A Belgian 6 shot 7mm Lefaucheux double action pinfire revolver made C1865, number 228357. It has a round barrel with octagonal breech 70mm (2¾”), the breech is marked “E. LEFAUCHEUX IN BREVETE”, Liege ‘ELG*’ proved cylinder. The breech, cylinder and frame engraved with scrolls, strapwork and dogs’ heads in medallions. It has a captive ejector rod, folding trigger, and plain antique ivory grips. The pistol’s bore has light staining consistent with age & crisp rifling. It has a triangular post fore sight and the rear sight consists of a grooved hammer. C1810 English Edward Wilson Liverpool 32 Bore Nipple & Drum Percussion Converted From Flintlock Holster Pistol With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 17713 - 17713
C1810 Edward Wilson is recorded working as a gunsmith at 64 Thomas Street Liverpool (see page 370 of British Gunmakers Vol. 2 by Brown). This is a Wilson Liverpool Percussion holster Pistol, made with flintlock C1810 and later nipple & drum converted to percussion. It is 14” overall length with an 8 ½” octagonal barrel which has a small blade fore sight. The top barrel flat is signed ‘Liverpool’. The smooth bore has staining consistent with age and use. The action tang & trigger guard with Pineapple finial have tooled foliate decoration. The full stock is made from English Walnut which has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age. The stock has an inlaid void German silver escutcheon. It has its original wood ram rod with polished horn end cap. The is signed by the maker ‘Wilson’ (there were many English gun makers named Wilson in the flintlock and percussion era, but we can only find Edward Wilson working in Liverpool in that period). An attractive 6 shot 9mm Lefaucheux double action pin fire revolver, made C1865 . It has a 2 stage 6” barrel. The breech is engraved with scrolls in panels and hunting dogs with game birds scenes. It is also stamped “E. LEFAUCHEUX INVR. BREVETE” & with Liege proofs. The frame numbered 256970. It has a captive ejector rod on the right, bag shaped antique ivory grips, and lanyard ring. The grips have fine, old stable cracks but are totally secure. The pistol’s rifled bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has fluted cylinder, pinched triangular block fore sight and notched hammer rear sight. The pistol is side gate loading and is fully functioning in both single & double action. An attractive Liege Belgium Proofed French “CHAMELOT & DELVIGNE ‘ 6 shot 12mm double action pin fire revolver made C1865. It has a 5 ½” Octagonal barrel. The cylinder, frame, barrel, trigger guard and lanyard ring are all German Silver . The metal is ornately engraved with panels of flowers, foliage and strap work. A Belgian 15 shot 7mm Chaineux double action pinfire revolver, c 1865, round barrel 5½” engraved “G.GOTH, CALLE SAN MARTIN 17, BUENOS AYRES” (retailer) with swing out ejector rod, finely chequered walnut grips, and lanyard ring. Made C1870 this very good revolver is side gate loading. It is double action only and fully functioning and has an undamaged chequered walnut grip. The barrel’s bore is clean with crisp rifling. An attractive, 6 shot 7mm Lefaucheux closed frame double action pinfire revolver, number 45950. It has a round barrel 3½” length with raised top rib. The barrel’s bore is clean with crisp rifling. The breech is stamped “E. LEFAUCHEUX INVR. BREVETE”. The frame and cylinder are inlaid with silver leaves and gold tendrils and lines, the barrel with simple silver line inlay. The pistol has a folding trigger, captive ejector rod , blade fore sight, notched plate rear sight & plain undamaged, antique ivory grips. Its double action firing mechanism works correctly in both single & double action. The revolver is contained in its close fitted blue velvet lined rosewood veneered case. The lid is brass bound with escutcheon within double line panel. The lid lining has gold blocked lettering “Bertonnet en Paris, Buenos-Ayres, y Montevideo” (most likely a retailer or finisher of pistols). The case contains accessories which include: turn screw with wood handle and antique ivory cap, cleaning rod (ebony cap chipped but stable), ebony oil bottle with antique ivory cap, compartment for cartridges, and key to the case. 1826-1833 English John Law Wolverhampton 44 Bore Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Birmingham Black Powder Proofs, Steel Turn Off Barrel & Safety Bolt. Sn 17587 - 17587
John Law was a Wolverhampton, Staffordshire based gunmaker recorded as working between 1826 & 1833 (see page 270 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.2). This is an excellent brass flintlock pocket pistol by Law. The pistol has a steel hammer, frizzen, safety bolt, trigger & trigger guard. The brass frame is faintly signed by the maker ‘Law’ on one side within oval panel on a field of banners. The reverse has stylised star motif on similar panel and field of banners. The pistol measures 6” overall & has a 1 ½” screw off steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use. The pistol has Birmingham black powder proofs on the underside of the action and barrel. The pistol has an undamaged bag shape walnut stock. The pistol’s action is strong. This is a English percussion pocket pistol made by Archer of London made C1800 (there are several Birmingham based Gunsmiths named Archer recorded in that era but we can find no record of a London based gun maker named Archer). It is 6 ¼” overall with a 1 ¾” turn off steel barrel. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has plain bag shaped wood grip which is undamaged, has a safety bolt & void oval silver escutcheon inlaid on its top edge. It has a strong cocking & firing action. The hammer is fitted with flint. Both sides of the action have scroll engraved panels within which, on the left, is the name of the maker 'Archer' & on the right 'London'. The underside of the steel action has black powder proofs. This is a very nice 7mm calibre, 6 shot, pin fire pocket revolver. It has a 3” octagonal steel barrel (7 ¼” overall). The pistol’s bore has crisp rifling and just light staining consistent with age & use. It has a small bead fore sight and an attractive gutta percha hard rubber grip with deep cut foliate decoration on both sides. The pistol’s barrel frame have Liege inspection marks and the cylinder has the Liege ‘ELG*’ within roundel mark. The frame, barrel & cylinder have ornate, deep cut tooled foliate decoration.
