The bullets have a copper jacket. The stripper clips are of steel. INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an original British unfired Martini Henry short chamber (11.43 x 59R) Zulu wars era 6coiled brass mark 3 round for the Martini Henry rifle adopted by the British army in 1874 and used until 1886. This is the pattern of round that would have been used in the Zulu wars. The round consists of an iron disc for the base/rim with a hole punched in the centre for the primer. The case was made of two turns of .004 inch brass with a 0.5 inch overlap, placed within the coil was a strengthening strip of .004 inch brass and to ensure that this was correctly in place a small "sight hole" was punched in the outer coil as a visual. This mark 3 cartridge has an inspection hole in the side of the cartridge case to reveal an inner reinforcing strip and would have been loaded with 85 grains of black powder. The case is crimped onto a 480 grain paper patched lead bullet. The buff cardboard box is stapled and has a green sealing label round the packet which has 50 Cartuchos para Pistola automatic 9 mm Parabellum printed on the top and Fabrica de Cartuchos Hirte rg on one end.
