Book No1: ‘The Schmeisser Sub Machine Gun’ from the classic weapon series by Chris Ellis & Peter Chamberlain. Superiority of fire power for the infantryman was pursued with great vigour by the leading military powers in the latter part of the 19th Century and the years leading up to WWI. Efforts were mainly concentrated on the rifle, the personal weapon of rank and file infantry, for set piece battles were still taking place up to the end of the 19th Century.
