C1820 M & J Pattison Dublin Ireland 28 Bore Percussion Traveling Pistol With Fish Tail Stock Octagonal Damascus Steel Barrel & Captive Steel Ram Rod. Sn 21681:12 - 21681:12
This is a nice M & J Pattison Dublin Ireland 28 Bore Percussion Traveling Pistol, made around 1820 (Carey’s book English Irish & Scottish Firearms Makers page 76 records a Dublin based Gunmaker M I Pattison making civilian pistols & long arms and Royal Government contract arms between 1800-1840, this is most likely the same man or family). It is a small sturdy pistol, 8 ¼” overall length with a 4” sighted Damascus steel barrel. The smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age & use. The top barrel flat has faint but legible marking ‘Dublin’ and the blued action plate has foliate tooled decoration and is signed by the Irish maker ‘M & I Pattison’. The fish tail stock is all original, made from Walnut. It has a steel trigger guard with extended tang & Pineapple finial, Dolphin hammer and steel butt plate. The grip has chequered panels and is inlaid with void white metal escutcheon. It has its original captive steel ram rod. The action works as it should. The price includes UK delivery. NB. RESERVED RESERVED C1800 English Form Mothershead 54 Bore Flintlock Traveling Pistol With Screw Off Barrel, Safety Bolt & Folding Sprung Bayonet. Sn 21703 - 21703
This is an excellent, English form, steel framed percussion traveling pistol made or retailed by Mothershead (we cannot find a gunmaker named Mothershead in our books). The pistol measures 7 ¾” overall (bayonet closed) with a 2 ¾” turn off steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. On one side the action is signed by the maker or retailer ‘Mothershead’ below foliate decoration. The reverse has martial banners and arms. The underside of the action has crisp English black powder proof marks. It has a steel cock, sliding safety bolt and steel trigger guard. The pistol is fitted with a 2 ¼” long folding triangular section bayonet blade. The bayonet block has a sprung steel release button to allow the bayonet to fold into the closed position. When closed the tip of the bayonet fits into a notch in the front of the trigger guard. The bayonet is released and flicks open by pulling the trigger guard to the rear. The shank of the bayonet has initials ‘D.L’ most likely an inspection mark or bayonet maker’s initials. The pistol’s bag shaped walnut grip has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age. Joseph & William Richards were English, London based Gunmakers recorded at 16 Staining Lane 1808-1810, then 1815-30 in Birmingham (some of the Birmingham made pistols were marked London), see page 196 of British Gunmakers Vol. 1 by Brown. This an excellent percussion pocket pistol no doubt made By John Jackson of Nottingham. It is 6” overall with a just under 1 ½” screw off barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The underside of the action and barrel have crisp proof marks. It's steel action is signed with the maker’s name ‘J&W Richards’ & the other side ‘London’. The action has a sliding safety bolt. It has an undamaged original bag shaped wood grip. John Jackson was an English, Nottingham based Gunmaker recorded at 7 Church Gate, Low Pavement Nottingham between 1821 & 1866. This an excellent Flintlock pocket pistol no doubt made By John Jackson of Nottingham. It is 6” overall with a just under 1 ½” screw off barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The underside of the action and barrel have crisp proof marks. It's steel action is decorated with Martial banners on the left and right sides. One side has an oval panel with the maker’s name ‘Jackson’ (john is the only maker with that name based in Nottingham in the flintlock era). The other side has ‘Nott’ within oval (Nottingham). It has undamaged original bag shaped wood grip. The weapon cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Early 19th Century English Anderson London 40 Bore Brass Action Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Barrel & Concealed Folding Trigger. Sn 21704 - 21704
Robrt Anderson was an English journeyman gunmaker working in London. He is recorded working for Forsyth & Co 1812-1818. He is then recorded as working at 8 Macclesfield Street Soho 1822-27, 7 Broad Court Drury Lane 1827-30, 31 Cockspur Street 1831, 6 King Street Westminster 1832-34 & 32 Little Russell Street Bloomsbury 1836-39 (see page 137 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). This is a nice, brass Flintlock pocket pistol by Anderson of London, most likely Robert. It measures just 6” overall with a just under 1 ½” screw off brass barrel. The barrel's smoothbore has just staining and residue consistent with age & use. The brass action is signed ‘Anderson’ within engraved martial arms on one side and the reverse ‘London’ within martial arms. The underside of the action has English proofs and the barrel is numbered ‘1’. It has a steel cock, frizzen pan, sliding safety catch feature and concealed folding trigger. The pistol’s bag shaped wood grip is undamaged. The grip has an inlaid silver disc engraved with stylised ‘JC’ monogram. The pistol cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. William Bond was an English Thetford Norfolk based gunmaker recorded as having premises at Old Market 1821: Saint Magdalen Street 1829-1850 & Market Place 1852-69 (see page 85 of English Gunmakers by Bailey & Nie). This a good English percussion pocket pistol by Bond. It is 7 ½”overall with a 3” screw off barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. The action and barrel have crisp English proofs. Its action is decorated with foliate panels. The action tang has faint rubbed name ‘Bond Thetford’. Its original bag shaped wood grip is undamaged. This is a blunderbuss flintlock pistol in English form made C1790. It is 8” overall with a 3 ¾” cannon barrel. The flared muzzle is approx. ¾” diameter. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. It has its original undamaged walnut full stock inlaid with steel fittings including trigger guard with acanthus bud finial, stock plate, ram rod flutes and butt plate. The action works as it should. There are no visible external maker marks or black powder proofs. It is complete with small wood ram rod which has a brass end cap. This is a nice percussion pocket pistol made in Liege Belgium C1830. The pistol’s action has foliate engraved decoration. The barrel and action have Liege proof / inspection marks (illustrated). The pistol measures 6” overall & has a just over 2” turn off barrel ( the muzzle is slotted for tool to assist barrel removal, we do not have the tool). The barrel’s rifled bore has just staining consistent with age & use. It has a concealed folding trigger & undamaged bag shaped ebony grip which has a patch box at the butt. C1830 English E. Shaddick Or E.S Haddick Taunton (Somerset) Pair Of 54 Bore Boxlock Percussion Pocket Pistols With Screw Off Barrels & Folding Concealed Triggers. Sn 21393:58 - 21393:58
This is an excellent pair of percussion pocket pistols made C1830. The matching pistols are beautifully engraved with foliate decoration. Both have Dolphin hammers and sliding safety bolts. One side of each pistol is marked by the manufacturer or retailer which reads either ‘E. Shaddick’ or ‘E.S Haddick’ and the reverse 'Taunton' (we cannot find this gunmaker in our books). Both measure 5 ¾” overall & have just under 1 ¼” turn off barrels. The barrel’s smooth bores have just light staining. A tool is required to assist barrel removal, we do not have the tool. Both pistols have concealed folding triggers & the underside of the actions & barrels have black powder proof marks. They both have undamaged bag shaped wood grips mounted with void white metal void silver escutcheons. Their cocking & firing actions work crisply. 1834-1853 English Perrins (Worcester Or Berkshire) 28 Bore Percussion Overcoat / Traveling Pistol With Octagonal Barrel. Sn 21532:3 - 21532:3
This is an English Percussion Overcoat / Traveling Pistol. The pistol measures 11” overall and has a 5 ½” octagonal steel barrel. The barrel’s smoothbore is clean. The barrel has a bead fore sight. It has a steel trigger guard with extended tang and finial, steel ramrod flutes. The action has light foliate engraved decoration and has the makers name ‘Perrins’ (most likely either John working in Worcester 1834-1853 or Thomas working in Windsor Berkshire 1843-1851, see page 101of English Gunmakers by Baily & Nie) . It has its original walnut stock which has just light bumps & bruises consistent with age. The stock has a polished horn fore end cap and chequered grip panels. The pistol has an ebonised wood ram rod with white metal cap. It’s cocking and firing action work. The price includes UK delivery.
