**American M1917 Bayonet by Remington and Leather Scabbard. BAYO 425. - BAYO 425 This is a good condition M1917 bayonet made by Remington (founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington (as E. Remington and Sons) in Ilion, New York, it was one of the oldest gun makers in the US and claimed to be the oldest factory in the US that still made its original product) who made over 2 million bayonets). It is nicely stamped on the ricasso with ‘1917 Remington’. The other side is stamped with the 'Flaming Grenade' over "U.S" and the eagles head inspection mark with a feint ‘15’. The wooden grips which are showing minor signs of use and have two grooves cut into them with an oil hole in the pommel. It is carried in a later pattern British scabbard, later scabbards have the belt hooks attached to the top mount. The American scabbards also have a small drain hole drilled in the bottom of the chape, unlike British versions which did not have the hole. The Scabbard has a makers mark GF & GK (Grafton and Knight) to the rear. The scabbard leather has a nice patina and the stitching and metalwork are all in good order. British P1887 MK.I Regimentally Marked Enfield Martini Sword Bayonet and Scabbard. 21519. - 21519 The 1st pattern Enfield Martini bayonet was designed to fit beneath the barrel, the crossguard being provided with a hole for the clearing rod. The locking mechanism utilises a leaf spring. A 2nd pattern Enfield Martini rifle was also produced and the records for the years 1887 & 1888 indicate that 23,569 second pattern bayonets were manufactured. The 2nd pattern Enfield Martini bayonets were modified and subsequently became the pattern 1887 Mark I sword bayonet. This was approved on 13th May 1887. Blade length; 18.3”, overall length; 23.6” (muzzle; 18mm). The pommel is marked; N.E.P. over 8890 which is an unknown regimental marking. The blade is in good condition with staining consistent with its age. One side of the ricasso is marked ‘/87 and the other ‘WD’ below Broad Arrow and ‘E over 77’. The spine has a Broad Arrow and markings *see images*. The fish scale grips are good and intact with a few use related marks. The leather scabbard is in good order with all stitching in place. The brass furniture is good with minor use related knocks which are visible in the images. See pages 382 No 792 of The Bayonet Book by Watts & White for similar. Belgian M1924 Mauser Sword Bayonet & Scabbard. BAYO 419. - BAYO 419 The Sword bayonet for use with M1924 and M1930 Short Rifles produced by FN for export. These were made for use with Mauser rifles manufactured for export. The M1924 Mauser rifle was widely exported and made with two bayonets with identical hilts but different blade lengths they were made to be exported with this highly successful rifle. These rifles were sold worldwide to Argentina to Yugoslavia with scores of countries in between. See pages 26 & 41 No 99 of Watts & White ‘The Bayonet Book’. The polished blade length; 38 ¾ cm (51 ½ cm overall) The wooden grips are solid with only minor service wear. The metalwork is polished and retains the overall majority of its colour with No 15056 to the top of the pommel. The polished blade is in very good condition. Japanese ‘Arisaki Type 30’ Bayonet, Scabbard. BAYO 423. - BAYO 423 This is a Japanese ‘Arisaka Type 30’ bayonet with hooked quillon and made by ’Koishikawa’ ‘Tokyo Kokura’ arsenal.(The arsenal was established in 1916 as the ‘Kojura Arms Factory’ Kokura Heiki Seizojo as one of six arsenals under control of the Government: the others were the Tokyo Arsenal, Nizo Arsenal (Second Tokyo Arsenal), Nagoya Asenal, Osaka Arsenal and the South Manchurian Arsenal. The Arsenal manufactured various machine guns, cannons and rifles. The blade is blued and measures 15 ½ “(20” overall) with fullers and is marked to the ricasso with the four rings trademark of the ‘Kokura’ arsenal. The grips are wooden are in good order and held by two screw bolts. The scabbard is a tipped metal version with age related marks. (See ‘Bayonets of Japan’ by Raymond.C.Labar, page 79 onwards. German Miniature KS98 Desk Top/Letter Opener Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 167. - BAYO 167 This is a miniature version of the KS98 Dress Bayonet and has a 5 ½ " fullered polished steel blade. A rear facing quillon, wooden chequered grips and a stylised Birds head pommel. The scabbard is black painted steel but with no frog stud which would suggest use as a desk paper knife. *Rare* Socket Bayonet and Scabbard for use with the ‘India Catch’. Bayo 108. - BAYO 108 This is a socket bayonet that dates back to the mid-19th century, specifically between 1840 and 1855. It was designed for use with the India Catch and comes complete with a brown leather scabbard. Indian socket bayonets underwent a transition during this period, shifting from the earlier style to the locking ring style, which was consistent with Britain’s adoption of the pattern 1853 bayonet1. The overall length of this bayonet is approximately 19.75 inches, with a blade length of 15.75 inches and a socket length of 3 inches. The blade bears the maker’s name; “S. Hill”. 1960s South African No.9 Bayonet by Armscar Subsidiaries For No.4 SMLE Rifles And Scabbard. BAYO 420. - BAYO 420 This is a bayonet unique to South Africa. The socket is virtually identical to the British No.9 bayonet but with a blade from the UZI sub machine gun. According to Skennerton, these bayonets were made to fit the No.4 rifle and were made in the early 1960s by Armscar. The bayonets were intended for use by the South African Local Defence Force Commandoes, see Skennerton’s book British & Commonwealth Bayonets, page 370, item 6. The bayonets were issued in both reinforced fibreglass scabbards and as in the case of in our example steel scabbards from UZI bayonets. The bayonet has an excellent clean blackened 6 ¾ inch single edged blade with a ribbed release button pommel. The scabbard has the original black paint on the scabbard and there are no dents in it. British WWII Dated No4 MkI Cruciform Spike Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 794. - BAYO 794 This is an excellent original No4 MkI Cruciform bayonet in its original scabbard made by ‘Singer Manufacturing’. The bayonet is stamped to the shoulder with ‘G.R.’ & Crown over ‘No4 MkI’ & S.M. The blade is in good condition only showing minor age related wear. The scabbard is the MkI version with the steel mouthpiece which is stamped with ‘No4 MkI’ and the date ‘1940’. Again the scabbard has no dents and is only showing minor signs of age related wear. WWII German Mauser M84/98 2nd Model Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 792. - BAYO 792 M84/98 German bayonet 2nd model (The first pattern of S84/98 or M1884/98 bayonet was the 1871/1884 bayonet adapted so it could be used on the Gewehr 98. This was replaced in service by the 1898/05 bayonet. However during World War I the S84/98 began to be produced again under the designation S84/98 II. The German Imperial Army used this bayonet in World War I as a way of conserving scarce resources The S84/98 III was production of the S84/98 bayonet during the late Weimar period and during the time of Nazi Germany. The hilt has clean wooden grips and a flash guard and are held to the tang with two screw bolts . The pommel has a mortise slot and locking bolt which secures it to the rifle nose cap The crossguard has no quillon or muzzle ring. The blackened single edged spear point blade has a fuller on each side for about 180 mm. The riccasso has ‘6139’ crisply marked to one side and and maker coded asw (Horster) and dated 43 to the obverse. The metalwork has an aged patina see page 115 No283 of Watts & White ‘The Bayonet Book’ for similar. The scabbard is metal with a frog stud also stamped 43 asw and 7231*showing patina conducive with its age*. A very good example for the collector, the price includes UK delivery. BAYO 792. WWI British ‘P13’ Mk1 Sword, Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 174. - BAYO 174 This is a great example of the ‘P13’ bayonet, which although designated ‘P13’, fit the ‘P14’ rifle and was not introduced until ‘1916’. It is marked to the blade with ‘1913’ over ’11 16’ (November 1916) and ‘Remington’ in a circle. The other side of the blade carries British inspection stamps. The vast majority of these bayonets were made in America by ‘Remington and Winchester’ with only a few made in England by ‘Vickers’. The wooden grips have two groove on either side to distinguish it from the ‘P1907’. The scabbard is leather with a steel locket *slight movement* and chape.
