is numbered ‘200’. It has a brass pommel cap, Marine Ivory hilt with grooved decoration. The dirk is complete with leather bound wood scabbard with brass mounts & 2 brass hanging rings. The price includes UK delivery.
