Four books about WW1 Flying. The first being 'Fighter Aircraft of the 1914-1918 War' compiled by W. M. Lamberton. This is a HarleyFord Publication published in 1960. This has a stunning array of photographs and drawings which Harleyford excelled at. The second book, 'Reconnaissance & Bomber Aircraft Of The 1914-1918 War' compiled by W.M. Lamberton. Again a Harleyford publication. Published in 1962. Both of the above books are hardback linen covered books and are in good condition. Both measuring 11 1/4" x 9". The third book, 'A Contemptible Little Flying Corps.' by I. Mc Innes and J.V. Webb. Published in 1991. The book is a comprehensive record of all NCO's and other ranks who were serving at the outbreak of WW1 with a mini biography and medal entitlement for each man. This is fully illustrated and is complete with it's original dust cover in excellent condition. Lastly 'The Pour Le Merite & Germany's First Aces' by John R. Angolia and Clint R. Hackney. This is a first edition dated 1984, one of 500 copies signed by the author and numbered. (this one being 427). The pour Le Merite was the highest award for Germany's WW1 Airmen and this book covers all known recipients with a 'potted history' and photograph for each one. 1930's Official Regimental Photograph Album, A Field Service Cap & A Cigarette Case All to the 13th Duke Of Connaught's Own Lancers. Sn 10778 - 10778
After the First World War, the number of Indian Cavalry Regiments was reduced. In September 1923, the 31st Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers were amalgamated with the 32nd Lancers to form 13th Duke of Connaught’s Own Bombay Lancers. The new badge was to be crossed lances with '13' on the intersection; a crown above and a scroll below, reading 'Duke of Connaught's Own.' Their uniform was blue with scarlet facings. In 1927 the Regiment was redesignated as the 13th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers. The 13th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers were one of the first two Indian Cavalry Regiments nominated for mechanisation. One squadron was equipped with the Vickers Medium Mark I tank and two squadrons with Staghound armoured cars. They were deployed on frontier duties but in April 1941, left for Iraq with the 10th Indian Division. They saw action against the Vichy French in Syria and also served in Persia and Iraq before joining the British Eighth Army in North Africa. This is an Official Photograph Album to the 13th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers, containing original photographic images up to the 1930's. The leather bound album contains 24 pages of photographs of the Lancer's including portraits of Commanding Officers, Groups of Lancer's and Lancer's both in formation and in the Field together with images of Military establishments and awards. The album measures 16 x 12 x 2 inches and has the Regimental badge in gold on the front cover. The album also contains a Regimental greetings card embossed with Regimental badge containing an image of an armoured column identified as 'Batvia 1946' with a handwritten inscription 'To Mother and Father from Douglas farewell parade of Regt), also a 14th May 2000 dated Combined Cavalry memorial service programme from an event held at Hyde Park. The album is accompanied by a Field Service Cap (Tent Type) to the 13th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers, with crimson body and blue flap embroidered with the regimental badge, all trimmed in gold, the black leather cloth lining has a manufacturer's label Ranken & Co. Ltd, India with handwritten name which appears to be 'Capt D.F. kerr'. The cap is approx. UK size 6. Also a metal cigarette case with hinged lid engraved with the Regimental badge. The second book covers a history of early percussion firearms ignition from Forsyth to Winchester .44/40 and was first published in 1959, this is a 1970 re print of the 1st Edition Standard Work. The book is illustrated throughout with plates and sketches. It consists of 172 pages and measures 9 1/2" x 6 1/2". It is in very good condition and is complete with it's original dustcover. The last is a 1953 copy and now out of print. This again is complete with the original dustcover, it is illustrated with plates, sketches and drawings. It measures 9" x 6" and consists of 178 pages. The 'Handloading for Hunters' book by Don Zutz printed in 1977 covers all aspects of hand loading, the reasons why Handloading is better and is fully illustrated throughout.
