1823-1840 American 50 Bore, Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel & English Birmingham Black Powder Proofs. Sn 19769 - 19769 According to "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter, pages 304 and 305, John P. Moore operated a gun shop in New York City America between 1823 and 1840. This is a brass Flintlock pocket pistol by J.P Moore. It is 6 ¾” overall with a 2" turn off brass barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. The brass frame is engraved on both sides with martial banners & arms. Within the panels are the maker’s name ‘J.P Moore’ on one side and ‘New York’ on the reverse. Interestingly the underside of the action has English Birmingham black powder proofs (internet research reveals that other forms of pistol of that period, including military form martial pieces by Moore of New York carry British proofs). It has a steel hammer, steel trigger & trigger guard. The pistol has an undamaged bag shaped slab walnut grip. The pistol cocks and dry fires crisply. **QUALITY**Mid 1800's English Brinsley Nantwich (Cheshire) & Whitchurch (Shropshire) Patent 15 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun. Sn 19752 - 19752 This is a quality made Victorian era 15 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun. It has a 30” 2 stage barrel with bead fore sight and measures 47 ½”overall. The barrel's smooth bore is clean. The top of the barrel is signed ‘ Brinsley Nantwich & Whitchurch Patent’. The hammer, trigger guard with extended tang and butt plate tang are nicely engraved with foliate decoration. The action is signed by the maker ‘Brinsley’ (The only British gunmaker we can find named Brinsley is Joseph Brinsley C1846 recorded at Dixon’s yard. Pier Isle Of Man see page 179 of British Gunmakers Vol 2 by Brown) along with a hunting scene of game bird and hunting dog in the field. The wrist of the stock has fine chequering. The top of the wrist is inlaid with void escutcheon. The all original woodwork is excellent. The gun has a wood ram rod with brass end cap. The gun’s cocking and firing action works crisply. C1840 English 50 Bore Percussion Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel. Sn 19687 - 19687 This a good English percussion pocket pistol made C1840. It is 6 ½”overall with a 2 ¼” screw off barrel (a tool is required to turn off the barrel, we do not have the tool). The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. The action and barrel have crisp English proofs. Its action is decorated on both sides with foliate panels. There is no visible makers name. It has its original bag shaped wood grip. The back of the grip is inlaid with void white metal escutcheon. The trigger guard is decorated with a stylised star motif. The weapon cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian 1886 Dated MK IV Enfield Martini Henry .577x .450 Long Lever British Service Rifle With British WD & India Arsenal Marks. Sn 19472 - 19472 This is an original MK IV. 1886 dated .577x .450 Martini Henry, long lever Service Rifle. It has its original woodwork throughout. The wood has Enfield roundel and other ink marks (illustrated). The metal work has British WD and India arsenal marks and ‘N.E.P’ , N.S’ Nepalese Native Service stamps (illustrated). It has a block & blade fore sight, flip up ladder rear sight, steel butt plate, sling swivels, cleaning rod & bayonet lug. 1859 British Volunteer Officer’s Private Purchase Enfield Tower Pattern 1856 .577 Calibre Muzzle Loading Line Regiment Sergeant’s & Rifle Brigade 2 Band Percussion Short Rifle. Sn 19291 - 19291 The Pattern 1856 was the first short rifle in the new .577 calibre family of muskets made by Enfield for the British Army. The Pattern 1856 was issued to all Sergeants of Line Regiments & the Rifle Brigade. This is an excellent volunteer officer’s private purchase Enfield Pattern 1856 short rifle. The action is dated 1859 & is marked ‘Tower’ (Enfield) together with Victorian Queen’s Crown. It has all original woodwork with steel butt plate, sling swivels, trigger guard, bayonet lug, fore end cap together with ramrod. The wood has chequered panels at the fore stock and wrist indicating this is a private purchase weapon. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises consistent with age and service use. Victorian ‘East India Company’ Combination Tool for Percussion Rifles and Muskets. A 1096. - A 1096 A rare percussion era combination tool for the Enfield rifle used by the East India Company. The East India Company (EIC) was English, and later British, joint-stock company founded in 1600. It was formed to trade in the Indian Ocean region, initially with the East Indies (the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia), and later with Qing China. The company seized control of large parts of the Indian subcontinent, colonised parts of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong after the First Opium War, and maintained trading posts and colonies in the Persian Gulf Residencies This tool incorporates a nipple pick and nipple wrench, two screwdrivers, one of which is “scooped” so that it may be used on the typical East India Company pattern ‘bun nut’. 1849 British WD Enfield Tower.702 Calibre Muzzle Loading, Percussion Rifled Carbine Stock Impressed ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’. Sn 19164 - 19164 The London based Barnett family of Gunsmiths are recorded at various addresses in London from 1796 to 1908 starting with Thomas Barnett at 134 Minories who later became Thomas Barnett & Sons and later John Edward Barnett at the Minories & 37 Camomile Street, ending as JE Barnett & Sons Ltd at Brewhouse Lane, Leaman Street & Duncan Street (see page 140 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This is an original British 1849 Enfield Tower made Carbine with stock marked by Barnett. It has excellent all original wood stock and original finish to the metal work. The wood is crisply impressed with ‘WD & Broad Arrow’ and most likely the stock maker’s cartouche ‘Barnett Gunmakers London’. It has a heavy military percussion hammer and the action plate is crisply stamped ‘Crown VR (Victoria Regina) & ‘Tower’ (Enfield) ‘1849’. Its 24" barrel (40” overall) is rifled and has just light staining consistent with age and use. The barrel has proofs. It has a ‘v’ notch block rear sight and block & blade fore sight. It has iron ramrod and sling swivels. The carbine also has brass fore end block, trigger guard, ram rod flutes & butt plate. The carbine cocks & dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Victorian Pattern 1853 Enfield Snider Conversion .577 Obsolete Calibre 3 Band Rifle With Nipple Protector & Chain & Buff Leather Sling & Socket Bayonet. Sn 19135:16 - 19135:16 The Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle was a .577 calibre Minié-type muzzle-loading rifled musket, used by the British Empire from 1853 to 1867; after which many were replaced in service by the cartridge-loaded Snider–Enfield rifle. This 3 band muzzle loading P1853 Enfield has been contemporarily converted to the breech loading snider system. The rifle has no maker, date or inspection marks. It has all original walnut stock which has bumps and bruises to be expected, brass butt plate, trigger guard, fore end block & steel cleaning rod. The rifle has its original block and blade fore sight and flip up graduated ladder rear sight. Its sling swivels are fitted with buff leather sling. The 36” barrel’s bore has staining consistent with age & crisp rifling. The cocking & firing action works crisply. The rifle comes with an original Socket Bayonet. Sn 19085 - 19085 This Victorian Lowe Chester 13 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Single Barrel Percussion Sporting / Hunting Shotgun has a 32 ½” long steel barrel & measures 48 ½” overall. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. It has a shallow grooved action rear sight. The gun has an undamaged walnut stock with German Silver fore end cap. The wrist has an inlaid silver escutcheon with engraved stylised monogram. It has a steel butt plate with extended tang, trigger guard with extended tang and Pineapple finial & steel hammer. The metal work has areas of foliate engraved decoration. The barrel has a partial gold band and gold manufacturer cartouche ‘Lowe Chester’ ( either Thomas Lowe recorded at Northgate Street Chester 1815-1834, William Lowe Northgate Street 1847-1869 or James Lowe Five Ashes Hough Green Chester 1864 see page 277 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown).
