C1861-1865 English George Henry Daw 57 Threadneedle Street London Officer’s Private Purchase .577 Regulation Calibre Percussion Pistol With Brass Fittings, Belt Bar & Captive Steel Ramrod. Sn 20512:1 - 20512:1 George Henry Daw was an English Gunmaker originally established 1780, he worked C1861 -1865 at 57 Threadneedle Street London (see Witton & Daw page 216 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 by Brown). This is an excellent Officer’s private purchase, percussion pistol by George Henry Daw made at 57 Threadneedle Street London. It is 12” overall with a 6” heavy steel barrel. The barrel has a ‘v’ notch block rear sight. The top of the barrel is signed ‘George H Daw 57 Threadneedle Street London’ and has proofs. The barrel’s smooth bore has just light staining consistent with age and use. It’s steel action plate is signed ‘George H Daw’. It has a heavy military hammer, brass fittings and steel military lanyard ring. It has an excellent undamaged all original walnut stock fitted with steel belt bar. **MINT RIFLED BORE**1862 American Civil War Era French Model 1822 Tulle Arsenal .700 Calibre Muzzle Loading Cavalry Pistol Converted From Flintlock to Percussion. Sn 20474 - 20474 An original French Model 1822 Tulle Arsenal Cavalry pistol converted from flintlock to percussion with a rifled barrel. Many of these pistols were carried by Confederate troops in the American Civil war supplied by their French allies. This pistol has a Walnut Stock with regulation brass fittings. The wood has impressed roundels and numbers (illustrated). The brass has several inspection marks. The wood is all original with just bumps and bruises to be expected. The lock plate is stamped with ‘Tulle Arsenal’ detail. The 8” 2 stage barrel is date stamped with "1862 date" and "M.R." on the right hand side and "C de 17. 7N ES M" on the left hand side. It also has Model 1822 model designation behind the rear sight. The pistol’s rifled bore is near mint, clean & bright with crisp rifling. The pistol retains the original iron ramrod / powder measure. 1766-1803 Thomas Divine Dublin 16 Bore Flintlock Traveling Pistol With Browned 2 Stage Barrel & 1843-1846 WI 1314 (County Wicklow) Irish Registration Mark. Sn 20454 - 20454 This is an excellent Irish flintlock traveling pistol. It measures 15 ½” overall and has a browned 10 ¼” 2 stage barrel with clean smooth bore which is fitted with small blade fore sight. The rear sight consists of a shallow groove in the top of the action tang. The top of the barrel has 'Dublin' cartouche and another indistinct cartouche. The barrel also has a 1843-1846 ‘WI 1314’ (County Wicklow) Irish Registration Mark (the Irish Registration Act was passed in 1843 and lasted only a short while, until August 1846. There were 39 districts (34 counties, 4 boroughs and Dublin City) each with its own two letter prefix followed by a number. Wicklow’s prefix was WI). It has a steel cock, brass trigger guard with extended tang and Pineapple finial,brass butt with extended tang & brass ram rod mounts. The brass has foliate decoration. The steel lock plate is crisply signed 'Divine' within banner (most likely Thomas Divine / Devine Dublin 1766-1803) and has foliate decoration. The all original dark walnut full stock has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. The stoch is mounted with silver plated brass shield which has a stylised monogram, most likely that of the original period owner. The pistol is complete with iron ramrod. Its action works crisply. RESERVED RESERVED **MINT BORE**C1870's American Remington USA Patent Rolling Block .46 Obsolete Calibre Cavalry Saddle Carbine With Saddle Bar & Ring. Sn 20473 - 20473 The Remington Rolling Block rifles and carbines were breech-loading weapons produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The actions of these weapons were extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. This is a very good original Remington rolling block saddle carbine. The metal has even patina. The action tang is marked with faint Remington Ilion N.Y USA patent detail (illustrated). This small carbine has a 20” barrel (34 ¼” overall). The bore is near mint, clean & bright with crisp rifling. It has an external hammer, extractor plate, steel butt plate, pinched blade fore sight and flip up rear sight. The wood full stock is all original and has just light bumps and bruises to be expected. **THE LARGEST SHOTGUN FORM PRODUCED TO BE SHOULDER FIRED**Victorian Blanks (Essex Or Suffolk) Massive 4 Bore Percussion Muzzle Loading Wildfowling Shotgun With Walnut Stock & Ramrod. Sn 20471 - 20471 Edward Charles Blanks was an English Gunmaker recorded at Saxmundham Suffolk 1838 & is possibly the same man recorded as Edward Blanks working at Rochford Essex 1850. The gunmaker William Blanks is recorded at High Street Maldon Essex 1791-1851 and a gunmaker named Robert Blanks is recorded at Rochford 1855-1874 and another William Blanks is recorded at Rochford 1831-1869. It is not known if these men are related (see pages 173 & 174 of British Gunmakers Vol 2 by Brown). This is a massive percussion wildfowling gun by a gunmaker named Blanks no doubt one of the aforementioned gun smiths and is the largest form, intended to be fired from the shoulder. This gun is 5 feet 5 ½” overall length. It is a massive 4 bore and has a 48” round brown wash steel barrel. Its smooth bore is clean. It has an excellent walnut stock with chequered wrist, German Silver fore stock cap and stock mounts including an inlaid void disc to the underside of the shoulder stock. The stock has a steel butt plate with extended tang. The plain action plate is signed by the maker ‘Blanks’. It has a heavy steel Dolphin hammer. The barrel has a small German Silver post foresight. The piece is complete with its original ebonised wood ramrod with brass end cap and tip which unscrews to reveal a worm. Its cocking & firing actions work perfectly. **RARE**Late 19th Century Charles Lancaster ‘Patent Breech Loader’ 151 New Bond Street, London 14 Bore Black Powder Obsolete Calibre Double Barrelled Side By Side Hammer Breech Loading Rotary Under Lever Slide Break Action Sporting Shotgun. Sn 20376 - 20376 Charles William Lancaster (1820–1878) was an English listed as gun maker and improver of rifles and cannon. Lancaster was the eldest son of Charles Lancaster, gunmaker, of 151 New Bond Street, London. This is a very good Charles Lancaster ‘Patent Breech Loader’ double barrel hammer sporting shotgun made at the 151 New Bond Street London premises. It has 28 ¼” steel barrels (45” overall). The barrels, set side by side have a central flat top barrel rib and brass bead foresight. The rib is signed ‘Charles Lancaster 151 New Bond Street, London Patent Breech Loader’. The smooth bores have just light staining consistent with age and use. It has its original walnut stock which has just light bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use and double triggers. The action, hammers and lever have quality tooled decoration. The action plates also have banners with ‘Lancaster London Patent’ and the lever block is signed on both sides ‘Charles Lancaster’s Patent’. The trigger guard is numbered 3771. The wrist & fore stock have chequered panels. The stock has an inlaid void white metal escutcheon to the underside of the shoulder stock. The Lancaster patent breech loading mechanism works as it should (the lever is rotated which allows the barrels to slide forward then break open for breech loading). C1820 English Hill London 50 Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel. Sn 20369 - 20369 This an excellent English Flintlock pocket pistol. It is 6 ½” overall with a 1 ¾” screw off barrel. The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. The underside of the action has crisp Birmingham proof marks. Its steel action is decorated with Martial banners on the right side and with the manufacturer's name 'Hill' on one side and ‘London’ with Martial banners on the reverse (most likely one of 2 gunmakers, either, John Hill who worked as a gun barrel filer at Royal Enfield 1808-1817 then as a gunmaker at 40 St Catherine Street, Tower Hill 1817-1820. He is then recorded at 168 Tooley Street, Borough 1823-1831 and 76 Tooley Street 1832-1856. He is finally recorded at Essex Street & New Road Whitechapel 1836-1856, the second man William Hill was a gunsmith recorded at Plough Street, Whitechapel 1818-1824, see page 169 of British Gunmakers Vol 1 by Brown). It has an undamaged original bag shaped wood grip. The back of the grip has an inlaid void white metal escutcheon. The cock is fitted with a flint. The weapon cocks and dry fires crisply. **RARE**MINT BORE**American Civil War Era Austrian Model 1854 .54 Obsolete Calibre Lorenz Rifled Musket (1861 Springfield) Converted To Breech Capping Loading Regiment Marked ’51.1/7’ & Leather Sling. Sn 16430a - 16430a The Lorenz rifle was an Austrian rifle used in the mid 19th Century. It was used in several European wars, and also featured prominently in the U.S. Civil War. The Lorenz rifle was designed by Austrian Lieutenant Joseph Lorenz on similar design principles as the 1861 Springfield Armoury Rifled Musket. It was first approved for manufacture in 1854, and was Austria's first all-new infantry firearm in decades. The Lorenz rifle was the third most widely used rifle during the American Civil War. The Union recorded purchases of 226,924 and the Confederacy bought as many as 100,000. This original Lorenz rifle was converted in the period to breech capping loading. It has standard steel lock and furniture and undamaged walnut stock with figured check piece all in excellent condition. The metal work has even patina. The weapon has several small indistinct inspection marks and the steel butt plate tang is Regiment marked ’51.1/7’. It has sling swivels fitted with leather sling and original steel ram rod, It has a brass blade fore sight and flip up ladder rear sight. The bore of the musket’s 35” round steel barrel is near mint, clean & bright with crisp rifling. The rifle measures 53” overall length. The weapon’s loading, cocking and firing actions work crisply. C1805 English Wheeler London( Most Likely Robert Wheeler 1805-1808) 54 Bore Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel Sn 20359 - 20359 This is a nice English flintlock pocket pistol. The pistol is 7 ¼” overall with 2 ¼” 54 bore turn off barrel. The smoothbore has just staining and residue to be expected with age & use. The left side of the action is engraved with the name 'Wheeler' (most likely Robert Wheeler recorded as owning the Gun & Pistol Warehouse Cheapside 1805-1808 see page 212 of British Gunmakers by Brown). The right side has ‘London’. The rear of the action has a sliding safety bolt. The underside of the action has English proofs. It has a bag shaped wood grip which has a void white metal escutcheon.
