1823-1840 American 50 Bore, Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel & English Birmingham Black Powder Proofs. Sn 19769 - 19769 According to "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter, pages 304 and 305, John P. Moore operated a gun shop in New York City America between 1823 and 1840. This is a brass Flintlock pocket pistol by J.P Moore. It is 6 ¾” overall with a 2" turn off brass barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining and residue consistent with age and use. The brass frame is engraved on both sides with martial banners & arms. Within the panels are the maker’s name ‘J.P Moore’ on one side and ‘New York’ on the reverse. Interestingly the underside of the action has English Birmingham black powder proofs (internet research reveals that other forms of pistol of that period, including military form martial pieces by Moore of New York carry British proofs). It has a steel hammer, steel trigger & trigger guard. The pistol has an undamaged bag shaped slab walnut grip. The pistol cocks and dry fires crisply. British, Victorian, C.1880, P.Webley & Son, Volunteers Purchase MK II Martini Henry .577x .450 Short Lever Rifle. Sn - 19679 The Webley company was founded in the late 18th century by William Davies, who made bullet moulds. It was taken over in 1834 by his son-in-law, Philip Webley, who began producing percussion sporting guns. The manufacture of revolvers, for which the firm became famous, began twenty years later. At that time the company was named P. Webley & Son. In 1897, Webley amalgamated with W & C Scott and Sons to become The Webley & Scott Revolver and Arms Company Ltd of Birmingham This is an excellent, original .577x .450 Martini Henry Mk II, British Volunteers private purchase short lever rifle made by P Webley & Son, Birmingham. The gun has its original woodwork throughout which has just light bumps & bruises to be expected with age and service use. The gun has a block & blade fore sight, flip up ladder rear sight, steel butt plate, sling swivels, cleaning rod & bayonet lug. The 33” steel barrel’s bore is clean and bright, with sharp rifling and well defined. The barrel has British proof marks. The metal work has even patina and has numbers (illustrated) and the action works crisply. The top of the barrel is signed by the maker ‘P Webley and Son, Birmingham’. The top of the barrel and side of the breach has the W&S winged bullet stamped into it. The stock is stamped with the LONDON roundel stock with II stamped under it together with various other stamps. The action and barrel have the serial number C164 stamped on it together with other various numbers. The butt is fitted with a sling swivel. The price includes UK delivery. **QUALITY**Mid 1800's English Brinsley Nantwich (Cheshire) & Whitchurch (Shropshire) Patent 15 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun. Sn 19752 - 19752 This is a quality made Victorian era 15 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion Sporting Shotgun. It has a 30” 2 stage barrel with bead fore sight and measures 47 ½”overall. The barrel's smooth bore is clean. The top of the barrel is signed ‘ Brinsley Nantwich & Whitchurch Patent’. The hammer, trigger guard with extended tang and butt plate tang are nicely engraved with foliate decoration. The action is signed by the maker ‘Brinsley’ (The only British gunmaker we can find named Brinsley is Joseph Brinsley C1846 recorded at Dixon’s yard. Pier Isle Of Man see page 179 of British Gunmakers Vol 2 by Brown) along with a hunting scene of game bird and hunting dog in the field. The wrist of the stock has fine chequering. The top of the wrist is inlaid with void escutcheon. The all original woodwork is excellent. The gun has a wood ram rod with brass end cap. The gun’s cocking and firing action works crisply. C1840 English 50 Bore Percussion Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel. Sn 19687 - 19687 This a good English percussion pocket pistol made C1840. It is 6 ½”overall with a 2 ¼” screw off barrel (a tool is required to turn off the barrel, we do not have the tool). The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age and use. The action and barrel have crisp English proofs. Its action is decorated on both sides with foliate panels. There is no visible makers name. It has its original bag shaped wood grip. The back of the grip is inlaid with void white metal escutcheon. The trigger guard is decorated with a stylised star motif. The weapon cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 19512 - 19512 The renowned English Gunsmiths Westley Richards & Co have been making unique and best quality shotguns and rifles for over 200 years. This is a Victorian era 16 Bore double barrel shotgun made by Westley Richards in good condition. It has Walnut furniture with finely chequered wrist and fore stock. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. The stock has an inlaid void silver escutcheon. The shotgun with double 27 ¼”, steel barrels, has double hammers & triggers. 1888 Dated MK II Enfield Martini Henry .577x .450 British Service Rifle With Later South African WD Marks & Leather Sling By Edward Day Canada. Sn 19470 - 19470 This is an excellent original MK II .577x .450 Martini Henry, British Service Rifle with later South African WD marks. It is fully British ordnance stamped and has its original woodwork throughout. The wood has an ink Enfield rifle and struck out dates. It has block and blade fore sight, flip up ladder rear sight, steel butt plate, sling swivels fitted with leather sling which is impressed ‘Edward Day Made In Canada’, cleaning rod & bayonet lug. The steel barrel's bore is clean & has crisp rifling. The metal work retains its original blue finish. The action works crisply. C1850, Victorian George Wallis Junior Of Hull Double Barrelled 15 Bore Muzzle Loading Percussion Shotgun. Sn 19505 - 19505 George Wallis Junior of Hull was the son of the master flintlock gunmaker of the same name, a distinguished gunmaker and antiquary who assisted William Constable of Burton Constable Hall with the maintenance of his magnificent collection. This is a very good Victorian double barrel muzzle loading percussion shotgun made Circa 1850 by George Wallis Junior of Hull. It has all original Walnut furniture with chequered panels at the wrist. The wood has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age. The top of the wrist has a void silver escutcheon & It has a steel butt plate. The shotgun with double 27 ¼”, brown wash steel barrels, has double hammers & triggers. It measures 44 ¼” overall. The action has silver roundels and the barrel has 2 silver bands inlaid. The barrel rib has a bead fore sight. The action, hammers and trigger guard with extended tang have foliate engraved decoration. The action plates are signed ‘Wallis Hull’. **RARE**C1802 Scottish William Morris Perth 16 Bore, Side By Side Double Barrelled Muzzle Loading Flintlock Shotgun. A 1102 - A 1102 William Morris was a Scottish gunmaker recorded as working in Perth in 1802 (see page 291 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown). This is a double barrel flintlock shotgun by William Morris of Perth. It has Walnut furniture with finely chequered wrist and fore stock. The action, steel butt plate tang and trigger guard with extended tang and pineapple finial have foliate engraved decoration. The shotgun has double 28 ¼”, 16 bore steel barrels with flat barrel rib. The smooth bores have light staining and residue consistent with age and use. It has double Swan neck hammers & double triggers (the right hammer is loosely fitted but functions as it should). The lock plates and barrel rib are signed by the maker (illustrated). It is complete with brass capped wood ram rod which has a worm tip. The cocking & firing actions of the weapon work crisply. SOLD SOLD (LAY-AWAY 08/12) **RARE**1848 Torino Arsenal Italian Piedmont-Sardinia .750 Musket Calibre Percussion Cavalry Carbine. Sn 19365 - 19365 This is a very nice, unusual variant of the scarce Torrino Arsenal Italian Piedmont-Sardinia 750 Musket Calibre Percussion Cavalry Carbine. Prior to Italian unification in 1861, what is modern day Italy was comprised of a number of smaller kingdoms, dukedoms and states, much like the German states of that era. The island of Sardinia was one of the larger and more powerful Italian states, and by 1815 had absorbed the Kingdoms of Piedmont and Nice (which it relinquished in 1860 to France), the Duchy of Savoy, the Duchy of Monferrato, portions of the Duchy of Milan, as well as several other Italian territories. In 1861, the Kingdom of Sardinia became the founding and controlling power of the new Kingdom of Italy. During the early 1840’s the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia adopted its first percussion ignition military long arm, the Piedmont Musket. The musket was based on the French M-1822 flintlock musket, but was a percussion arm. They were produced by contractors in Liege, Belgium, as well as at the state arsenal in the capital of Torino. In 1845 the Sardinian military adopted a cavalry carbine based upon the M-1844 musket. Belgian gun makers, both in Liege, and apparently in Torino, produced these arms as well. Our Piedmont cavalry carbine has the correct brass fittings, original steel ram rod and sling swivels. It has a blade fore sight and ‘v’ notch block rear sight on the barrel shank. The 13” barrel has factory inspector’s marks and 1848 date. The barrel’s bore has faint rifling and staining & residue consistent with age & use. The action plate has Torino arsenal marks. The small carbine is 28” overall length. The gun cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery.
