*Matching Numbers* Belgian ‘F.N. Model 1949’ Knife Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 796. - BAYO 796 This is an excellent ‘FN1949’ bayonet with virtually all of its blueing left on the blade. The pommel is marked with ‘S.A.30’ crown over ‘JF’ & ‘80562’ which denotes use by the Belgians themselves and not an export version. The ‘SA.30’ stands for semi-automatic 30 calibre. The number 80562 is also repeated on the scabbard mouthpiece. The wooden grips are showing signs of use related wear. The Belgian Army received 87,545 production rifles beginning in 1951, accounting for roughly half of all Model 1949 rifle production. The Model 1949 bayonet was the result of a request by Egypt, the second Model 1949 rifle purchaser, who wanted a shorter, thinner blade than the M1924/49 Long bayonet which had been produced for Venezuela. British ‘1903’ 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment Pattern Bayonet and MkI Scabbard. BAYO 795. - BAYO 795 This is a newly made ‘1903’ bayonet and not a converted ‘1888’ pattern. The ricasso is marked with a crown over E.R. (Edward Rex) and ‘1903’. Below this are several dates and inspection stamps. The opposite side carries the broad arrow over ‘EFD’ (Enfield) and an inspection stamp. The pommel carries ‘3 YK’ denoting the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra Princess of Wales’ Own) and the number ‘568’.. The wooden grips are in good condition with a few use related marks. The blade is in fine condition with an nice aged patina. The scabbard is the standard ‘MkI’ as used by both the ‘1888’ & ‘1903’ patterns. The metalwork and leather stitching are all intact. *Mint* British No7 Mk1/L Bayonet, Scabbard and ‘37’ Pattern Webbing Frog. BAYO 785. - BAYO 785 This is a British No7 Mk1/Lbayonet with brown tufnol grips. The No7 bayonet was only approved for land service hence the suffix L to the bayonet designation No7 Mk1/L. This is stamped crisply on the blade ricasso. These bayonets were mainly issued to the Guards and occasional use with the Mk5 Sten gun. The bayonet has a swivelling pommel which allowed it to be fixed to the No4 rifle and the Sten sub machine gun. The blade is the standard bowie shape as used on the No5 jungle carbine and successive marks including the No9 and L1A1 series. The scabbard is the standard No5 Mk2 with a brass mouthpiece. Australian ‘LIA2’ Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 765. - BAYO 765 This is the Australian version of the British ‘L1A1’ and remained thus for all of its service life, unlike the British version which had minor changes, up to ‘L1A4’. The Australian version is unmarked , and was originally parkerised all over, but the grips on this example have been painted black at some point in its lifetime. The blade is in very good condition. The scabbard is the ‘No5’ version with the steel mouthpiece and has ‘S294’ stamped to it. It is showing a few signs of age/use related wear but works as it should. WWI 1917 Sanderson 1907 Pattern Bayonet Marked 'BHM OTC' To Birmingham Officer Training College & Scabbard. Sn 9975. - Sn 9975 This is an original 1907 pattern bayonet for the Enfield rifle manufactured in April 1917 by Sanderson. The ricasso is stamped with a partially visible 'Sanderson', GR Kings Crown and '1907' (Pattern) & '4 '17 date (April 1917). It also has 1930's reissue stamps. The reverse is stamped with inspection marks. The blade is clean. The wood slab grips are in excellent undamaged condition. The pommel is stamped ' OTC' (Officer Training School) and 'BHM' (Birmingham) together with weapon number '106'. It is complete with its steel mounted leather scabbard. German Luftwaffe ‘M98’ Sawback Dress Bayonet with Steel Scabbard and Brown Leather Frog. BAYO 243. - BAYO 243 A German M98 dress bayonet with a long 9 ¾ “ blade with the ‘W.K.C’ Knights helm trademark to the ricasso, denoting Weyersburg Kirchbaum & Cie. Solingen'. See ‘German Clamshells’ by Walker & Weinand page 48 for similar. The chrome plating on this example is in very good condition and the bayonet is contained in its correct black steel scabbard with its brown leather frog which denotes ‘Luftwaffe’ use. German Private Purchase ‘M98’ Dress Bayonet with Stag Grips by ‘Anton Wingen Jr Solingen’. BAYO 242. - BAYO 242 This is an excellent private purchase M98 dress bayonet and scabbard. Short 7 ¾” blades were carried by NCO’s while longer blades (up to 9 ¾”) were carried by enlisted personnel (see the book 'German Clamshells' page 15 by Gary L. Walker & R.J. Weinand). The dress sidearm for military and civilian uniformed formations was designated the M98 Dress Bayonet. This bayonet represented a stylised form of the S. 84/98 bayonet purchased by the individual for wear with the walkout dress uniform. This example has a rifle mortise with original felt insert and false push button release (not designed to be fitted to a rifle). It has a clean plated 7 ¾” long blade (12 ½” overall). It has the maker’s name and trademark at the ricasso (illustrated). The cross guard and pommel are nickel plated. The Stag antler grips are undamaged*. One scale is marked where it was once mounted with a Nation Hunting Association white metal badge. It has its original black metal military issue scabbard with frog stud *slight play*. *Rare Variation*German 1871 Pattern Dress Bayonet & Brass Mounted Leather Scabbard. BAYO 236. - BAYO 236 This is an 1871 pattern bayonet with feint etching to the blade on both sides, which corresponds to item No 382 in ‘White & Watts’ The Bayonet Book page 173. However, this example has been cut down from its original blade length of 19.875” to 10.875”, but the etching continues to the tip. The ricasso carries the trademark of ‘W.K & C. (Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co). The blade retains its original red felt pad and the brass hilt has a non-working leaf spring. The scabbard is brass mounted black leather; all of the stitching is intact. The metalwork is in good order. A rare variation of an early dress bayonet. The price includes UK delivery. BAYO 236. German M98 Dress Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 234. - BAYO 234 An early Nazi M98 dress bayonet and scabbard. The dress sidearm for military and civilian uniformed formations was designated the M98 Dress Bayonet. This bayonet represented a stylised form of the S. 84/98 bayonet purchased by the individual for wear with the walkout dress uniform and was worn by the mainly non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. This early dress bayonet has a rifle mortise and push button release. It retains the red felt in the mortise slot. This is the short NCO’s version with a 7 ¾ “blade. The polished steel blade is in good condition with minor age related marks. The grips are chequered and secured with two screw bolts *minor age related wear to one side*.
