Victorian British Hollis & Sons Gun Makers To Her Majesty’s War Department British Cavalry Officer’s Private Purchase .600” Calibre, Percussion Cavalry Carbine With Saddle Bar & Ring. Sn 13329 - 13329 Isaac Hollis and Sons were London based Victorian gun makers recorded as operating in 1861. Throughout the years, Hollis manufactured quality sporting firearms and rifles for the British Government. About 1915, Hollis merged to form the company of Hollis, Bentley and Playfair. They remained in business until 1935. This is a percussion Cavalry Carbine by Isaac Hollis & Sons, no doubt a Cavalry Officer’s private purchase weapon. It is in excellent condition. It has all original walnut stock and original finish to the metal work. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the lock plate is crisply ‘I. Hollis & Sons’ together with trademark roundel with wording ‘Makers To Her Majesty’s War Department’. Its 21" barrel (37” overall) has a clean .600” calibre bore with crisp 3 groove rifling. The top of the barrel is stamped with inspection marks. It has a graduated ‘100,200, 300 yards’, block & 2 leaf rear sight and block & blade fore sight. It has an under barrel captive steel ramrod. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard & butt plate. It is complete with original steel saddle bar & ring. The stock is marked ‘I. Hollis & Sons Gunmakers’ (illustrated). Rare & Original Napoleonic Era French Spontoon / Pike With Napoleonic Eagle Etched Blade. A 12 / 5001 - A12 / 5001 This is an original French Napoleonic era Spontoon / Pike. It has a wood shaft with no end cap. It is 82 ¼” overall length. The removable crossbar has pyramid ends and is 5 ½” width. The leaf shaped spear point blade with medial ridge is 11” length. One side of the blade is etched with the Napoleonic Eagle. It is secured to the shaft by a 3 ½” long steel ferrule with 4 ½” riveted steel straps. The shaft is undamaged and the metal has even patina. Due to the size of this item delivery will be by arrangement and within the UK only. A12 / 5001. QUALITY, C1860 Victorian English 15 Bore Double Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Hammer Shotgun. Sn 12661 - 12661 This is a quality made Victorian double barrel percussion shotgun. It has 30” brown wash steel barrels and measures 46” overall. The 15 Bore barrels set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib. The smooth bores are in superb clean condition. It has its original walnut stock which has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. Its steel butt plate tang, trigger guard with extended tang & hammers have light foliate engraved decoration. The fore stock has German silver mounts. The wrist is inlaid with void German silver escutcheon. The barrels have German Silver inserts at the breech. Both side plates have foliate decoration together with scenes of hunting dogs in the field. The shotgun is fitted with bead foresight and has its original wood ramrod with brass end caps. Surprisingly for a shotgun of this high quality there are no visible manufacturer’s names on this piece. The weapon cocks & dry fires as it should. Price includes UK delivery. NB. QUALITY, 1846-1878 Victorian English 17 Bore Double Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Hammer Shotgun By John Moore Of Cholsey (Berkshire). Sn 12662 - 12662 The English Gunsmith John Moore is recorded as having premises at Cholsey, Wallingford, Berkshire between 1846 & 1878 (see page 290 of British Gunmakers Volume 2 by Brown). This is a quality made Victorian double barrel percussion shotgun by Moore. It has 31” brown wash steel barrels and measures 47 ½” overall. The 17 Bore barrels set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib. The smooth bores are in superb clean condition, It has its original walnut stock which has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. Its steel butt plate tang, trigger guard with extended tang & hammer have light foliate engraved decoration. The fore stock has silver mounts. The wrist is inlaid with void silver escutcheon. The barrels have platinum inserts at the breech together with 3 gold bands. The barrel rib has the maker’s name ‘Moore Cholsey’ highlighted in gold. Both side plates have foliate decoration with the makers name ‘Moore’ on both sides. The shotgun is fitted with bead foresight and has its original wood ramrod with brass end caps. C1820 English, Steel Framed .38” Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Screw Off Barrel By Hayward & Goodwin London. Sn 11484 - 11484 This is a nice steel framed flintlock pocket pistol. The pistol is 7"overall with a 2 ½” screw off barrel. On the left side of the action it is engraved ' Hayward & Goodwin '. The right side ‘London’. It has a sliding safety & folding concealed trigger. The action works as it should with a strong spring. It has impressed proof /inspection marks on the underside of the frame. Mid 1800's .40 Calibre Break Action Needle Fire Rook Rifle By E.M Reilly & Co, London. A 547 - A 547 Edward Michael Reilly was an English Gunmaker who between 1861 & 1869 had premises at 315 & 502 New Oxford Street, London, operating as E.M Reilly & Co (see page 195 & 196 of English Gunmakers Vol.1 By Brown). This is a good quality .40 Calibre Needle Fire Rook Rifle By E.M Reilly & Co, London.. It has a 25 1/2" octagonal barrel and measures 42" overall. The barrel's bore is clean and has crisp rifling. The top of the barrel is engraved 'E.M. Reilly & Co 502 New Oxford Street, London'. Both sides of the action & trigger guard with extended tang are nicely engraved with a foliate design. The neck of the stock has chequered panels and it is fitted with a steel butt plate. The underside of the stock is inlaid with a small, oval, void, German Silver escutcheon. The stock is all original with just the bumps and bruises to be expected. The weapon has fixed blade fore sight and small flip up leaf rear sights. The weapon's break action is operated by a knurled plate lever which operates a threaded bolt which allows the barrel to be broken for loading. The weapon's needle fire action works perfectly. UNAVAILABLE English, Victorian, Syke's 'Extra' Patent Leather Shot Flask With Nickel Plated Brass Nozzle & adjustable Measure. Sn 9234. - 9234 This is an excellent original complete English, Victorian, Sykes 'Extra Patent', Leather Shot Flask With Nickel Plated Brass Nozzle. It measures 7 1/4" overall length and the leather pouch is 1 3/4" at it's widest point. The base of the pouch is fitted with a heavy duty leather lanyard ring. It has it's original screw thread, Nickel Plated nozzle with sprung lever and adjustable shot measures marked '1 & 1 1/4 oz'. The steel nozzle lever is crisply marked by the manufacturer 'Sykes Extra'. All stitching of the leather is intact and the nozzle retains it's original nickel finish. American Civil War Era .32 Calibre Moores / Williamsons 1864 Patent 6 Shot Teat Fire Revolver. Sn 8761 - 8761 Manufactured from 1864 to 1870 these 6 shot American front loading teat-fire revolvers were one of the most successful competitors to Smith & Wesson and it is believed that their popularity was one of the reasons for Colt's purchase of the National Arms Co in 1870. The top of the barrel is faintly marked "MOORE'S PAT. FIRE ARMS CO. BROOKLYN N.Y." and the underside with number "15868''. "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT JANUARY 5, 1864" is marked around the rear edge of the cylinder. The 'Gold Washed' frame and butt strap are nicely scroll engraved with a punch dot background. It has a case hardened hammer and smooth dark rosewood grips. The cocking & firing action work as they should. Price includes UK delivery.
