SOLD SOLD (lAY-AWAY 07/11)1794-1816 Cased, Pair Of English PB (Philip Bond) London Gentleman’s 28 Bore Flintlock Pistols With Octagonal Damascus Steel Barrels & Accessories. Sn 22186 - 22186 One of a large family of Gunsmiths, Philip John Joseph Bond was a London Gunmaker established at 45 Cornhill & Lombard Street, London during the reign of George III between 1794 and 1816 (see page 143 of British Gunmakers Vol.1 By Brown). This is an excellent pair of cased Gentleman’s flintlock pistols by ‘PB’ (most likely Philip John Joseph Bond). They have 9” Damascus steel barrels with blade foresights. Their original undamaged walnut stocks with chequered panel grips have engraved foliate design trigger guards with Pineapple finials, Swan neck cocks fitted with flints and original ebonised wood ram rods with polished horn end caps and steel worm tips. The plain steel lock plates have oval silver cartouches engraved with stylised ‘PB’ (most likely the monogram of Philip John Joseph Bond). The barrels smooth bores are clean. Their cocking and firing actions are crisp. The pistols are complete with wood case. The case has a hinged lid & original lock (key absent). The inside of the case is lined with felt and has compartments for accessories and the pistols. Accessories consist of a copper and brass powder flask with sprung nozzle, steel ball mould stamped ‘No.44 9370’, a wood handled tool, an ebony handled cleaning rod, steel worm attachment & a quantity of moulded lead balls, paper wads & spare flints.
