Vintage 100 Cartridge Box Of Eley-Kynoch PEGAMOID 16 Bore EC Purdey Loading Number 6 Shot, Centre Fire Waterproof Shotgun Cartridges. - O 2036
Kynoch was established in Witton in Birmingham in 1862 by Scottish entrepreneur George Kynoch when he opened a percussion cap factory in Witton.[1] In 1895 he built an explosives factory east of Shell Haven Creek, Essex (now known as Coryton). This opened in 1897, with an estate for employees called Kynochtown. The company produced cordite, guncotton, gunpowder, and cartridges. After World War I many of the UK ammunition and explosives manufacturers were brought together under Nobel Explosives to become Nobel Industries, which was a founding element of Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd (ICI) in 1926 This is a vintage 100 round cardboard box of 16 bore, centre fire 6 shot cartridges with the Purdey loading using EC propellant. E.C. stood for the Explosives Company of Stowmarket who introduced a smokeless powder in 1882. The cartridge cases are headstamped ELEY-KYNOCH 16 ICI monogram 16 (16 bore). The white top wad has printed on it E.C. (Explosives Company of Stowmarket) PURDEY LOADING 6 (shot size). DEACTIVATED INERT. WW2, 1941 Dated 7.92mm (7.92 x 94) Panzerbuchse 38 & 39 (PzB 38 & PzB 39) Tungsten Cored, AP/T (Armour Piercing Tracer) Round. - O 1985
DEACTIVATED INERT. This is an unfired WW2, 1941 dated, German 7.92mm (7.92 x 94) Panzerbuchse 38 & 39 (PzB 38 & PzB 39) AP/T (Armour Piercing Tracer) round which was developed by Gustloff Werke prior to the start of the Second World War. The gun was a single shot weapon and gave the infantry an anti-tank capability in the field. The cartridge is similar to the 13mm T Gewehr which has been necked down from 13mm to 7.92mm with a rimless case. Due to the high velocities involved, the core of the projectile had a tungsten core. This round has received damage to the cartridge case sometime in its service and appears to have been struck by a bullet similar to a .303 thus igniting the propellant. The PzB39 although a single shot weapon, the rounds for the anti-tank gun were carried in a magazine next to the breech ready to use. This round has a brass cartridge case which is headstamped aux 36d 41 (1941 date) Waffenampt 109. The round has an unstruck brass percussion primer with a red annulus which indicates a tungsten core to the steel jacketed projectile which is still crimped into the cartridge case. See Small Arms, Artillery and Special Weapons of the Third Reich, an Encyclopedic Survey by Terry Gander and Peter Chamberlain, pages 100 – 102. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert round in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 1985
