C1957 Webley Mk III .22 Air Rifle. AI 701. - AI 701
The Webley Mk III was introduced in 1947 and was of a completely different design to the Mk II Service. In some ways it was a step backwards. The fixed-barrel, underlever, tap-loading configuration was very similar to that of pre-war BSAs; with design origins back to 1905, but with an extended stock to provide a wooden for-end. The Mk III initially included a sophisticated double-pull trigger, as per the Diana 45, but this proved fragile and only about 2,500 were made before it was replaced by a simplified, more robust mechanism. Webley, for reasons best known to itself, moved the loading tap lever to the right-hand side of the action for the Mk III. The blueing on the barrel and action is in good condition. It does have some marks mainly to the Rear of the cylinder and cocking lever where the blueing has worn but overall it is in good order. The stock is in generally good order, possibly birch *there is indentation on the pistol grip/stock grip and the previous owners initials on the butt*. It does feature a very pleasing striped grain. The serial number is ‘24964’ which dates the rifle in between 1957 & 1961 (See page 243 of Dennis Hillers ‘A Collectors Guide to Air Rifles’. The rifle cocks, loads and fires with a nice tight action. The price includes UK delivery. C1922 BSA Standard Model 2 .22 Underlever Air Rifle with ‘S’ prefix. AI 907. - AI 907
The serial No S16248 dates this rifle to circa: 1922. When mention is made of the BSA Standard No1 and Standard No2 spring to mind., but it should be remembered that BSA referred to their full length .177 and .22 air rifles as the standard. This example is in fine condition with some blueing missing to expose the nice metalwork. It has the usual BSA wording to the metalwork. *RESERVED. RESERVED. Rare/Mint* Sterling HR-81 .22 Air Rifle. AI 903. - AI 903
The HR-81 was an air rifle manufactured by Dagenham based, small arms manufacturer, Sterling Armaments Company. Sterling, known for their production of submachine guns, entered the air rifle market in 1982 with their revolutionary HR81 air rifle. Designed by Roy Hutchinson (whose initials reversed gave the rifle its name) along with Peter Hart and Peter Moon, the rifle was cocked with an under-barrel lever and loaded via an unusual (at the time) bolt action breech. The breech design, whilst unusual was also the rifle’s main design fault as it restricted the rifle’s power. It was produced and finished to a very high standard using traditional production methods and avoided the use of plastics or synthetic parts. Available only in .22, it was one of the more expensive air rifles available on the market at the time. In 1988 the rights to the designs were purchased by Benjamin-Sheridan[ and the HR-81 and HR-83 then enjoyed limited production in the USA.[The American model differed from the UK model in that the rearsight, which was moved rearwards to become a removable part, was mounted on the scope rail, and the stock had a noticeably different shape. These versions were available in .177, .22 and .20 calibres. Production ceased in 1994 when Benjamin-Sheridan was bought out by Crosman. See page 513 Blue Book of Airguns by Beeman & Allen. This UK model is in near mint condition. The stock and butt rubber are totally unmarked. The single stage trigger works as it should. The metalwork has a few very minor rub marks which you would expect for its age. The serial number is ‘1732’ which is an early one from the 1980’s. The rifle cocks, loads and fires with a nice tight action. The price includes UK delivery.
