British Officers WW1 1915 Hallmarked Quality Silver Folding Cigarette Case By A and J Zimmerman - MISC 883. - MISC 883 This is a quality good sized English Sterling silver British officers WW1 folding silver cigarette case made by A and J Zimmerman. The case measures 3 ½ inches square and is curved in shape. The case is kept closed by a spring strap and there are two elastic straps to keep the cigarettes secure when the case is carried and opened. The cigarette case has a vertical striped pattern engraved on the front and rear of the case together with a monogram J P McV engraved in the cartouche. The case weighs 4.32 ounces and has a gilt finish to the inside. The case is hallmarked sterling silver to A and J Zimmerman for the years 1915 to 1916. The price includes U.K. delivery. MINT, Early WW2 1940 British WD Military Barometer / Altimeter By Reynolds, Son & Wardale London With Original WW2 1939 Dated Leather Case By F.Ltd. Sn 14260 - 14260 This is an original cased early WW2 British Military Barometer / Altimeter in near mint fully functioning condition. The instrument is brass cased which is stamped on the rear with the British War Department 'Broad Arrow'. Also on the rear is a slot headed screw head for adjusting the instrument. The case is mounted with a lanyard ring. The instrument has a glazed face. The white card face and rotating metal pointer arm are in excellent condition. The face is marked on the inside of the scale in inches from 24-31 and around the outside in atmospheric pressure from 0-7000 feet. In the centre it has "Compensated" (compensated for temperature changes) and manufacturer detail ‘T.A. Reynolds, Son & Wardale Ltd London B472’ and dated ‘1940’. The barometer/altimeter comes in a fitted leather case which is in excellent condition with original red felt lining. The case has its original leather strap with buckle to secure the lid. A dramatic pair of hollow cast spelter figures made C 1870 depicting Wagnerian tradition Teutonic Warriors on horseback in combat poses armed with spears. The figures are mounted on ebonised wood plinths. Each figure measures approx. 13” Height x 9” Length x 4 ½” Width including their bases. The figures have some minor secure repairs. **RARE**Victorian Era Wilkinson Pall Mall (London) Brass & Iron Black Powder Gamekeeper's Alarm Mine Mounted For Display On Wood Plinth. Sn 18916 - 18916 This Victorian era Gamekeeper's alarm mine was used to warn Gamekeepers of the presence of Poachers on Estates or outbuildings. Several variants were available in the period. This is a rare mine with an unusual action. The mine measures 10 ½”x 3 ½”x 3”. It has a heavy external brass hammer marked on both sides by the famous English manufacturer ‘Wilkinson Pall Mall’. To arm the mine, the hammer is pulled back and a hinged plate locks the hammer back. The hammer is locked in place by an iron safety pin secured to the plate by an iron link chain. The pin passes through a hole in the plate and iron base of the device when the plate is positioned so a protrusion in one end of the plate prevents the hammer from moving forward. This allows the arm to be safely loaded for firing. We cannot find any contemporary book or internet reference regarding the operation of this type of mine but believe it would have been armed with a small black powder charge connected to a short piece of Bickford detonator fuse cord which would have a percussion cap on the tip (the charge may have consisted of a blank shotgun cartridge, percussion cap removed and attached to Bickford cord inserted into the base of the cartridge). The charge or adapted shotgun cartridge would sit on the hollow section on the front of the iron base. The fuse cord would pass over the ‘v’ notch plates & the percussion cap seated in the ‘pan’. The bar has 2 holes to allow trip wires to be tied to it. The wire would then be passed across a path or place where trespassers or poachers would likely be found entering or wandering on Property or Estates. When positioned the safety pin would be removed. When activated the trip wire would release the plate causing the hammer to fall and fire the percussion cap which in turn detonated the charge via the fuse cord. When fired the blast would warn gamekeeper's of the presence of poachers. The iron base has 4 screw holes for securing to a post or tree. The hammer action on our example is strong and the safety pin works as it should. At some point in its life the gun has been screw mounted to a varnished wood plinth with 4 brass ball feet. The plinth measures 12”x4”x1”. This piece would make a superb desk ornament conversation piece and is worthy of further research. The price includes UK delivery. Transit Crated, British Home Office WW2 Era & 1962 Cold War Secomak Type 447 Portable Hand Operated Syren (Siren) By Service Electric Co Ltd Stanmore Middlesex & Tubular Stand With Original Instructions. Sn 18420. - 18420 An original WW2 era and cold war Secomak hand operated Portable Air Raid Siren with tubular metal stand, Type 447. This was produced by Service Electric Co. Ltd. Stanmore, Middlesex. This hand-operated siren (sometimes spelt 'syren') was intended for large or remote establishments such as R.A.F. airfields and large factories where the public air raid warning may not have reached. The siren consists of a simple bladed drum rotated through the use of the handle. The blades are angled so that air is drawn in through the holes in the ‘voice box’ casing, and forced out the side to produce a howling tone. In order to produce the fluctuating 'Action Warning' signal, the user let go of the handle and let the siren slow down before cranking up again to reach the high note. There appears to be very little documentation charting the history of the Type 447, but it would seem to originate in the late 1930's.This superb air raid siren, complete with stand is in excellent original condition. The siren is in perfect working order. The grey painted finish is in excellent condition. The removable steel arm with wood handle is undamaged. The siren has a metal grill over the rotating blades. This siren is very loud. It is designed to be unclamped and turned upside down within the stand for storage. The stand is made from tubular steel. The siren stands 33 ½” high overall when mounted on the stand. The siren is contained in its original wooden transit case with hinged lid. The lid secures to the frame of the crate by a fixed screw bolt with removable nut. The case fits the crate snugly. WW1 French E.Richer Editeur Paris Depose Trench Art Mantelpiece or Desk Clock Featuring A Model 1914 Hotchkiss Machine Gun Emplacement. Sn 19179 - 19179 This is an attractive original pot metal trench art clock. The fully working clock with brass rimmed 2” glazed face is in working order and has its original winder. The clock is bolted into a well formed gilt finished pot metal trench combat scene depicting a seated French infantry soldier in typical WW1 uniform operating a French Model 1914 Hotchkiss Machine Gun on tripod. The clock mounted in is Trench scene measures 9 ¼” length x 4 ¾” height x 2” width. The base is hollow. The rear rim of the base has cast French lettering ‘E.Richer Editeur Paris Depose’ (Manufacturer or retailer). The clock and scene have no damage and retains most of its original gilt finish. Victorian Era Gentleman’s Tropical Palm Wood Walking Stick with Animated Hand Carved Snake Device 4 Piece Marine Ivory Handle. Sn 17117 - 17117 This is an attractive Victorian Era Gentleman’s Walking Stick. It has an undamaged, curved, 4 Piece Marine Ivory Handle with hand carved snake device. The snake curling around the handle has delicately carved individual scales and inlaid black ebony eyes. The mid-section of the handle twists animating the snake to give the appearance of the snake tightening its grip on the hilt. The walking stick measures 38” overall. A Mounted Wheel Spoke Off a WWI 13 Pounder Field Gun From The Kings Troop R.H.A. (Royal Horse Artillery). MISC 905 - MISC 905 This is an original wheel spoke from a WWI mounted on a hardwood base with red baize and a brass coloured plaque reading; ‘A SPOKE OFF A 13 POUNDER GUN BELONGING TO THE KINGS TROOP RHA 1989’. The Ordnance QF 13-pounder (quick-firing) field gun was the standard equipment of the British and Canadian Royal Horse Artillery at the outbreak of World War I. he QF 13-pounder was developed as a response to combat experience gained in the Boer War and entered service in 1904, replacing the Ehrhard QF 15-pounder and BL 12-pounder 6 cwt. It was intended as a rapid-firing and highly-mobile, yet reasonably powerful, field gun for Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) batteries supporting Cavalry brigades, and was expected to be engaged in mobile open warfare. It was developed in parallel with the QF 18-pounder used by Royal Field Artillery. The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, is a ceremonial unit of the British Army, quartered at Woolwich. It is a mounted unit and all of its soldiers are trained to care for and drive teams of six horses, each team pulling a First World War-era QF 13-pounder gun; six teams are used in the unit's Musical Drive. The Troop's duties include firing salutes on royal and state occasions, participation in parades, and the duties of the King's Life Guard at Horse Guards for one month each year. The unit provides the gun carriage and team of black horses for state funerals. The unit is most often seen providing gun salutes on state occasions in Hyde Park, and Green Park. Original WWI 1908 Pattern Small Pack. MISC 903. - MISC 903 The word haversack is an adaptation of the German Hafersack and also the Dutch haverzak meaning "oat sack", (which more properly describes a small cloth bag on a strap worn over one shoulder and originally referred to the bag of oats carried as horse fodder). The term was adopted by both the English and French (as havresac) cavalry in the 17th century. Only the British had adopted webbing load carrying equipment in 1908 and this consisted of a wide belt, left and right ammunition pouches which held seventy-five rounds each, left and right braces, a bayonet frog (leather sheath) and attachment for the entrenching tool handle, an entrenching tool head in web cover, water bottle carrier, small haversack and large pack. A mess tin inside a khaki cloth cover was worn attached to one of the packs. Inside the haversack were personal items, knife and when on Active Service, unused portions of the daily ration. This small pack is marked inside the flap ‘C.R.L.M’ with a war department arrow above ‘AA 1018’ and hand written ‘J EVANS’. The pack is in overall good condition with use related stains. 1934 Patent English Dunhill (London) Tinder Petrol Table Lighter Pistol For Tinder, Cigarettes & Cigars. Sn 21223 - 21223 Dunhill is a Westminster, London-based luxurious cigarette brand owned and manufactured by Dunhill and British American Tobacco. The brand name commemorates the English tobacconist, entrepreneur and inventor Alfred Dunhill. This is a Vintage Dunhill (Cigarette manufacturing Company) Flintlock Tinder Pistol table lighter made using brass & steel with a walnut handle. The Dunhill makers mark has been embossed onto the brass petrol tank 'Dunhill Tinder Pistol Made In England PAT 19273/34 (1934) REGD No. 794093’ The lighter operates by pulling the trigger opens the top plate & creates a spark lighting a wick. The lighter is in fully working order creating a strong spark (the tank is without petrol & will be delivered empty). The ‘pistol’ measures 5 ¾” overall length and stands 4” tall.
