Sheridan Products Incorporated was formed to produce Pneumatic Air Rifles with production beginning in March 1947. The name Sheridan was reputedly in honour of the Civil War's General Philip Sheridan. Sheridan made their ‘C Series’ (Blue Streak) pneumatic air rifles from 1949 to 1976 when the Company was bought by the Benjamin Air Rifle company. Benjamin continued to make Sheridan Model C air rifles in 1977. The air rifles are well constructed Airguns using quality materials. Benjamin Air Rifle Company continued producing Series C's until 1992 when the company was purchased by competitor Crosman Corporation. Sheridan ‘C Series’ air rifles are scarce to find in the UK. Vintage Racine-made models are highly sought after by collectors. This a near mint Sheridan Racine C Series air rifle. It has all of its original blue finish and the woodwork is undamaged . The rifle is 37” overall length and has a blade fore sight & adjustable rear sight. The frame and barrel are stamped with Sheridan Racine markings, together with ‘C Series’ designation 5mm (.20 calibre) detail and serial number ‘551134’. It is bolt action loading and has the correct safety catch feature. The hinged fore stock is pumped repeatedly to fully charge the rifle for a single shot. Sheridan Products Incorporated was formed to produce Pneumatic Air Rifles with production beginning in March 1947. Sheridan made their Model C (Streak) pneumatic air rifles from 1949 to 1976 when the Company was bought by the Benjamin Air Rifle company. Benjamin continued to make Sheridan Model C air rifles re-naming them the ‘C Series’ in 1977. The Benjamin Sheridan C9A is a multi-pump pneumatic air rifle produced primarily in the 1990s and early 2000s after Crosman acquired Benjamin Sheridan in 1992. It is the modern iteration of the classic Sheridan Blue Streak, chambered in the distinct .20 calibre (5mm). Sheridan / Benjamin ‘C9A Series’ air rifles are scarce to find in the UK. This a near mint C9A Series air rifle. It has all of its original blue finish and the woodwork is excellent & undamaged. With Bushnell 1.5x- 4x Banner Telescopic Sight The rifle is 37” overall length and has a blade fore sight & adjustable rear sight. 1905-1914 BSA Lincoln Jeffries Patent Improved Model D .177 Calibre Pistol Grip Stock Variant Underlever Air Rifle With Correct ‘Bayonet’ Catch Lever. Sn 23457 - 23457
This is an excellent original BSA Improved Model D Air Rifle. These rifles were made with both straight hand and pistol grip stocks and in different variations between 1905 and 1914 (see page 50 of the book of the BSA air rifle by John Milewski). This example has its original undamaged pistol grip stock with correct chequered panels on the grip. The stock has a steel butt plate and the shoulder stock is impressed with crisp BSA’s trademark. The ‘Bayonet’ catch cocking arm is marked with Lincoln Jeffries patent information (illustrated). It has a 19 ½” rifled barrel and measures 43 ½” overall. It has a blade foresight and adjustable dial rear sight. The metal work has its original blue finish in very good condition. The air cylinder has crisp BSA Improved Model D information (illustrated). The loading port tap has faint patent information (illustrated). The left side of the trigger block bears the serial number 41692. CASED Post 1972 Feinwerkbau (FWB) Model 300S Match .177 Calibre Side Lever Target Air Rifle With FWB Sight Arrangement, Stand & Replacement Rubber Eyecups. Sn 23456 - 23456
The German manufacturer Feinwerkbau (FWB) introduced the Model 300S also known as the 300S Match Air Rifle in 1972 (see page 114 of the Air Gun Book By Walter). This is an excellent example. It has a 20" barrel with clean crisp rifling and measures 43 ½” overall. It has a beautiful contoured stock with attractive grain and stippled pistol grip. The metal work retains all of its original blueing. It has a shrouded target foresight and correct weighted barrel. It has an adjustable FWB sight with spare eye cups (one lens yellow shade colour), adjustable recoil pad and adjustable trigger. The underside of the stock has a steel rail for removable target shooting stand which is present. The left side of the cylinder is crisply marked with manufacturer, model and calibre detail together with serial number '146714' and the top of the cylinder with the FWB Trademark. The optics of the sight arrangement are excellent. The rifle's side lever cocking and firing actions work correctly with a powerful spring action. The rifle comes with its composite transit case with hinged lid, carry handles, foam lining & clasp fasteners. The exterior of the has several old competition / club related stickers applied and one edge has an small, stable tape repair. 1954 - 1968 Crosman USA Model 140 Single Shot .22 Calibre Pneumatic Pump Action Air Rifle With Weaver USA Model 244 Telescopic Sight. Sn 23455 - 23455
The Crosman 140 is a vintage single-shot, bolt-action, multi-pump pneumatic .22 calibre air rifle produced between 1954 and 1968, a desirable collector's item for plinking and light pest control. This example is in excellent condition. The rifle is Pneumatic Pump Action. The air chamber is charged by multiple strokes of the underlever pump action and a pellet loaded into the barrel at the breach which has a revolving breach cover. The breach cover has maker and model detail (illustrated). The power of the air rifle is increased by the number of pumps. It has a 20” barrel and is 35 ½” overall length. The rifle works as it should & has all of its original blue finish & its wood work is in excellent undamaged condition. **RARE** Pre WW1 Junior Or Boy’s Pattern 1913-1914 BSA .177 Calibre Underlever Air Rifle With Pistol Grip Stock & ‘S’ Prefix Serial Number. Sn 23421 - 23421
This is a rare to find pre WW1 BSA Junior Or Boy’s Pattern Air Rifle. These rifles along with Pre war Standard models were only made on a short production run between 1913 & 1914 replacing the improved Model D in 1913. Production ended in 1914 as BSA’s machinery was understandably required for war work. The Standard Pattern was re-introduced in 1919 (see Chapter 6 of The Book Of The BSA Air Rifle by Milewski who describes pre WW1 rifles as scarce). Our example has the correct Pre WW1 variant features I.e. 1910 sear safety patent ‘Pat-30338-10’ above the ‘S’ prefix serial number S80639 on the trigger block, No cylinder markings, no BSA logo panels within the wrist chequering & BSA’s patents on the underside of the correct cocking lever with correct side lever catch (in 1912 BSA acquired Lincoln Jeffries Patents and the BSA name replaced Lincoln Jeffries). A period BSA advertising poster illustrated on page 61 of Milewski’s book illustrates the 1914 range of BSA air rifles including a pistol grip stock Junior Or Boy’s Pattern the same as ours. It has a 15 ½” rifled barrel the underside numbered ‘326’ (just over 37 ½” overall), a pinched blade foresight and period 2 leaf rear sights. The metal work has even patina. It has a steel butt plate. The breech is marked ‘Load’ and has BSA’s pyled arms trademark. The underside of the stock is impressed 13 ¼” (stock length). The rifle loads, cocks & fires correctly. **RARE**1905-1906 ‘The BSA Air Rifle’ Pistol Grip Stock Variant In .177 Calibre, Underlever With 1st Type Bayonet Catch Lever (no protective side fences). Sn 23420 - 23420
This is a very good, rare to find ‘The BSA Air Rifle’ (see Chapter 2, Pages 34 – 39 of The Book Of BSA Air Rifles 1905-1939 by Milewski). These rifles were only made between 1905 & 1906 before introduction of The improved BSA air rifle in 1906. These rifles were made with both straight hand and pistol grip stocks. This example of the ‘The BSA Air Rifle’ has its original wood stock with pistol grip stock and correct chequered panels. The stock is correctly impressed with BSA’s pyled arms Trade mark. It has a steel butt plate, a 19 ½” barrel and measures 43 ½” overall. It has a blade fore sight and adjustable dial rear sight. The metal work has original blue finish. The loading port is marked ‘Load’ and has BSA’s pyled arms trademark. The 1st type bayonet cocking lever has correctly has no protective side fences and the lever end is slightly curved downwards, a feature found on these rifles (the author on page 35 of his book comments “it seems BSA’s left the factory with levers set at various angles” and illustrates a lever end similar to ours. The top of the cylinder has no markings. The rifle is serial number ‘6270’ which is stamped on the trigger block & is in the serial number range of BSA serial numbers issued between 1905-1908 i.e 5830-7829 (see page 27 of Milewski’s book). This is a rare to find pre WW1 BSA Standard Pattern Air Rifle. These rifles were only made on a short production run between 1913 & 1914 replacing the improved Model D in 1913. Production ended in 1914 as BSA’s machinery was understandably required for war work. The Standard Pattern was re-introduced in 1919 (see Chapter 6 of The Book Of The BSA Air Rifle by Milewski who describes pre WW1 Standard rifles as scarce). **MINT BORE**Mid 1800's - Early 1900's German Oscar Will, Venuswaffenwerk ‘Toro’ .22 Calibre Smooth Bore, Bugelspanner (German: Trigger Guard Cocker) Break Barrel Gallery Air Rifle. Sn 23404 - 23404
The German Bugelspanner Target Air Rifle was produced by Oscar Will Venuswaffenwerk, Zella St, Blasii, Germany from the mid 1800's to early 1900's (see page 254 of A Collectors Guide To Air Rifles by Hiller). The rifles were often marketed as ‘Original’ or as in our case ‘Toro’. This is an excellent .22 Calibre smoothbore variant popular for use at Fairground Galleries to fire darts at targets. It is 42 ¼” in length with a 20 ½” octagonal barrel. The smooth bore of the barrel is near mint clean & bright. It has a side lever catch that releases the barrel for loading and cocking is achieved by underlever action of the long trigger guard with arm. It has fixed open fore and rear sights. The metal frame & barrel are blued. The cylinder is marked ‘Toro’. There are no other maker marks or serial numbers visible externally. The wood stock has chequered panels at the wrist. One side of the stock above the trigger guard is impressed ‘NE 10’ possibly a gun club or shooting gallery weapon number. The loading and firing action work as they should. **VERY RARE**Pre WW2 Era Czech VZ 35 Bolt Action Military Training Air Rifle 4.5mm Ball Bearing Calibre With 10 BB Hopper Type Magazine & Czech Model 1924 Bayonet & Scabbard. Sn 23403 - 23403
The VZ35 was made by the Czech State Arsenal in Brno before World War II. The designation VZ 35 means model 1935, or something to that effect. This is a rare example in excellent condition. It has the correct winged foresight and adjustable rear sight (the later post war VZ 47 had a shrouded fore sight). The cylinder is crisply marked by the manufacturer (illustrated) together with number '22735'. The gravity feed, hopper magazine located on top of the cylinder has the correct hinged lid (the later V 47 had a steel sliding cover) and holds up to 10 BB's. The hopper frame is marked ‘J Rampant Lion 37’ (possible export to Israel in 1937 see bayonet markings below). The rifle's original wood furniture is undamaged and fitted with a steel butt plate, bayonet bar, cleaning rod & correct 2 sets of sling swivels. The weapon's bolt action cocking mechanism functions crisply with a strong spring action. The rifle is 43” overall length & comes with an original Czech M1924 Bayonet & Scabbard. These bayonets were adopted by Czech Armed forces in 1924 to fit Mauser type rifles. The bayonet has a clean parkerised 11 ¾” blade with fullers. The wood grips are secured by screw bolts. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks on the bayonet’s blade but the pommel top is marked ‘VA 1218’ above ‘tgf’. The scabbard is blued steel and its frog stud is stamped with CZ roundel ‘E3 48’ & Rampant Lion mark (denoting post war manufacture in 1948 for export to Israel, see ‘An Illustrated History Of Bayonets’ By Brayley pages 52-54).
