**MINT BORE**QUALITY**1826-1855 English, Edward & William Bond London, 50 Bore Percussion Overcoat Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Fluted Barrel, Concealed Folding Trigger & White Metal Lion’s Head Butt Cap. Sn 22426:16 - 22426:16
A large family of English Gunsmith’s named Bond had premises at various London addresses including at 108 Leadenhall Street, 45 Cornhill and at 'The Golden Blunderbuss' 59 Lombard Street, between 1762 & 1879. The Bond's made and supplied firearms to The British East India Company. A member of that family Edward Bond is recorded at 45 Cornhill 1826-1855 (see page 143 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). William Bond is also recorded as working with Edward Bond at 45 Cornhill 1826-1855 and Northumberland Alley London 1871-1879 (see page 143 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). This is an excellent overcoat percussion pocket pistol by Edward & William Bond made at their Cornhill premises 1826-1855. The pistol is 6 ½” overall with a 2” screw off fluted barrel which has a near mint clean & bright smooth bore. The left side of the steel action is engraved 'E & W Bond Cornhill London’ . The right has foliate engraved decoration. It has a sliding safety, folding concealed trigger and Dolphin hammer. The action works crisply. It has crisp black powder proofs on the underside of the action. Its excellent undamaged walnut grip has fine chequering and is inlaid with a void white metal escutcheon. C1840 Scottish Alexander Martin Of Glasgow (Edinburgh Aberdeen & Stirling)Steel Frame 38 Bore Belt Pistol With Octagonal Barrel, Butt Trap, Belt Bar & Captive Ramrod. Sn 22362 - 22362
Alexander Martin (established 1778) was a Scottish gunmaker with various addresses in, Glasgow Edinburgh Aberdeen & Stirling. The Company traded until 1988 when it was taken over by John Dickson & Sons (see pages 281-282 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown). This is a nice steel framed percussion belt pistol by Alex Martin Glasgow. It is 10” overall length with a 5” octagonal sighted steel barrel which has British black powder proofs. The barrel’s smoothbore has just staining & residue consistent with age. The top of the barrel is signed by the maker ‘Alex Martin Glasgow’. The action, Dolphin hammer & trigger guard have foliate engraved decoration. It has a steel belt bar butt plate with hinged trap and captive steel ram rod. The action works crisply. The Walnut grip with fine chequering is excellent & undamaged. The back of the grip is inlaid with void white metal escutcheon. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian, C1840’s British WD Swinburn Birmingham Military Contract .650 Carbine Calibre Percussion Pistol with Captive Steel Ram Rod & Brass Furniture. Sn 21977:6. - 21977:6
C. P. Swinburn was a gunmaker located at 16-17 Russell Street in Birmingham, England, beginning in the 1840s. This is a very good British WD Light Dragoon Cavalry pistol by Swinburn of Birmingham most likely made under a British WD contract. It is 14” overall length with an 8” sighted blued barrel. The barrel has British ordnance inspection marks. The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. The original Walnut stock is a nice deep brown with regulation brass furniture & has just the bumps & bruises to be expected with age and service use. The wood is impressed ‘Swinburn’ and with Birmingham roundel. It has its original captive steel ram rod. The brass butt plate is holed for lanyard ring. The action plate is marked ‘Birmingham' and has Crown above WD arrow indicating made for the British WD. The action functions crisply. This is an attractive, very ornate Turkish Ottoman / Arabic flintlock Long Pistol Blunderbuss With Short Shoulder Stock. It is 19”overall with a 10 ¾” long iron barrel with flared muzzle and attractive profuse crisp silvered decoration. The barrel’s smooth bore has typical staining consistent with age and use. The muzzle opening is approx. 1 ¼” diameter. The all original wood full stock has just knocks bumps and bruises consistent with age. The stock incorporates a short shoulder stock with chequered grip panels at the wrist. The stock has brass fittings consisting of brass butt plate, brass stock plate, brass trigger guard with extended tang and brass ram rod flutes fitted with short wood ram rod. This is a nice, English form, steel framed percussion pocket pistol made C1820. It measures 7 ¼” overall (bayonet closed) with a 2 ½” turn off steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just staining & residue consistent with age & use. The action has foliate engraved decoration. The underside of the action & barrel have crisp English proof marks. It has a steel Dolphin hammer and steel trigger guard engraved with flower motif. The pistol is fitted with a 1 ¼” long folding triangular section bayonet blade. The bayonet block has a sprung steel release button to allow the bayonet to fold into the closed position. When closed the tip of the bayonet fits into a notch in the front of the trigger guard. The bayonet is released and flicks open by pulling the sprung trigger guard to the rear. The pistol’s bag shaped walnut grip is undamaged & inlaid with void white metal escutcheon. The barrel’s smooth bore has typical staining and residue consistent with age and use. The muzzle opening is just over 1” diameter. The all original tropical hardwood full stock is excellent. **SOLD**7/8**FACTORY NICKEL PLATED**American Wild West Remington Elliot’s 1865 Patent .41 Rim Fire Obsolete Calibre Over & Under Double Barrelled Derringer. Sn 22216 - 22216
The design of the Remington double derringer was little changed by Remington during a production run of nearly 70 years. This is an excellent, original, fully functioning example. The pistol has two 3" barrels set over & under and measures 5" overall making it easy to conceal and therefore popular with period Wild West Gamblers. The top of the barrel rib is stamped 'E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION N.Y.' & 'ELLIOTS PATENT DEC 12 1865'. The underside of the bottom barrel is numbered '168'. It has a sheathed trigger & undamaged wood grips. The pistol retains most of its original factory nickel plated finish. The barrels rifled bores are clean and its loading cocking and firing actions work crisply. Often the hinges on these derringers are found with cracks, our examples’ hinge has no cracks. The price for this iconic piece of American Wild West history includes UK delivery. **QUALITY**1837 Pair Of J. Tarratt London Gentleman’s 40 Bore Percussion Presentation Belt Pistols With Stock Plates Engraved `Presented To Oliver Powell By The Members Of The 1st Company Nassau Guards Brooklyn (New York USA) July 4th 1837'. Sn 22208 - 22208
Internet resources indicate the gunsmith J. Tarratt is listed in the "Dictionary of London Gunmakers 1350 - 1850" as marking his guns 'London' circa 1830 -1840. Frank Sellers' American Gunsmiths lists Tarratt as an unlocated maker of half stock percussion guns in the USA, with markings of either J. Tarratt or J. Tarratt & Sons indicating that he worked in America during his career). This is an excellent pair of Gentleman’s percussion belt pistols by J. Tarratt London. They have 5 ½” sighted octagonal steel barrels, original undamaged walnut grips with chequered panel grips, steel trigger guards, Dolphin hammers, belt bars and captive ram rods. The top of each grip have void German Silver escutcheons inlaid & one side of each grip are mounted with curved white metal plates engraved `Presented To Oliver Powell By The Members Of The 1st Company Nassau Guards Brooklyn July 4th 1837'. The Pistol’s German Silver actions and frames have foliate tooled decoration. The German Silver butt caps of each pistol have hinged traps. The top of each action is signed by the maker ‘J. Tarratt’ and the top barrel flats ‘London’. The barrel’s smooth bores are clean. Their cocking and firing actions are crisp. This is an excellent, English form, steel framed percussion traveling pistol made C1820. It measures 8” overall (bayonet closed) with a 3” turn off steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age. The action is signed ‘D. Thompson’ (unknown maker or retailer) amongst foliate engraved decoration. Foliate decoration is also present on the reverse side of the action. The underside of the action & barrel have crisp English proof marks. It has a steel Dolphin hammer and steel trigger guard. **MAN STOPPER**Early 1800’s English R. Horton London 22 Bore Flintlock Traveling Pistol With Folding Trigger & Turn Off Barrel. Sn 16380 - 16380
This an excellent large calibre flintlock pocket pistol made or retailed by R. Horton London. It is 8” overall length and has a 2 ½” screw off barrel (the underside of the barrel has a lug for tool to turn off the barrel. We do not have the tool). This man stopper pistol is 15mm at the muzzle (approx. 22 bore). The barrel’s smooth bore has just staining consistent with age and use. The underside of the frame has crisp proof marks. It's action is decorated on both sides, one side with Martial banners & arms and is signed ‘R.Horton’ within panel. The other side has Martial banners & arms and is signed ‘London’ within panel. The action has a sliding safety bolt to the rear of the Swan neck hammer which is fitted with flint. It has its undamaged original bag shaped wood grip. The grip is inlaid with a void silver escutcheon. It has a folding trigger & the weapon cocks and dry fires as it should. The price for this pistol worthy of further research includes UK delivery.
