Quality 1806-1849 Flintlock Pocket Pistols With .47" Calibre Screw Off Barrels, Birmingham Proof Marks & Unusual Sliding Safety Catches By McLauchlan, Edinburgh, Scotland. Sn 8877. - Sn 8877 William McLauchlan was a Scottish Gunamker with premises first recorded in 1806 at 8 Lothian Street, Edinburgh. Between 1806 & 1849 he is also recorded as having premises at other Edinburgh addresses in Nicholson Street, Home Street and Morrison Place. This is a fine pair of flintlock pocket pistols by McLauchlan. They are 6 1/2 inches overall with 1 3/4", .47" Bore screw off barrels which have Birmingham proof marks. On the left side they are engraved 'McLauchlan' and the right 'Edinburgh' within Arms & Banners designs. Both trigger guards are engraved with stylised 'Star' designs and both hammers are fitted with flints. Both pistols have unusual sliding safety catches. The sliding safety bars have pin ends. The pin when pushed forward not only locks the hammer but also enters a purpose made hole in the pan lid which keeps the lid securely closed preventing exposure of gunpowder in the pan & accidental ignition or loss of the gunpowder. Many pistols with this type of safety catch are broken by owners, unaware of the feature, forcing the pan open and breaking the safety pin. The safety catches and firing actions of both these pistols are complete & work as they should. Their bag shaped wood grips are excellent & undamaged. C1720-1745 Brace Of English Henry Delany London 16 Bore Flintlock Pistols Nipple & Drum Converted To Percussion With Ornate Silver Wire Decoration & Turn Off Cannon Barrels. Sn 17555:6. - Sn 17555:6 Henry Delany was a London based gunmaker recorded at St. Martin-in-the-Fields C1720 and having workshops at Langley Street (‘Cross the Way’) Long Acre 1722-45. He was a maker of fine sporting guns and silver mounted pistols (see Howard L. Blackmore (1986) Gunmakers Of London, 1350-1850. George Shumway Publisher. USA). This is an excellent matching pair of 16 Bore pistols by Delany. The pistols have 6” screw off cannon barrels (14” overall). Their bores have staining and residue consistent with age and use. The pistols, both originally flintlock were made C1720-1745 and have been contemporarily nipple and drum converted to percussion C1830. The underside of each action have crisp English black powder proofs and are signed H. Delany London. Their Walnut stocks are ornately inlaid with scrolling silver wire. The heavy silver butt caps bear flower devices. The back of each wrist is mounted with silver panels each bearing a lightly engraved rampant Lion. Their actions are nice and strong. 1795-1832 English Patrick Of Liverpool Pair Of 50 Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistols With Screw Off Barrels & Folding Triggers. A 1015. - A 1015 Jeremiah Patrick was an English Liverpool based Gunsmith between 1795-1814. The business was then taken on by Edward Patrick between 1814-1820 & finally by Ann Patrick from 1820-1832. This is an excellent pair of percussion pocket pistols by Patrick Liverpool. They are each 6” overall length with 1 ¾” screw off barrels, concealed folding triggers, sliding safety bolts and Swan neck hammers. The bores of both pistols have staining consistent with age. It has impressed proof /inspection marks on the underside of the action and the barrel’s each have lugs for tool to allow the barrels to be turned off (we do not have a tool). On the left side amongst a panel with banners each pistol is crisply marked ‘Patrick Liverpool’ and the right sides have martial arms and banners. The actions of each pistol work as they should. The bag shaped wood grips are excellent & undamaged and are both inlaid with void silver shields. The price includes UK delivery. RESERVED RESERVED **MINT BORE**C1830 William IV British Board Of Ordnance Short Sea Service.577 Regulation Calibre Flintlock Pistol With Cudgel Butt Captive Ram Rod & Belt Bar. Sn 19372:2 - Sn 19372:2 This is an excellent original Short Sea Service flintlock pistol. It is 15 ½” overall length with a 9” barrel which is .577 Regulation Calibre. The Walnut stock has regulation brass furniture & has just the bumps & bruises to be expected with age and service use. The wood is impressed with inspection marks and ‘BO with Broad Arrow’ Board Of Ordnance mark. It has its original captive steel ram rod & belt bar. The belt bar has a crown ordnance mark. The barrel has proof marks. The barrel’s smooth bore is near mint clean and bright. The lock plate is marked Crown WR (William IV Rex 1830-1837) and inspection mark. The action functions crisply. The barrel and action have been re-blued to a high standard at some point in its life. C1840 British Yeomanry 15 Bore Muzzle Loading Percussion Holster Pistol With Steel Ram Rod. Sn 20049 - 20049 This is a British Yeomanry holster pistol made C1840. It has all original full wood stock with brass fittings including cudgel butt. It’s steel ram rod is tightly held under the stock within the brass ramrod flutes (to avoid damage we have not attempted to remove it). The pistol measures 13 ½” overall with a 7” browned steel barrel. The barrel has proofs (illustrated). The smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use. The pistol is un-sighted. The cocking and firing mechanisms are crisp. There are no visible maker or date marks on the pistol. The price includes UK delivery. C1830 English, Bradney Sheffield, 40 Bore Round Action Percussion Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Barrel & Concealed Trigger. Sn 18732. - Sn 18732 This is an excellent percussion pocket pistol by Bradney of Sheffield made C1830 (although we cannot find a reference to a Sheffield based gunsmith named Bradney, in 1822 a John Bradney of 4 Solly Street, Sheffield is recorded as a metal japanner in the ‘Transcript of the entry of professions and trades for Sheffield’ in Baines's Directory and Gazetteer Directory, this may be the same person who expanded his metal working business into gun making). The pistol is 6” overall with a 1 ½” screw off smoothbore barrel. The bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use (the removal of the turn off barrel requires use of a tool which we do not have). The left side of the round steel action is engraved 'Bradney' within foliate panel. The right ’Sheffield’ within foliate panel. It has a sliding safety, folding concealed trigger and Dolphin hammer. The action works perfectly. It has crisp proof /inspection marks on the underside of the frame & barrel. Its bag shaped walnut grip has fine chequering and is inlaid with a void silver roundel. 1831 French Model 1822 Challerault Cavalry Pistol Converted from Flintlock to Percussion. A 585. - A 585 An original French Model 1822 Challerault Cavalry pistol converted from flintlock to percussion with a rifled barrel. The pistol has a dark wood stock which has regimental marks stamped into it "122 449 G". The woodwork is excellent. The lock plate is stamped with "Mre Rle de Culle". The barrel is date stamped with "1831" and "M.R." on the right hand side and "C de 17, 6A C.C." on the left hand side. The pistol retains the original ramrod / powder measure which is stamped "3387". The pistol's foresight and backsight are original and undamaged. The pistol cocks and dry fires with a strong action.. The brass furniture is all original with a good patina and all have the French proof marks stamped inside an oval. The pistol butt has a steel lanyard ring attached to it. This is a fine example of this pistol, substantial and well made. The price includes UK delivery. English Late 18th / Early 19th Century ‘Segary’ 16 Bore Flintlock Holster Pistol. Sn 14657. - 14657 This is a very good English form flintlock holster pistol made sometime in the late 18th / early 19th Century. It has a 9” round steel barrel. The barrel is 16.71mm muzzle diameter (approx. 16 bore). The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. The barrel has crown V and crown P proofs (illustrated). It has a swan neck hammer, and brass furniture including butt plate, trigger guard with extended tang and ram rod mount. The lock plate is signed ‘Segray’. The walnut stock full stock is undamaged. UNAVAILABLE UNAVAILABLE C1860's American Merwin & Bray Firearms Co New York 5 Shot Brass Framed .30 Rim Fire Obsolete Calibre Single Action Revolver Converted From Cup Primed Teat Fire With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 19816 - 19816 An original cup primed Teat fire revolver by Merwin & Bray Firearms Co New York period converted to rim fire . It has a 3 ½” octagonal barrel with top rib which is marked “Merwin & Bray Firearms Co NY”. “Merwin & Bray New York” is repeated on another barrel flat. It has an undamaged brass frame stamped “1427” which is repeated on the underside of the barrel. The barrel’s bore has just light staining and crisp rifling. The front sight is a half round German silver blade. It has a grooved frame rear sight. Originally as a teat fire revolver it would have had a captive ejector rod mounted on the side of the frame to eject the front loaded teat fire cartridges, the ejector rod has been removed as part of the conversion to rim fire and the cylinder which would have been sealed at the breech end, replaced with open cylinders for rim fire cartridges. The grips are smooth varnished rosewood which have just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age. The barrel, removable cylinder and hammer retain some of their original blue finish. 1823-1840 American 50 Bore, Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel & English Birmingham Black Powder Proofs. Sn 19769 - 19769 According to "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter, pages 304 and 305, John P. Moore operated a gun shop in New York City America between 1823 and 1840. This is a brass Flintlock pocket pistol by J.P Moore. It is 6 ¾” overall with a 2" turn off brass barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. The brass frame is engraved on both sides with martial banners & arms. Within the panels are the maker’s name ‘J.P Moore’ on one side and ‘New York’ on the reverse. Interestingly the underside of the action has English Birmingham black powder proofs (internet research reveals that other forms of pistol of that period, including military form martial pieces by Moore of New York carry British proofs). It has a steel hammer, steel trigger & trigger guard. The pistol has an undamaged bag shaped slab walnut grip. The pistol cocks and dry fires crisply.
