MATCHING NUMBERS, Rare, C1885 To Early 1900's German Heavy Gem .177 & .22 Calibre Break Action Air Rifle Retailed By AAMC Ltd London With Matching Number Argles Patent Shot Plug (Full Length Barrel Tube Calibre Converter). AI 674 - AI 674
German Heavy Gem air rifles were produced from C1885 To Early 1900's (see page 124 of A Collector's Guide To Air Rifles By Hiller). This Heavy Gem is in excellent condition.. The break action of these models is performed by depression of the thumb operated long lever located on top of the steel stock strap. It has a 21 ½” .22 calibre rifled 2 stage barrel. It measures 39 ½” overall. Its metal work and wood stock with steel butt plate is original and undamaged with nice patina throughout. It has fixed fore & rear sights. The barrel flats are crisply stamped with German Patent information, London retailer detail & ‘Patent Shot Plug Airgun’. The inside of the breech block is stamped '6907', ‘907’ is repeated on the inside of the trigger guard. The rifle comes with its original Argles patent marked Breech plug calibre converter and full length barrel tube for firing .177 calibre pellets. The back of the plug has matching number ‘07’. RARE, 1925-1932 Webley Mark 1 (1st In The Webley Service Series) .177 Calibre Air Rifle. Sn 17357 - 17357
Webley produced their Mark 1 Air Rifle between 1925 & 1932 (see pages 13-28 of Christopher Thrale's book , Webley Air Rifles 1925-2005). The Mark 1 was the 1st in the Webley Service series of Air Rifles. The Mark 1 is a small rifle only 34" in length with a 19" rifled barrel. These rifles are rare and this is a very good example with even patina to the blue finish. It has all original wood stock and metal work throughout. It has the correct thumb operated barrel release plate and steel butt plate. The left side is crisply marked 'WEBLEY AIR RIFLE MARK 1' & with 'winged pellet logo' on the trigger block, together with correct safety catch feature and 'Manufactured By Webley & Scott Ltd Birmingham & London' on the left side of the breech block. The right side of the trigger block & breech block is marked with 1923, 1924 & 1925 Great Britain, USA, Switzerland, Japan, U.S.A and Canada patents. The rifle is fitted with ‘v’ notch block rear sight, blade fore sight, adjustable trigger & the barrel is stamped with ‘.177’ calibre detail. The rifle is serial number ‘718’. EXTREMELY RARE, 1890 To Early 1900's German Gem Break Action Combination Air Rifle Imported / Retailed By Arbenz Birmingham Capable Of Firing Air Gun Pellets, Or 32 Rim Fire Obsolete Calibre Bullets Or Shot Shells. Sn 17182 - 17182
Gem Style Air rifles were produced from the 1890's to 1920. The patents for Gem Air Rifles were made out in 1894 and adverts for Gems have been seen as late as 1911 (see page 124 of A Collector's Guide To Air Rifles By Hiller). The break action of these models is performed by depression of the thumb operated lever located on top of the breech. This is an extremely rare example capable of firing .32 calibre rim fire ammunition (bullets or shot shells) & lead air gun pellets (internet resources indicate that .177 calibre air gun pellet conversion tubes were available in the period, ours is without conversion tube). C1887-1911, the New York based American inventor / gun maker Henry Marcus Quackenbush produced this type of weapon designated the Quackenbush model 5, very similar in appearance to our German made Gem (see page 188 of A Collector's Guide To Air Rifles By Hiller). Our Gem has a 17 ¾” round blued steel barrel stepped to octagonal and is just measures 35” overall length. The smoothbore has just light staining consistent with age. It has a blade fore sight and the rear sight is a notched block which forms part of the barrel release catch. The breech has a winged manually operated extractor plate to extract 32 RF ammunition and its rim fire firing pin is present and functions as it should. Its action, cylinder tube and curved butt plate retain most of their original factory nickel plating. The original walnut shoulder stock has just light bumps and bruises to be expected. The top of the barrel is signed ‘Patent Gem No. 10937 together with crossed pistols trademark. One barrel flat is marked ‘Arbenzs Patent’ next to proof / inspection marks (A. Arbenz was a Birmingham based importer / retailer of Gem Air Rifles, see page 127 of Hiller’s book). The inside of the breech block above the pellet loading hole is stamped with faint numbers which appear to be ‘15’ ‘19’ and ‘1078’. The spring arm has matching number ‘078’. The cocking, loading & firing actions work as they should. The price for this extremely rare piece of firearms / air gun history worthy of further research. As an antique obsolete calibre combination gun no licence is required to possess in the UK if held for collecting and display. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 17182

MINT, 1962-1966 B.S.A Meteor MK II .22 Calibre Break Action Air Rifle 'TA' Prefix Serial Number. AI 660 - AI 660
Birmingham Small Arms introduced the Meteor Air rifle in both .177 & .22 calibre in 1959. MK 1 rifles were produced until 1962 when the MK II model was introduced. MK II production continued until 1968. The small frame rifle is 41 ½” overall with an 18" barrel. This is a near mint example of the MK II Meteor in .22 Calibre. It has a mint undamaged light coloured wood stock with grooved butt end. The metal work is undamaged and retains all of its original blueing. It has a block and blade fore sight. The top of the adjustable rear sight is stamped with the BSA piled arms logo and the top of the cylinder forward of its 2 raised scope mounts is crisply marked 'BSA Meteor' with stylised arrow logo. The rifle's serial number 'TA27572' is stamped on the underside of the barrel block. The 'TA' prefix serial number dates the rifle to between 1962 and 1966 (see page 39 of Collector's Guide to Air Rifles By Hiller). The top of the barrel is stamped ‘BSA Guns Ltd England’ together with ‘.22 Cal’ and BSA piled arms logo. The barrel's bore is clean with crisp rifling and it cocks and fires as it should with a strong spring action. The price includes UK delivery. 1930's Pre-War German Militia .177 Calibre, Break Action Air Rifle Sn 15287 - 15287
This good .177 calibre German Militia air rifle was made a variety of German manufacturer's in the 1930's on the run up to WW2. It has all original metal with even patina & woodwork which has just the knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use. This air rifle has no manufacturer or model marks but has a distinctive breech locking catch which is similar to the one used on the British Greener air rifle. The weapon fires with a strong spring action. It has a 19 ½” barrel and measures 43” overall length. The wood stock with rubber embossed BSA logo recoil pad and metal work are in excellent undamaged condition. The top of the air chamber is correctly marked with the ‘B.S.A. This is a B.S.A Cadet .177 Calibre Air Rifle. It has a ‘B’ prefix serial number ‘B67754’ which dates it to between 1946-1949 (see Page 34 of Hiller’s Book 'The Collectors Guide to Air Rifles'). The woodwork is undamaged undamaged condition and the metal retains some of its original finish. It has a 15" clean rifled barrel and measures 37 ½” overall.
