**VERY RARE** British Board Of Ordnance George III Enfield 1849 Paget Rifled Barrel .700 Calibre Rifled Bore Cavalry Carbine With Attractive Tiger Stripe Stock. A 1059 - A 1059 These carbines were designed by General Henry Paget (1768-1854). See page 141 of British Military firearms 1650-1850 By Blackmore. The flintlock version was adopted by the British Army in 1808 and was the carbine of the English Cavalry until C1830. Percussion Paget Carbines with rifled barrels remained in British Cavalry service during the Victorian era. This is an excellent example of the rare Paget percussion carbine. It has even patina to the metal work throughout. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the action plate is crisply stamped Crown GR (George Rex) together with inspection mark and ‘Tower’ (Enfield). Its 15 ¾” barrel (31 ¾”overall) has a rifled bore which is clean with crisp rifling. The top of the barrel is stamped with proof/inspection marks. It has the correct under barrel captive swivel ramrod. Its sights consit of a blade fore sight and ‘v’ notch plate rear sight. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard with extended tang & butt plate. It has all original wood stock which is stamped with ‘BO arrow’ Board Of Ordnance mark. The stock has an attractive Tiger stripe hue. It cocks & dry fires as it should. The price includes UK delivery. 1826-1833 English John Law Wolverhampton 44 Bore Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Birmingham Black Powder Proofs, Steel Turn Off Barrel & Safety Bolt. Sn 17587 - 17587 John Law was a Wolverhampton, Staffordshire based gunmaker recorded as working between 1826 & 1833 (see page 270 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.2). This is an excellent brass flintlock pocket pistol by Law. The pistol has a steel hammer, frizzen, safety bolt, trigger & trigger guard. The brass frame is faintly signed by the maker ‘Law’ on one side within oval panel on a field of banners. The reverse has stylised star motif on similar panel and field of banners. The pistol measures 6” overall & has a 1 ½” screw off steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use. The pistol has Birmingham black powder proofs on the underside of the action and barrel. The pistol has an undamaged bag shape walnut stock. The pistol’s action is strong. Ornate, Early 1800’s Large C & J.W. Hawksley Sheffield Embossed Shell & Bush Design Copper Black Powder Flask With Graduated, Sprung Brass Nozzle Charger. Sn 17573 - 17573 Decoration of 19th century powder flasks varied dramatically with hunting, game animals, foliate, village, military and marine scenes. This quality flask falls into the category of Shell & Bush décor featuring deep embossed shell with radiating bush combination (see page 286 of The powder flask book by Riling & page 288 plate 331 of the same book where a flask with similar design to ours is illustrated). The Sheffield based company Geo & JW Hawksley are recorded at 35 Smithfield 1845 and various addresses on Carver Street Sheffield from 1854 through to the 1940’s when the Company was bought by James Dixon & Sons (see page 114 of Riling’s book). This is an excellent, copper, gun size, black powder flask by C &JW Hawksley. It is deeply embossed with shell and bush decoration. The screw top brass charger has measurement adjustment ‘2 ¼ , 2 ½, 2 ¾, 3’ grains and spring lever which is fully functioning with a strong action. The charger is crisply marked ‘C & J.W. C1800 Archer Of London 38 Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Folding Trigger & Turn Off Barrel. Sn 17558 - 17558 This is a English percussion pocket pistol made by Archer of London made C1800 (there are several Birmingham based Gunsmiths named Archer recorded in that era but we can find no record of a London based gun maker named Archer). It is 6 ¼” overall with a 1 ¾” turn off steel barrel. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has plain bag shaped wood grip which is undamaged, has a safety bolt & void oval silver escutcheon inlaid on its top edge. It has a strong cocking & firing action. The hammer is fitted with flint. Both sides of the action have scroll engraved panels within which, on the left, is the name of the maker 'Archer' & on the right 'London'. The underside of the steel action has black powder proofs. C1880 Liege Belgium 7mm Pinfire Obsolete Calibre 6 Shot Double Action Revolver With Ornate Tooled Foliate Decoration & Attractive Ornate Gutta Percha Hard Rubber Grip. A 1050 - A 1050 This is a very nice 7mm calibre, 6 shot, pin fire pocket revolver. It has a 3” octagonal steel barrel (7 ¼” overall). The pistol’s bore has crisp rifling and just light staining consistent with age & use. It has a small bead fore sight and an attractive gutta percha hard rubber grip with deep cut foliate decoration on both sides. The pistol’s barrel frame have Liege inspection marks and the cylinder has the Liege ‘ELG*’ within roundel mark. The frame, barrel & cylinder have ornate, deep cut tooled foliate decoration. It has its original captive steel ejector rod. The pistol is side gate loading, has a folding trigger and is fully functioning in both single & double action. **RARE**C1873 British Kynoch Gun Factory converted 11mm / .43 Mauser Centre Fire Obsolete Calibre French Military Chassepot Model 1873 (M1866) Rifle. Sn 17469:5 - 17469:5 This is a British Kynoch Gun Factory converted French Military Chassepot M1866 rifle. After France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1871, the French government attributed a large portion of blame for the their loss on the Chassepot rifle's poor reliability on the battlefield. At this time the Chassepot utilised the needle fire system, French officials were convinced of the need to adopt a metallic cartridge centre fire system. In 1873, France awarded a contracted to the Kynoch Gun Factory, Aston here in the UK to modify and converted their remaining Chassepot rifles for centre fire. These modified rifles were designated the Chassepot Model 1873 rifle and can be identified by the markings on the barrel and receiver. In 1874 the French adopted the Gras Model 1874 rifle, although Kynoch continued reworking the Chassepot's until the late 1870s. During WWI many of these converted Chassepots were put back into service. It has a 32” barrel. The bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has steel furniture. It has the correct Kynoch Aston factory & calibre markings (all illustrated). The original stock is walnut and has just bumps, knocks and bruises to be expected with age and use. The bolt action loading and firing mechanisms work correctly. It is fitted with sling swivels, cleaning rod, ladder rear sight and block & blade fore sight. RARE, C1842-1844 British East India Company (EIC) Bengal Presidency Troops, Lovell’s Type Pattern 1842 E .75” Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Musket With Hanoverian Catch & Leather Sling. Sn 17469:3 - 17469:3 This is an original Pattern 1842 E .75” Calibre Muzzle Loading Percussion Musket. A Label that accompanies this musket states ‘Lovel type P42 E with Hanovarian Catch 1842-1844 Barrel by Barnett London Baker type ram rod. Issued to EIC Bengal Presidency Troops Troop H (or K) No.4 Man No.49 probably ex Nepalese hoard (IMA CRANMER). Note the P42 E is much less common than the F’. The musket measures 54 ½” overall length with a 39” round steel barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel has a block fore sight and proof marks’. It has its original lock plate which is crisply marked with the EIC rampant Lion mark. It has its original walnut stock with brass furniture & heavy military hammer. It has an original iron ramrod and sling swivels fitted with leather sling. The wood brass furniture and barrel have markings (interpreted on the label as ‘issued to EIC Bengal Presidency Troops Troop H (or K) No.4 Man No.49’). The cocking and firing mechanisms work as they should. The metal work has even patina throughout. The price for this rare musket worthy of further research includes UK delivery. **MINT BORE**C1880 French Eugene Lefaucheux Paris 9mm Pinfire Obsolete Calibre 6 Shot Double Action Military Revolver With Ornate Tooled Foliate Decoration & Folding Trigger. Sn 17456 - 17456 This is an excellent 6 shot, pin fire French military revolver. It has a 4” round steel barrel (8 ¾” overall). The pistol’s bore is near mint bright and clean with crisp rifling. The top of the barrel is crisply signed with E. Lefaucheux Paris Bte manufacturer detail (illustrated). It has a triangular post fore sight and the rear sight consists of a grooved hammer. The pistol’s walnut grip has just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The frame & cylinder have ornate, deep cut tooled foliate decoration. The frame is numbered 8873 and has the Lefaucheux ‘LF’ inspection mark together with his pistol trademark. It has its original captive steel ejector rod. The pistol is side gate loading, has a folding trigger which has a partially visible number ‘116?’and is fully functioning in both single & double action. The butt is fitted with military lanyard ring. C1900 Auguste Francotte’s 'AF' Patent Liege Belgium Martini Type Action .230 (297/230) Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre Cadet Rifle. Sn 17307 - 17307 Auguste Francotte & Co was a Liege gunmaker. His company was founded in 1810 and was most active between 1860 and 1914. It had premises at Rue Mont Saint Martin 61, in Liege. The Company made weapons based on other manufacturers designs. The Francotte house manufactured a number of rifles shotguns based on the Martini system and supplied them to a number of Countries armed forces. This is a Francotte’s Patent Martini type action obsolete calibre rifle. These small rifles were used as training rifles for Military cadets. It has a block & blade foresight & adjustable, graduated rear sight. The rear of the action is tapped for addition of Vernier target sight. The steel barrel's bore is clean with well defined rifling and it has a crisp martini type action which works as it should. It has all original wood furniture stamped with small indistinct numbers. The metal work is undamaged. It has a steel butt plate, sling swivels and steel cleaning rod. The left side of the action is stamped with Auguste Francotte ‘s ‘AF Patent’ below crown mark and number ‘59930’. The lever on the right side of the action is stamped ‘AF Patent C’. C1840 English Form, Peter Wharton, 6 Bore, Single Barrel, Muzzle Loading, Percussion Shotgun. Sn 17187. - 17187 This is an excellent, muzzle loading percussion shotgun in English form made C1840. It has a 33 ½” round brown wash steel barrel and measures 50 ½” overall. The smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The shotgun has its original walnut stock with chequered panels at the wrist & fore stock, polished horn fore end cap & steel butt plate. It has a steel lock plate signed by the maker or retailer ‘Peter Wharton’ (unknown) amongst foliate tooled decoration, Dolphin hammer, steel trigger guard with extended tang and acanthus bud finial also with tooled decoration. The shotgun is fitted with brass bead fore sight. The weapon cocks & dry fires perfectly as it should.
