*Very Rare* German Sawback M1898/05 Bayonet and Steel Scabbard. BAYO 801. - BAYO 801 This is a rare sawback M1898/05 bayonet by a scarce maker; J.H.Becker & Co. Solingen. Anthony Carter in his book ‘German Bayonets, the models 98/02 & 98/05’, states that only a handful of bayonets with their trademark have been located, none of which have been dated. The sawback bayonets were probably made in 1916 and early 1917, before their manufacturing was suspended. It is contained in an Ersatz metal scabbard. The wooden slab grips are fully intact and are showing signs of age related use. The blade is in nice condition with slight staining due to age, J.H.Becker & Co is marked to one side. The scabbard has a few ‘impressions’ and a split to the bottom, but works as it should. This is an extremely rare bayonet and a must for the serious German bayonet collector. *Rare/Mint/Matching Numbers* ‘Argentinian M1909’ Sword bayonet, with Wood Grips & Blued Steel Scabbard By Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, To Fit The M1891 Mauser Rifle. BAYO 800. - BAYO 800 An Argentine M1909 sword bayonet with wood grips and blued steel scabbard manufactured by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, to fit the M1891 Mauser rifle. This was the last variant with wood grips. The bayonet has wood grips, secured with two steel rivets. The pommel is white alloy and has an oval with "R.A." (faint) inside denoting 'Republic of Argentina. It has a push button release. It has a hooked quillon and muzzle ring. The blade is polished steel and has a single edge and fullers. The blade measures 15 ¾ “ long. It is in excellent condition. The ricasso is stamped on one side with "Modelo Argentino 1909" above the Argentine crest, below this is has a serial number "L8530". On the reverse it has "Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co Solingen". The inscription and crest were usually filed off before sale as obsolete and specimens with the full crest and inscription are very hard to find. The blued steel scabbard has a matching serial number stamped above the oval frog stud "L8530". This is a rare bayonet with matching numbers in excellent condition and as is to be expected of a German Manufactured bayonet, of top quality. *Mint* Indian Bayonet ‘No1 MkII* Scabbard & 37 Pattern Webbing Frog. BAYO 799. - BAYO 799 This is a virtually mint India pattern No1 MII* with the fullers to the blade and a false edge tip, these bayonets are special to India (the MkII has a conventional tip). The blued blade is marked to the ricasso with ‘MkII* 8 43’ (August 1943) & JU (unknown maker). The wooden slab grips are in near perfect condition. The scabbard is a cut down ‘No1’ with steel mounts inspection marks and leather body, the stitching and steelwork are in good condition. The frog is a green ‘37’ pattern webbing example. *U.S. Original ‘M1 Garand’ Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 798. - BAYO 798 This is a nice ‘M1 Garand’ bayonet with an new blade and not a cut down ‘M1905’ or ‘M1942’. The fullers do not run through to the tip as with the cut down bayonets, but stop 2 ¾ “from the tip. Unusually there are no markings to the blade. The grips are black ribbed plastic held by a single screwbolt. The scabbard is standard olive drab M7 made by Beckwith MFG. Co, again freshly made and not a cut down version. It is marked to the top mount with a flaming grenade and U.S. The grips are in good overall condition with a few age related marks *see images* See ‘White & Watts item 929 pages 412 & 436. British L1A3 Bayonet with NATO Stores Code & No.5 Scabbard. BAYO 797. - BAYO 797 This is a British L1A3 bayonet and scabbard (see Skennerton’s book, British & Commonwealth Bayonets Book, page 261, item B322). The bayonet was first adopted on the 31st December 1958. The bayonet has a blackened pommel. Both grips have the designation L1A3, NATO stores number 9600257. The 8” drop point steel blade is single edged and has fullers. There are no visible marks on the blade,B59 (1959) is stamped to one side of the ricasso. The obvious difference between its predecessors is the recessed locking bolt latch in the pommel, which required a new pommel casting. *Matching Numbers* Belgian ‘F.N. Model 1949’ Knife Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 796. - BAYO 796 This is an excellent ‘FN1949’ bayonet with virtually all of its blueing left on the blade. The pommel is marked with ‘S.A.30’ crown over ‘JF’ & ‘80562’ which denotes use by the Belgians themselves and not an export version. The ‘SA.30’ stands for semi-automatic 30 calibre. The number 80562 is also repeated on the scabbard mouthpiece. The wooden grips are showing signs of use related wear. The Belgian Army received 87,545 production rifles beginning in 1951, accounting for roughly half of all Model 1949 rifle production. The Model 1949 bayonet was the result of a request by Egypt, the second Model 1949 rifle purchaser, who wanted a shorter, thinner blade than the M1924/49 Long bayonet which had been produced for Venezuela. British ‘1903’ 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment Pattern Bayonet and MkI Scabbard. BAYO 795. - BAYO 795 This is a newly made ‘1903’ bayonet and not a converted ‘1888’ pattern. The ricasso is marked with a crown over E.R. (Edward Rex) and ‘1903’. Below this are several dates and inspection stamps. The opposite side carries the broad arrow over ‘EFD’ (Enfield) and an inspection stamp. The pommel carries ‘3 YK’ denoting the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra Princess of Wales’ Own) and the number ‘568’.. The wooden grips are in good condition with a few use related marks. The blade is in fine condition with an nice aged patina. The scabbard is the standard ‘MkI’ as used by both the ‘1888’ & ‘1903’ patterns. The metalwork and leather stitching are all intact. *Mint* British No7 Mk1/L Bayonet, Scabbard and ‘37’ Pattern Webbing Frog. BAYO 785. - BAYO 785 This is a British No7 Mk1/Lbayonet with brown tufnol grips. The No7 bayonet was only approved for land service hence the suffix L to the bayonet designation No7 Mk1/L. This is stamped crisply on the blade ricasso. These bayonets were mainly issued to the Guards and occasional use with the Mk5 Sten gun. The bayonet has a swivelling pommel which allowed it to be fixed to the No4 rifle and the Sten sub machine gun. The blade is the standard bowie shape as used on the No5 jungle carbine and successive marks including the No9 and L1A1 series. The scabbard is the standard No5 Mk2 with a brass mouthpiece. Australian ‘LIA2’ Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 765. - BAYO 765 This is the Australian version of the British ‘L1A1’ and remained thus for all of its service life, unlike the British version which had minor changes, up to ‘L1A4’. The Australian version is unmarked , and was originally parkerised all over, but the grips on this example have been painted black at some point in its lifetime. The blade is in very good condition. The scabbard is the ‘No5’ version with the steel mouthpiece and has ‘S294’ stamped to it. It is showing a few signs of age/use related wear but works as it should.
