**RARE DOUBLE TRIGGER**MINT BORE** Cased British Victorian Tranter’s Patent 54 Bore 5 Shot Percussion Revolver With Spurless Hammer, Captive Loading Lever, Octagonal Barrel & Accessories. Sn 22699 - 22699
This is an original Tranter’s Patent 50 Bore 5 shot percussion revolver with spurless hammer and rare to find double triggers. Its double action firing mechanism works as it should. The pistol is fired in double action by using 2 fingers to pull both triggers at the same time or the long trigger spur can be pulled moving the hammer to firing position and rotating the magazine, then the small trigger is pulled to fire the pistol. It has a 6” octagonal barrel (11 ¾” overall). The barrel’s bore is near mint clean and bright with well defined rifling. It has a blade fore sight & ‘v’ notch frame rear sight. The frame and cylinder have matching numbers ‘No.12289 T’. The barrel and cylinder have English black powder proofs. Its dark coloured finely chequered walnut grip is in excellent undamaged condition. The pistol's metal work is undamaged & has some original blue finish. The weapon's lever loading arm & double action firing mechanism work crisply. The large trigger is stamped ‘Tranter’s Patent’ and the captive loading lever ‘Tranter’s Patent’. The pistol is contained in its associated wood case with hinged lid. The top of the lid is inlaid with a void central brass plate. The case has a brass lock (key absent). The case is lined with green felt and has compartments which contain accessories, consisting of: an empty W. Tranter’s labelled Lubricating Bullets tin, a Fred Joyce London labelled percussion cap tin, an empty Tranter’s labelled tin ‘Lubrication Composition’ (the tins are period, the labels look later), a Barlow Patent marked copper and brass powder flask with sprung nozzle & a brass double bullet mould with steel sprue cutter. **QUALITY**MINT RIFLED BORES**C1780 Cased, Pair Of English John Twigg & John Bass London .577 Regulation Calibre Cavalry Officer’s Private Purchase Carbine Flintlock Pistols Retailed In France By Pirmet Paris & Period Converted To Percussion &accessories - 22967:2
John Bass was a London based gunsmith. He worked between 1761 & 1794 at his workshop located at 19 Green Park Row, Piccadilly, London and was in partnership for a while with the renowned English Gunsmith John Twigg. Bass partnered with his father-in-law John Twigg, himself considered one of the most talented gun makers of the era, to form Twigg & Bass in the 1780s and continued to work under his own name after Twigg's death circa 1790. Twigg & Bass are known to have produced high end flintlock pistols including pocket, coach, and duelling pistols. This is an excellent pair of percussion Carbine pistols by Twigg & Bass made C1780 retailed in France By Pirmet Paris (most likely François Pirmet recorded in Paris 1779–1818) and later period converted to percussion. These convertible Carbine pistols were popular private purchase weapons favoured by Cavalry Officers. They would originally have been issued with removable shoulder stocks so they could be used as either holster pistols or carbines carried in saddle buckets. Originally the pistols would have been supplied in a larger case to accommodate each pistols shoulder stock. These carbine pistols are without their shoulder stocks and are contained in a period fitted case, possibly when period converted to percussion and has all original accessories. The pistols have all original walnut full stocks with chequered grip panels and carved butts. The back of each grip is slotted for shoulder stock attachment. They have 9” sighted octagonal Damascus steel barrels (14 ½” overall). They have blued foliate decorated trigger guards with extended tangs and pineapple finials & Dolphin hammers. The action plates of each pistol are signed ‘Twigg & Bass’. The top of each barrel are signed ‘Twigg & Bass London’. One barrel flat of each pistol is signed ‘Carabine Par’ (Carbine By) and another of each pistol ‘Pirmet A Paris’. Each barrel has crisp English black powder proofs. Both pistols are complete with their original wood ram rods with steel tips and end caps. The rifled bores of each barrel are near mint clean & bright with well defined rifling. Their cocking & firing actions and safety bolts work crisply. The pistols are complete with their fitted wood case. The case with hinged lid has its original lock with key that locks the case correctly, folding brass carry handle and brass hook fasteners. The interior of the case is lined in felt and has compartments contoured to snugly fit the pistols and their accessories which include a copper and brass powder flask, a steel WD (War Dept) marked bullet mould, a wood cleaning rod with brass tip, a wood handled tool and Joyce & Co London labelled percussion cap tin which contains a quantity of percussion caps. Victorian, Tower Contract, Imperial German 16 Bore (17mm) Officers Pattern Percussion Pistol. Sn - 22899
This is an unusual Tower contract, Imperial German, officers percussion pistol with a Tower lock plate with tower inspection marks and the queens crown to the lock plate with a Birmingham proofed barrel. The pistol is in the classic form of the Imperial German cavalry pistol with the traditional nose cap, butt cap, side plate, trigger guard, stock form, ramrod and the lock plate with the raised section in front of the nipple bolster. The pistol has a 16 bore barrel which is Birmingham proofed. 16 bore measures to 17 mm which was the standard Imperial German bore for cavalry pistols. The double lined lock plate is stamped with the queens crown TOWER and the tower crowned inspection stamp above it. The hammer is the standard double lined tower pattern with a slight curl at the top. The pistol has a Germanic style brass butt cap, brass trigger guard and a iron nose cap which holds the mushroomed head ramrod. The pistol measures 17 inches in length and the 10 inch barrel which has a bright clean bore with very little staining. The family of Colt Pocket Percussion Revolvers evolved from the iconic 1860 Army and 1851 Navy Revolvers and were produced between 1849 and 1872. This original U.S. Colt .31 Calibre Cap and Ball, 5 shot Pocket Model of 1849 Revolver is in excellent condition. The pistol has a small brass bead fore sight and notched hammer rear sight. The metal work is undamaged with even grey / blue hue finish. It has an undamaged American Walnut grip. The top of the 4" octagonal barrel is correctly marked 'Address Saml Colt New York City'. The bore is near mint, clean & bright with well defined rifling. It has all matching serial numbers '60693’ stamped on its frame, barrel, grip frame, cylinder and butt of the brass grip frame which dates its manufacture to 1853. The cylinder is marked 'Colt's Patent’ which is repeated on the frame. The cylinder has correct faint engraved ‘Stage Coach hold Up Scene’. The brass grip frame has factory inspection mark 'G'. The weapon's single action firing mechanism and captive steel lever ram rod work crisply. The pistol is contained in its later wooden case with hinged lid. The inside of the lid has reproduction Colt’s instruction for use trade label. The case has a clasp fastener and it is lined with felt. The interior has compartments which snugly fit the weapon with additional compartments for accessories. Colt made their No.2 Derringer between 1870 and 1880. Colt designs were used by other American Arms manufacturer’s. This is an excellent original .41 RF Calibre ‘Knuckle Duster’ Colt USA No.2 derringer made for the English market. It measures 5” overall with a 2 ½” barrel which has a flat top with brass blade fore sight. The barrel’s bore is near mint clean & bright with crisp rifling. The rear sight consists of a groove in the knurled hammer spur. The barrel’s flat top is faintly marked by the maker ‘Colt Mfg Hartford Ct USA No.2’ between Maltese cross marks. The underside of the barrel is numbered ‘8110’ and has English black powder proofs. The derringer has a sheathed trigger & hook handle with the appearance of a knuckle duster (the heavy handle could be used to strike an assailant). The derringer’s American rosewood grips are undamaged and have nice deep cut chequered grip panels. The butt of the grip frame has matching number ‘8110’ and the steel frame has foliate scroll work decoration. E.L. Dickinson was an African-American gunmaker from Springfield, Massachusetts, known for his work on rimfire revolvers and possibly other firearms. While specific details are scarce, he is listed in databases of American gunmakers and may have had a connection to a firm named J. & L. Dickinson. Marketed as ‘Earthquake’ this revolver is one of many revolvers based on S&W and Colt Patents produced in the 1860’s through to the late 1870s with dynamic or quirky names to attract sales. This is an original ‘Earthquake’ revolver by the African American Gunsmith 'E.L Dickinson'. It retains most of its original factory nickel plate finish. It has a 2 ¾” octagonal steel barrel (7” overall). The barrel’s rifled bore is clean. One barrel flat is signed by the maker ‘E.L. Dickinson Springfield Mass USA’ and the top of the cylinder frame ‘EARTQUAKE’. It has a sheathed trigger and original finely chequered gutta percha hard rubber grips (one grip has an old stable chip to one edge near to the butt). The pistol has a blade fore sight. Four barrelled derringer pistols were made by the C. Sharps Company beginning with the 1859 Patent. Production of the Sharps, 4 shot pistols ended in 1874. This is an excellent original Sharps 1859 Patent, 4 barrelled pocket derringer in .30 RF calibre. It is a fully functioning example. The pistol has a cluster of 4 x 3” blued steel barrels and measures 5 ¾” overall. The barrel’s bores have typical light rifling and have staining & residue consistent with age and use. The frame is brass. It has a brass bead fore sight and grooved frame rear sight. One side of the frame is stamped 'C. Sharps Patent 1859', the reverse is stamped ‘C. Sharps & Co Philada PA’. The bottom of the barrel rib and butt of the grip frame have matching numbers '11404'. It has the correct revolving firing pin and loading is achieved by depression of a steel button on the underside of the frame. The barrel cluster can then be moved forward for loading of rounds. It has a sheathed trigger & original period gutta percha, chequered hard rubber grips which are undamaged. It's loading cocking and firing actions work crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Hopkins & Allen Arms Company were a U.S firearms manufacturing company based in Norwich, Connecticut that was founded in 1868 by Charles W. Allen, Charles A. Converse, Horace Briggs, Samuel S. Hopkins and Charles W. Hopkins. The Hopkins brothers ran the day-to-day operations of the company until it went bankrupt in 1916 and was subsequently bought by Marlin-Rockwell. Known as the ‘Blue Jacket No2 ’ Model, this revolver is one of many revolvers based on S&W and Colt Patents produced in the 1860’s through to the late 1870s with dynamic or quirky names to attract sales. This is an excellent original example of the ‘BLUE JACKET No 2’. It retains its original blue finish which has even aged fading. It has a 2 ¾” steel barrel (7” overall). The barrel’s bore is near mint clean & bright with crisp rifling. The steel cylinder spigot can be removed for speed loading by depression of a steel lever on the frame. The underside of the barrel is numbered ‘3848c’. Matching ‘384’ is repeated on the cylinder. The top of the frame is crisply marked 'Hopkins & Allen Mfg Co BLUE JACKET No2 Pat March 28 1871'. This is a brass flintlock pistol with cannon barrel with Liege Proof marks. It is 7 ¼” overall with a 3” cannon barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age & use. It has Liege ‘ELG’ and ‘IM’ marks on the brass frame and barrel. The action and barrel are faintly signed on one side ‘W. Geddes’ most likely a retailer. It has a steel hammer, frizzen, trigger guard and trigger. The action functions as it should. The action has a sliding safety catch which works as it should.
