*Rare* Original WWI Dated ’07 Pattern’ Bayonet & Scabbard Issued to the ‘TJFF 702’ TransJordan Frontier Force which is Derived from ‘Lawrence of Arabia’s Arab Legion. 20183. - 20183 The Transjordan Frontier Force (TJFF) was established at Sarafand on 1 April 1926 with a cadre drawn from the Arab Legion and quickly grew to three cavalry squadrons, each of 120 men each, and an infantry unit. Its first commander was Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick William Bewsher. Other units, such as a camel squadron and mechanised units were subsequently added. The TJFF would be equipped in a conventional manner, with modern weapons, whilst the Arab Legion would, initially, remain a traditional force, looser in structure and without training in technology. Accordingly, the Arab Legion transferred its inventory of machine guns, artillery, and radios. This original 07 patt bayonet has been polished to dress parade brightness and was issued to ‘TJFF 702’ which is clearly stamped to the pommel. The blade is very clean and stamped to one side crown over 1907 – ’12 17’ (December 1917) above the maker Wilkinson (Wilkinson Sword- The company was founded as a manufacturer of guns made in Shotley Bridge in County Durham, by Henry Nock in London in 1772) the other side of the blade carries a broad arrow and inspection stamps. The leather scabbard is in good condition with all of the leather, stitching and metalwork in place. This bayonet and scabbard warrants further investigation. The price includes UK delivery. 20183. **VERY RARE**American Civil War Era Confederate Army & Navy ‘Bowie Bayonet’ With Chequered Polished Horn Scales, Etched Blade, Cross Guard With 14mm Diameter Muzzle Ring Cross Guard & Scabbard. Sn 20297 - 20297 Popularly known to the collecting world as the Bowie Bayonet these impressive bayonets were popular with both Union & Confederate troops in both the Army & Navy. Union examples were marked ‘U.S’. Many Confederate Bowie Bayonets were made by the British Sheffield trade when the outbreak of hostilities in 1861 sparked a boom for foreign cutlery manufacturers. Sheffield cutlers reaped handsome returns exporting substantial quantities to the Confederacy. See pages 179, 183 & 193 of The Bowie Knife by Flayderman where examples of Bowie Bayonets are illustrated (we cannot find an exact match for ours which has the quality and weight of a Sheffield made piece. The bayonet charge which can be seen in image 1 taken from a contemporary war artist’s impression illustrates why these impressive weapons would have been useful in combat). Our example, no doubt a Confederate weapon has a 10” long deep swept Bowie blade (15” overall). The blade is undamaged and has just staining consistent with age. One side of the blade has etched scrollwork decoration which is rubbed in areas. There are no visible maker or date marks. It has a steel cross guard with 14mm diameter muzzle ring (we are uncertain which rifle this bayonet was made for). Its polished horn ergonomic scales are undamaged with no chips or cracks and have chequered panels. Each grip is secured by 5 pins. One scale has a sprung knurled steel release button which works as it should. The Bowie bayonet is contained in its original leather scabbard which has a brass throat mount with frog locket and brass chape. The leather has some surface scuffing consistent with age and service use but all leather and stitching are clean & intact. The price for this very rare Bowie Bayonet includes UK delivery. Belgian ‘F.N. Model 1949 Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 565. - BAYO 565 This is probably an export version as Belgian used bayonets carry a ‘SA30’ over crown & J.F.’ and this bayonet is totally unmarked. Other users were Egypt and South American countries, so this is probably for South America as Egyptian bayonets have Arabic script to the pommel. The blade is in near mint condition, as are the wooden grips. The scabbard is blued steel and the frog stud carries the number ‘39808’. *Scarce* Austro-Hungarian ‘M1895’ Bayonet & Scabbard. BAYO 564. - BAYO 564 A scarce WW1 Austro-Hungarian M1895 Mannlicher carbine knife bayonet, with calibrated foresight on the muzzle ring. The M1895 Knife bayonet was made for use on the 8 mm. M1895 Mannlicher rifle, which was produced in great quantities prior to and during the First World War. The M1895 bayonet was the first knife bayonet to feature an inverted blade profile, where cutting edge faces upward when fixed. The Mannlicher M1895 (German: Infanterie Repetier-Gewehr M.95, Hungarian: Gyalogsági Ismétl!7; Puska M95; "Infantry Repeating-Rifle M95") is a straight pull bolt-action rifle, designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher that used a refined version of his revolutionary straight-pull action bolt, much like the Mannlicher M1890 carbine. This examples blade measures 24 ¾ cm (36 cm overall) it has an Eagle and makers mark to the ricasso. The wooden grips are held with two pins and are in good condition with age related use marks. The scabbard is in very good condition with makers mark, inspection stamps and ‘23’ on the frog mount. An nice pairing for the collector/enthusiast. The price includes UK delivery. BAYO 564. *Unique* Chilean M1910 Police Sidearm Converted From French Gras 1874 Bayonet and Steel Scabbard. ED 1047. - ED 1047 Chilean M1910 Police Sidearm Converted From French Gras 1874 Bayonet and Steel Scabbard. ED 1047. This is a nice unusual conversion. It is a Chilean Police sidearm and scabbard issued to the Chilean Police in 1910. These were made up using a section of the blade and the crossguard of a French Gras 1874 bayonet. This was then mated to a solid brass hilt bearing the Chilean Coat of Arms. The blade of the bayonet has been shortened dramatically to 11.25 inches and the bayonet measures 16 inches overall. There is no mortise slot or fixing button and therefore it was only intended as a dress item. The cross guard with muzzle ring and quillon is present. The hilt has number "C2116" stamped on its side. The bayonet is complete with its steel scabbard with brass mounts which is in nice condition. These are an uncommon item, (see Martin J. *Scarce* Israeli Uzi Sub Machine Gun Bayonet and Scabbard. BAYO 258. - BAYO 258 This is a current Uzi Sub Machine Gun bayonet of all steel construction in excellent condition. There are two versions, the one with steel grips and a metal scabbard and another with plastic grips and scabbard. This one is in very good condition. It has a parkerised 6 5/8" blade and as is usual with these bayonets devoid of any markings. It is complete with a nice condition plastic scabbard with steel mouth piece. 1902 Dated Japanese Made Siamese Mauser Bayonet & Scabbard. BAYO 246. - BAYO 246 This is a Mauser rifle bayonet imported by Siam (now Thailand). It has an overall length of 14 ½”and a blade length of 9 ¾”. The blade carries Thai script which translates to ‘RS121’. This indicates production in the 121st year of the Chakri Dynasty or 1902 in the Gregorian calendar. These bayonets were made in Japan for Siam (see pages 214 & 215 of the book ‘An Illustrated History Of Bayonets by Brayley’. The grips are wood held by 2 rivets. *SCARCE* Inter War, 1919 Dated, Australian, Lithgow, 1907 Pattern Bayonet Marked ‘3MD’ To The 3rd Military District (Victoria), Early MK 1 Leather Scabbard & Early 1908 Pattern Webbing Frog. BAYO 447. - BAYO 447 A scarce to find, Australian, Inter World War dated example of the Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle complete with scabbard & frog. The ricasso of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer ‘A’ star together with 'Lithgow 1907 Within Shield' (early Lithgow mark, see Skennerton page 294) and '1919’ date. The reverse is double stamped with 'A' within Star Lithgow inspection marks. The blued blade is undamaged. It's wood grips are secured by the correct screw bolts. The pommel is stamped ' A4155-1'. The cross guard is stamped ‘3MD’ To The 3rd Military District (Victoria) together with number ‘70569’. It is complete with its original steel mounted MK 1 black leather Scabbard. The throat mount is numbered ‘84’. All stitching of the scabbard is intact. Also included is an original 1908 webbing frog which is in excellent condition. The frog is the early pattern 1908 webbing style (see item 116 in Carters’ Bayonet Belt Frogs). *Near Mint* British ‘L1A3’ Bayonet Scabbard and Frog. 20113. - 20113 This is a British L1A3 bayonet, scabbard and frog (see Skennerton’s book, British & Commonwealth Bayonets Book, pages 261 – B322). The bayonet was first adopted on the 31st December 1958. On this example the grips carry the designation ‘L1A3 9600257’ and the blade ricasso carries the number ‘F60’ denoting manufacture in 1960. It has the early waisted crossguard and the pommel carries the number ‘113’. The No5 MkI scabbard retains all of its black paint and has virtually major marks. U.S M4 WWII Bayonet and Scabbard. 20155. - 20155 This is a very nice WWII M4 bayonet (The M4 bayonet was introduced in 1944 for use with the M1 carbine. The M4 bayonet, like the M3 fighting knife that preceded it, was designed for rapid production using a minimum of strategic metals and machine processes; it used a relatively narrow 6.75-inch bayonet-style spear-point blade with a sharpened 3.5-inch secondary edge) it is marked to the crossguard with ‘U.S. M4 AERIAL’ (Aerial Cutlery Manufacturing Co) The blade retains most of its original finish and the grip has the usual leather washers, which are firm and tight. The pommel carries a number 134. The scabbard is the early ‘U.S. M8’ made by ‘B.M.Co.’ (Beckwith Manufacturing Co). A nice late WWII M4 & M8 scabbard combination.
