Complete, Falklands War Era, Inert Full Weight British WD & NATO Marked Drill Shorts Blowpipe (man-portable surface-to-air missile tube) With High Impact Carry Case & 1976 Dated Transit Case. - O 1003 INERT DEACTIVATED. The Shorts Blowpipe is a man-portable surface-to-air missile that was in use with the British Army and Royal Marines from 1975. It was superseded by an interim design, Javelin, and later the Starstreak. The missile would be shipped as a single round in a storage cylinder/firing tube. The aiming unit would be clipped to the launch tube and fired from the operator's shoulder. To reduce the overall size of the container, the rear fins of the missile were stored in the larger diameter cylinder at the front of the tube (this also contained the Yagi antenna for transmitting guidance signals). During firing, the fins slipped onto the rear of the missile as it flies through and are held there by heat-activated adhesive tapes. This gives the launch container a unique shape, seemingly oversized at the front and extremely thin at the rear. Blowpipe were used by both sides during the Falklands War in 1982, with the targets being fast flying aircraft, flying low and using the ground to hide their approach. Blowpipe missiles were also used in the Afghanistan and Gulf War conflicts. This is a superb complete inert, purpose made, WD weighted drill Blowpipe firing tube, with carry and transit cases. The drill Blowpipe tube is weighted to replicate the weight of the live version when loaded with missile and cable. This would allow soldiers the opportunity to train in carrying a full size and weight inert version of the weapon and aiming (when guidance system attached). The tube is marked ‘C0036 DRILL ‘ and is complete with its original green high impact plastic carry case with webbing shoulder and retaining straps and both are contained in its original green high impact transit case with removable lid and clasp fasteners. The transit case and carry case are profusely marked with stencilled British WD marks and NATO stores codes. A WD plate on the transit case is dated ‘1976 ‘ (illustrated inset in image 2 together with an image of a blowpipe missile in use in the field). The Blowpipe is accompanied by an MOD certificate dated 1988 certifying that the Blowpipe is inert/ free from explosives. The blowpipe in its transit case measures 61”x12 ½”x 14”. INERT. British, 40mm Bofors QF 40 mm Naval Mark I Brass & Steel Weighted Drill Round (40 x 311R) for the Bofors L/60 Anti-Aircraft Gun. - O 1781 INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a scarce British Naval mark 1 brass and steel weighted drill round for the 40mm British Bofors QF 40 mm Mark I gun (40 x 311R). The gun was developed by AB Bofors of Sweden and the 40mm version was adopted by the British just prior to the start of WW2. This is an early British made drill round for the British Bofors gun. The round is made out of a turned brass body with a steel nose and base attached and riveted through to secure them. This round replaced the wood and brass mark 1 round which was not found to be durable in service due to the harsh action of the Bofors gun. The round is weighted internally to resemble the complete round. This profile enabled the round to be fed into the action when gun drill was carried out. This drill round is headstamped 40 M/M N1 (Naval mark 1) DRILL a crowfoot DIFCO 1953 (1953 date). The steel base has a black hard rubber insert to protect the firing pin during practice. The Bofors gun had a harsh action and the ammunition had to be made accordingly. Sn - 20079 INERT DEACTIVATED. German WW2, 1937 Dated 3.7cm PAK 36 (37x250) APHE (Armour Piercing High Explosive/ Trace) round with the rare early two piece brass and steel cartridge case. The brass and steel cartridge case consists of a brass body and a steel base which is headstamped P130 22 37 (1937 date) 6331-1/67 waffenampt 297. The base of the cartridge also has 4 equally spaced 4mm diameter holes. The steel base has a screw in C/13nA percussion primer which is stamped C/13nA 27/38 RHS 422. The fired projectile is screwed for a percussion primer and has a copper driving band. The base of the projectile is stamped 803 I DL G near the circumference. Sn - 20078 INERT DEACTIVATED. German WW2, 1937 Dated 3.7cm PAK 36 (37x250) APHE (Armour Piercing High Explosive/ Trace) round with the rare early two piece brass and steel cartridge case. The brass and steel cartridge case consists of a brass body and a steel base which is headstamped P90 43 1937 (1937 date) 633-1/67 waffenampt 244. The base of the cartridge also has 4 equally spaced 4mm diameter holes. The steel base is screwed for a C/23 percussion primer. The cartridge case retains some of the original loading stencilling data on the side 179g 18602.2 Bd .38/1 C 89 R. The unfired projectile has a copper driving band retains most of its original black painted finish and is stencilled in red round its circumference 23 374 Dbo. 7.38 (July 1938 date) waffenampt. INERT. British 1986 Dated 76mm ARMDC (76.2x230R) L23A1, HE (High Explosive) Weighted DRILL Round For The Scorpion light Tank and Saladin Armoured Car. - O 1779 INERT. This is an original British 1986 dated 76mm ARMDC (76.2x230R) L23 A1 HE (High Explosive) weighted DRILL round for the British 76mm ARMDC gun fitted to the Saladin 6 wheeled armoured car that replaced the AEC armoured car in 1958 and the later Scorpion Tank introduced in 1973. The 76mm gun used in these vehicles is the Royal Ordnance Factories L23A1 low velocity gun that fired HE (high explosive), HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) an anti-armour projectile, Smoke and a Canister (a projectile filled with shot pellets used for anti-personal use) rounds. This drill round will have originally been made for the Saladin armoured car and resembles the high explosive round including its weight and consists of a steel base with an alloy mid body, a steel upper part and a SX 134A brass nose fuse plug. The round is headstamped 76MM ARMD C RLB (Royal Laboratories) 1986 (1986 manufacture date) DRILL and has a black rubber firing pin protector fitted. The alloy lower part of the round is engraved DRILL while the upper part retains its original white stencil DRILL. The brass nose plug representing the nose fuse is stamped SX 134A PLUG BN (R.O.F. INERT. Rare. British WW2 1940 40mm Bofors QF 40 mm Mark I Wood & Brass Drill Round (40 x 311R) for the Bofors L/60 Anti-Aircraft Gun. - O 1775 INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an early British WW2, 1940 dated mark 1 wood and brass drill round for the 40mm British Bofors QF 40 mm Mark I gun (40 x 311R). The gun was developed by AB Bofors of Sweden and the 40mm version was adopted by the British just prior to the start of WW2. This is an early British made drill round for the British Bofors gun. The round is made out of a turned brass base resembling the bottom of a Bofors case 1 ½ inches long and a brass top 4 ½ inches long. The wooden profile between the two brass ends appears to be ash, a hardwood. The round is weighted internally to resemble the complete round. This profile enabled the round to be fed into the action when gun drill was carried out. This drill round is headstamped 40 M/M GUN RL (Royal Laboratories) 8/40 (August 1940 date) and several other stampings. The screw in primer would have originally had a hard rubber insert to protect the firing pin during practice. The Bofors gun had a harsh action and the ammunition had to be made accordingly. This wood and brass drill round is a rare survivor from the first batch of British drill rounds, which were soon changed to made them more durable, utilising brass and steel instead of brass and wood. INERT DEACTIVATED. Very Rare, WW2, 1942 Dated British DRILL 25 Pounder Cartridge Case (88 x 292R), Leather Drill Charge Bags & Cap. - O 1772 INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a very rare British 25 Pounder (88 x 292R), DRILL cartridge case, complete with 3 leather incremental charge bags and the sealing cap. This gun, introduced in 1935 was the Mk 1 and was called the '18/25 Pr.' It consisted of a 25 Pr. barrel and breach in a modified jacket of an 18 Pr. as a 'loose liner'. It was original mounted on the 18 Pr. gun carriage and with the introduction of the 25 pr Gun Mk 2, mounted on the Carriage 25-pr Mark ll in 1940 became the standard 25 Pr. Gun in the British army. This cartridge case is headstamped 25 Pr. Mk ll DRILL 1942 struck out and numerous other stampings. There are 3 half holes drilled into the base of the brass cartridge case. The case is fitted with its correct and rare black painted No 1 lll DRILL primer stamped SH&S struck out and 6.42 (June 1942 date). The case is closed by a leather closure disc complete with its leather handle. Inside the cartridge case are the three DRILL sewn leather representing charge bags. Charge one is of red leather and is stamped I over B&Co. RL over 25 Pr over 6oz. 5DR over DRILL. Charge two is of tan leather and is stamped I over B&Co over 25Pr. over 7oz. 12DR over DRILL . Charge three is of blue leather with a leather strap and is stamped I over B&Co over 25Pr. Over 13oz.3DR. over DRILL. The cartridge case case retains traces of varnish to the inside. DEACTIVATED INERT. British, Early, Quarter Sectioned 105mm (105x617R) APDS/T (Armour Piercing, Discarding Sabot/Trace) Tank Tungsten Cored Penetrator. - O 1769 DEACTIVATED INERT. This is an early British (105x617R) APDS/T (Armour Piercing, Discarding Sabot/Trace) tungsten cored penetrator from a 105mm APDS/T projectile used in the the British L7 105mm tank gun. The 105mm gun was used on the British Centurion tank and replaced the Centurions 84mm 20 pounder gun, the 105mm gun has also been used in the German Leopard and early American M1 Abrams tanks. The APDS/T (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot/Trace). This is a 105mm penetrator where the sheath has had a quarter section taken out of it to reveal the tungsten core which penetrated armour plate. The penetrator is heavy at 3.08kg and measures 18 cm in length and 6cm in diameter. The sheath has a male screw thread on the bottom to accept a tracer element. This is a nice 1943 dated unfired German WW2 5cm) (50 x 420R) Patr 39 Armour Piercing Caped, High Explosive Tracer (APC/HE/T) round for the KwK38 (Kampfwagenkanone) gun, the main armament of the Panzer lll tank and the Pak 38 (PanzerAbwehrKanone) anti-gun. The copper washed steel cartridge case retains much of its original black copper finish and has two crimping rings. The cartridge case is nicely headstamped 6360St 5cm Pak va (Kabel- u.
